I understand your frustration, and agree it's not the best writing I've seen, but I disagree with your push for someone to fix it. Only the scenario author or developers can fix it, not the GM. Sometimes we just have to say 'oops, made the wrong random choice. I guess we'll get less gold' and leave it at that.

Thank you for the explanations, GM. It sounds like part of what happened here was a few issues with the writing of the scenario being a little rough. Colin, I think you are failing to understand that not getting all the gold due to player actions is a common thing. In fact, the rewards for scenarios would put players beyond expected WBL as a way to make up for not getting full gold sometimes. The GM's choices cannot skip part of the story or reduce rewards, but that of the players can. When the dice were rolled to decide which direction to explore first, that determined that we would not get full gold. We may not like it, but that's how the scenario is written. No one complained about the adventure ending until people saw less than full gold. To change player decisions to try to get that gold would be metagaming, and is forbidden. GM, does this mean the original chronicle sheets are still correct?

'Explore, report, cooperate' is not a suicide pact. Mika will try hard to convince everyone to come with her right away, and then leave. She will protect everyone who accompanies her. Although she would gladly lay down her life to protect her companions, she will not do so just for a bit of treasure.

B3 shows on the map as explored. And just because some really experienced agents defeated some scary monsters does not mean our relatively inexperienced agents are going to be so reckless.

It is not just one room, it is two, and there is not loot there. (B4 and B5) The combat in B4 is optional, so we can't lose loot by not doing that combat. And even if we lose loot, when we know something so awful is after us, waiting for an elemental to retrieve loot would in character be very unwise.

In a sense, it doesn't matter what the GM decides. There is no loot in the rooms we did not explore. The only thing the rooms would have provided is more points for exploring. This adventure was written with the knowledge that many groups would not be able to explore that area because of being chased out, so there are not any negative consequences to that happening.

We already did defeat the 'big bad'. The GM is told to work really hard at getting the party to flee. If the party is foolish enough to ignore the warning, the result is likely to be a TPK the first time the creature who shows up acts.

Yes, that was the final fight of the adventure. The ghost minotaur was the fight that the GM was instructed to go back and run for us. The scary thing that is going to appear down below the party is supposed to flee from. Also, I don't think that by the rules we can choose to go back down (if the adventure even allows it; it may not). The adventure had ended, and so we can't go back and redo our decisions from earlier; all that could happen was to fix the GM error of not running the minotaur adventure on our way back up.

I'm going to step out of this discussion, because I'm uncomfortable being a player at the table and the VO involved in unraveling things. I've asked another PbP VO to come help us out.

That was not running out of time, that was choosing not to finish the adventure. When the GM left, most of the players stated they did not want to continue with a different GM. In that case, reduced rewards is the appropriate result. What I am dealing with in the quote above is a game not reaching the end by an event end date.

Arxoias, your post comes across as a bit more hostile than I think you meant. First, there is no such thing as a usual expectation of how often to post for play by post games. Posting expectations are what the GM declares at the beginning of the game. Many GMs choose one post per day, or one post per day except one post for the weekend, but that is in no way a standardized expectation. We (the PbP VO team) do encourage that for convention games one of these posting frequencies is a very good idea for GMs to choose, but don't require it. I'm sorry to hear that you had a GM choose to ignore the rules in such a way because a game is going long. Every convention a few games go past the end of the convention. The instructions that we as convention organizers send out are that the GM should report the game, and then finish it. There is nothing anywhere in the rules that lets a GM declare that you failed a fight and so take away rewards. Let me be clear here... NOT FINISHING IN TIME CANNOT CHANGE PLAYER REWARDS.

Once a game has started, the character can't be changed. I've seen a few GMs make a tiny bit of an exception if the first encounter just started, because they want to be fair if the asynchronous nature of PbP is why the change wasn't made earlier, but I have never seen a GM ignore campaign rules enough to allow changes to be made when we are deeply into a game. Once you start the game, unless your character is level 1, you're going to have to use retraining to change skill points, and that retraining can only be used between games.

Hi, everyone, I'm back, although it's possible I may be a little slow to post since I'm not yet at 100%. I will do my best to post daily; please bot me if I don't and am holding things up. I'll be trying to read up on everything I've missed, but that may take a while. I should still be able to post while doing that.

A humanoid fox smiles greetings at the team. A scimitar dangles at her side, and she is clearly in armor that allows for easy movement. diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17 Mika appears a bit concerned. Those who spend too much time staring at evil can sometimes be dirtied themselves...

Mika winces as the creature attacks her.
Mika uses the withdraw action to back away from the creature, go around the edge of the room, and hop down to join the rest of the party.
