About Mite of Desna
Mite spent his youth roaming the streets, picking through trash with his clan. His older brother, Rite, taught him how to sneak unnoticed, how to pick locks and how to scrap with other Goblins who tried to take what was his. And he shared the valuable art of deceiving the longshanks with fantastical stories, while robbing them blind.
During an unfortunate raid on the coliseum dump, Mite was captured and pressed into life as a gladiator. His opportunistic keepers assumed he would offer the crowd a quick and amusing death. However, due to a fortunate mix of genetics, street smarts and natural cunning, Mite turned out to be tough to kill. As his gladiatorial star rose, Mite's antics made him a crowd favorite--people came to see the blood and guts, sure, but they also came to laugh at the Goblin who made fools of the larger, slower, frailer competitors. When Mite wasn't fighting, his captors showed him off at glamorous affairs, where he would entertain powerful nobles with his stories and sleight of hand. He was all too happy to dine on the scraps they left behind at the end of the night.
Over time, Mite was given more freedom, which he eventually leveraged to escape his captors. Seriously wounded during his getaway, Mite sought refuge at the local monastery, where the Monks, mostly Dwarves, treated his injuries. Recognizing his tenacity, natural gifts and goodness--as compared to most Goblins--the Monks offered to protect Mite and to train him in exchange for a life of service to others. Though uncomfortable with the rituals and religiosity of the order, Mite was a natural fighter, especially in styles that played to his size and qualities. And he learned to be patient and purposeful...as compared to most Goblins.
Keeping his promise, Mite now spends his time working on behalf of the Pathfinder Society, sometimes breaking the law when needed to protect the vulnerable or to advance a higher cause. He occasionally returns to the monastery that changed his life. While he still deems it a bit too ritual-centered for his taste (and he's still a bit uncertain about that whole 'book' thing), he enjoys the opportunity to train and to reconnect with his teachers. To the chagrin of his monastic brothers, he does still enjoy the spotlight, entertaining crowds with stories punctuated by acrobatics and tricks. But what he values most is the chance to roam freely in search of adventure.
