Of course, because they were looking for Roderick's vault, where he hid the gauntlets! "The fault!" she cries. "Sis must be zhe fault zhat Roderick vas talkink about!" Her flash of inspiration fades as she realizes that she has no idea what the combination could be. "Ah, Scheisse," she breathes. "Roderick alsho shaid zhe map holds zhe key. Vhere ish zhe map? I wonder if pistol-whipping might require martial weapon proficiency? Without it, characters would add a penalty to their attack roll, which seems appropriate for characters like Myrandya that are not melee fighters at all. Another possibility might be to treat the butt as an improvised weapon, though that would give the penalty to everyone who doesn't have the Catch Off-Guard feat.

Then she sighs and draws her rifle, and checks that it is loaded. If bullets are already flying, she reasons, she may have to fire a round or two herself and it would be best to be ready. She sights the largest enemy who is still armed and readies to fire at him if he should continue the attacks on her or her allies.
