Appearance and Personality:
Mihaela is a woman of average height with brown hair, violet eyes and olive skin. She carries herself with confidence and has a slightly wild look in her eyes and smells faintly of the alchemical components she handles. She favours dark clothes of sturdy but fine material where stains don't show easily. She disregards what she perceives as hindering clothing, such as dresses and skirts, and instead wears trousers and blouses, often with a waistcoat. In addition, she wears bandoliers full of vials across her chest and a crossbow on her back, having lost her longbow a few months back. Her only flash of colour is a colourful scarf she wears around her neck, which is a memento of happier times.

Her personality is at the same time a bit sad and a bit manic, with a tendency towards rash decisions when put under stress.

Background:
Born to Ustalavian parents of Varisian heritage in the Ustalavic capital of Caliphas, Mihaela and her parents, Mihael and Elena, relocated to Ardis when Mihaela was less than a year old. Her parents were both alchemists and were seeking their fortune in the city. Though at first glance she appeared normal, it wasn’t long after their move to Nex that her otherworldly heritage began to show, especially when she became impassioned or angry. At those times, her eyes began glowing red with a malicious light, marking her a tiefling. Her parents did their best to keep Mihaela calm, so as to minimise the risk of her being discovered, but all the same, as she grew older, rumours started circulating about her. As these rumours grew into outright bullying, Mihaela, who had secretly started experimenting with alchemy, retaliated by burning down the house of the most prominent bully. Mihaela was never officially charged with the crime, but her parents felt that it might be best to get her away from Ardis and sent the then twelve-year old off to live with relatives in Caliphas.

During the following twenty-odd years, she has only seen her parents and her younger brothers (Alexandru and Ioan) a few times. Mihaela’s relatives, a cousin of her mother’s and his wife, took her in, but were always slightly wary of her and encouraged her to start formal training as an alchemist. At fifteen, she was taken on as a apprentice to a local alchemist who peddled alchemical wares to the local people who needed it. In this way, a few years passed.

As he was in Caliphas for one of his many lectures, Professor Lorrimor inspired Mihaela and after she contacted him with an expressed interest in learning more from him, their voluminous correspondence concerned the local legends, customs and traditions of Ustalav, something that had always fascinated Mihaela, but which she’d never before had had any opportunity to study. Even after their intense debates ended, they still kept in touch occasionally and Mihaela often thought fondly of the old man and his keen intellect.

After finishing her apprenticeship with the old master alchemist in her early twenties, Mihaela set up her own shop in Caliphas. It was during this time that she met Tomah, her future husband. He was a moderately successful silversmith who owned a shop in the same neighbourhood. The following ten years went by in blur of happiness, that came to an abrupt end when Tomah contracted lycanthropy from an attack on the outskirts of town. He couldn’t face living with the condition and took his own life. The death sent Mihaela into a spiral of grief and madness, from which she’s never fully recovered.

During all of this, Tomah’s unwed sister Eliska, who'd lived in the same house as the married couple and continued to live there after her brother’s death, was the only one that seemed to care about Mihaela. Mihaela was grateful for the care shown by Eliska and feels that she is the only person she can fully trust, now that her husband is gone. After her husband’s demise, Mihaela’s greatest fear is lycanthropy and what it can do yo you. She doesn’t hate lycanthropes, but she pities them and fears their ability to confer their condition on others who might not have chosen to receive it.

Following Tomah’s death, Mihaela started travelling across Ustalav and experimenting extensively in her basement, with little regard for her own safety, in the hope of finding a cure for lycanthropy, so that others won’t have to experience the same anguish she has. If she during her travels were to come across the lycanthrope, a werewolf named Vladislav, who attacked her husband, so much the better. Then she could extract her revenge on the man who took her husband from her. It was when she returned home from one of these travels that she received a letter informing her of the death of Professor Lorrimor. Mihaela was both surprised and pleased to learn that she’d been invited, even requested, to attend the funeral, something she would probably have done anyway, even without an invitation. With the invitation safely tucked away in her belt pouch, Mihaela packed her alchemical extracts and started along the road towards Ravengro.

Aspects:
