Male Dwarf 1 - Wizard
Jarvis, you begin to receive an Astropathic communication - it appears to be a plea for aid. The text is as follows: _____To all available Imperial and affiliated Rogue Trader vessels within range. Being a loyal system to his most Holy Majesty the Emperor of Man, Governor Kapak requests the aid and succor from Imperial assets against the Xenos-threat known as the Ork.
Male Dwarf 1 - Wizard
"It is in the crucible of war, the seething cauldron of death and woe, that one finds glory and the measure of his fellow man." -Attributed to Lord Solar Macharius In the faraway future of the 41st Millenium, our vessel, a Universe-Class Mass Conveyor, slowly but surely passes through the sleek black of the void. We are in deep space, having just completed the drop-off of a large cargo of foodstuffs in a deal of negotiable legality, but good profit. Sorry guys, no in-game benefit... We introduce our major crew members:
Alright, now that all of that is squared away, we can begin! You can decide on the Machine Spirit Oddity, Alexander. If there's anything else you guys need to sort out, feel free to take care of it, and I will be posting a link to the main game shortly. Everyone in the crew manifest please post ASAP. The main game will begin once everyone has introduced their characters.
Hmm. Personally, I feel that Resolute is a great choice for this ship. If you really want something different, I'll let you take this: Machine Spirit Oddity: Stoic - The vessel behaves like a beast of burden, plodding but reliable. Due to its somewhat plodding behavior, whenever the crew would gain Profit Factor from an Endeavor, reduce the amount gained by 1. However, whenever one of the ship's Components becomes endangered or unpowered, roll 1d10. On a seven or higher, the ship shrugs off the damage, and it is ignored.
As far as the mono-sword goes, I rule that the sword is primitive in nature, thus requiring the proficiency, but does not have the penalties associated with a primitive weapon. And, for the oddities/history: Machine Spirit Oddity: 1d10 ⇒ 8: Resolute - There is little in the universe that can stagger this vessel. No matter the foe, it will advance slowly but surely to meet it. The ship suffers -1 Speed, but gains +3 Hull Points and grants a +10 bonus to all Repair Tests. Past History: 1d10 ⇒ 4: Wolf in Sheep's Clothing - Beneath this vessel's unassuming exterior is a dangerous spacefaring predator. The captain selects 3 Components. When scanned or subjected to anything but a thorough internal inspection, these components will either not register on the scans, or appear to be a different Component of the same type. Thus, the ship might hide additional armor plating, or a small macro-battery may be much more powerful than it appears. However, the ship suffers -2 Power to maintain the systems creating the illusion. The ship may also have concealed smuggling compartments, unseen passageways, hidden cogitations-override programming, or other secrets.
You can allocate rolls, I don't think that I had said that explicitly, but it's fine. I was just about to ask which ship you had wanted from Battlefleet. That's pretty awesome ("entire voidborn communities live out their lives, uncaring as to the vessel’s current owners’ motives or identities") - go for it. Jarrion Nostravi is in, completing our crew complement. The roster: Rogue Trader - Tristan Casmirre
Rogue Trader - Tristan Casmirre
Ellipsis, could you put Jarvis's background on his profile? Other than that, you are (as the above makes obvious) in.
Alright, Jeramiah Lux and Macharius Sarvus are accepted, bringing the manifest up to: Rogue Trader - Tristan Casmirre
As far as distributing the ship points goes, I think that the Hammer and Anvil idea is great, but you guys can make the final decision. How about everyone who wants to give a ship idea, and on Friday we can all vote. As far as the group Rank goes, I'd rather keep us at Rank 1 for now. If scaling the game down doesn't go well, I'll have you all go up to Rank 2. Oh, and I think that you made a
Mistake: with the Anvil, EngineHouse. The power seems off, but I didn't run the numbers, I just looked at what you wrote. Anvil
Hull: Jerico Class Space: 40 SP cost: 25 Essential Components (18 space left, 14 power left)
Supplemental Components (18 power used, 14 space used)

I'm going to start running a face-to-face rogue trader campaign this thursday and there's no reason I can't use the same material for a PbP. I'm sorry, I meant of the people who had submitted characters. And, seeing how this game works, I don't mind having more people. How about one person for every career path in the Core Rulebook? So eight. And I will review everyone who submits a character. Tomorrow fully accepted characters will start showing up at the top of this thread. I will pick the starting ship and profit factor, to make it fair. I would go with your suggestion from Into the Storm, but I don't know that book very well.
Tuesday is fine for those who said they have to wait - I'm still working out what we're going to be playing - if nobody minds too much, I think we'll start off with a published adventure, and work our way into a story of my own. So far Tristan Casmirre, Lucius Azrael, Havelock Iacton, Eli Kage, and Jarvis Atercarina, pending a thorough reading, are accepted. Did I miss anyone?
Alexander, I'm happy to pass the reigns to you if you feel up to it, as I'd like to play sometime, but I can handle GMing for however long. In the meantime, I think applications are in order! I'd preferably have a smaller crew, but I can probably handle 5-6 people. As such, I'd like everyone to put together a character concept/background. About 200-300 words would be enough, although more is always good. I'm looking for both an interesting character and mastery of the English language.

Hey, I was reading this the other night, and I realized that I'm going to have some time on my hands in the next few days. Maybe I won't be quite as horrifically thorough as you recommend, but I'd like to attempt something like this. Probably a party of four, using a Samurai and an otherwise standard party, at various levels (5, 10, 15, and perhaps 20), against a fair variety of opponents. I will admit, I've never done anything like this before, so if anyone (particularly CDProtocol) can recommend, well, anything on how to carry this out, I would appreciate it. BTW, not sure if there's somewhere I'm supposed to introduce myself or anything, but this is only my second post on Paizo.com. I'm an old 3.5 player, and have been playing/GMing Pathfinder for about 6 months now; I figured it was time to stop lurking around the forums and actually post.
It's my understanding that you are doing it by the books, but I have to say, as a DM, if this happened in a game of mine I wouldn't mind allowing the player to re-roll. I mean, if it happened once or twice, nah, but when it keeps stacking like that? Either the character needs to deal with the really crappy HP, or you should let him, i dunno... re-roll at least one or two of the HP rolls. Of course, it is agreeable that this should be fixed. In my game I have my players keep track of what they have rolled for HP in the past, and let them take the average of all of the former rolls rounded down. Wouldn't fix your problem, but it helps even out the randomness a bit. Anyone else with a suggestion? |
