I am very excited to slay some heretics, hoping this gets moving soon? Is everything okay, or do you need anything from us?

I just realized I never did my "intro", hopefully that has not been the holdup.

The agent known as Ash by most is often a figure of mystery, for those who know him only in passing see a scarred, disfigured man who hides behind a hood. Yet they appreciate his skill in both mending wounds, and stepping into combat.

For those who know his given name of Maxim, or his assumed surname - Ashvayne - they have likely learned the tragic tale of a penitent knight who survives to defend, but who failed to save those he loves the most.

Not sure if it was necessary, but I went ahead and swapped to the more strength dominant build, to embrace a little bit of his nightly origins while also being a physik/medic. I am all set to go to this point.

For starting gear requests, given his feudal origins, I assume maxim would still have some kind of a medieval-esque armor, maybe mail and a shield. For arms an appropriate sword or mace, and likely also a pistol and either rifle or shotgun. I kept him solid projectile, matching with the archiac Firearms of his homeworld. And a medikit of course.

WS 40 BS 42 S 41 T 40 Ag 43 Int 50 Per 30 WP 38 Fel 32 Infl 30 AP ?? Wnds 15/15 FP 4/4

I had originally planned for Maxim to be this sort of religious knight type character, but then leant into the medic role as a twist into more of a knight hospitaler when it seemed like we had quite a few tanky-bruiser types. It seems like several of us are capable at melee, but we don't have that "tank" anymore (where did the sisters go?!). If I undid my swapped characteristics, I would go back to having a 43 Strength, then could swap Fel for Int to still get a high Int for Medicae. Thoughts from anyone?

Maxim is a very tragic character, I will fill in more soon. Need to review my XP spending.

wounds: 1d5 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

This is Wanderer82, posting with my alias. I need to tweak his backstory a bit (the previous iteration was an arbite who got infected but recovered; now he will be a knight-physik who got infected and became a mutant), and update the numbers, but the basic idea is here. Should have it done on time. Thank you for the assistance.

Good morning and my sincere apologies. I will not bore any of you with the details, but right after we started this game a series of life issues sent me on a chaotic spiral trying to hold things together at both work and home. This caused me to lose track of gameplay, then out of embarrassment/anxiety, be terrified to breach this board once again after realizing what had happened.

I am sorry to have left you all in such a lurch. I understand my utter lack of reliability has marked me poorly, and accept if you would prefer to not have me return to the game. But iIf you are willing to take me back on as your medic, I would be happy to join back up once again.

Best Regards,

- WW / Maxiim

Apologies everyone, looks like my last post didn't go through, must have left it on preview. And then somehow I got logged out of my account, So when I loaded the character page, it showed no new posts to the campaign. I will catch up now and post shortly.

Exiting the safehouse with the others, Maxim is quick to flip up the hood of his greatcoat to offer coverage against the acidic rain. He quietly comments on the weather, though to no one in particular. "Shale winds in the outlands of Merydian, acid rain within this accursed hive - it seems every world has some way its trying to kill you... Well then, Master Zaan, lead on."

Maxim pulls on his greatcoat and buttons it across his chest. He then slips his rifle back into its sheath and shoulders it underneath his medikit on his back. Turning to Ptah, he picks up the small vox unit and holds it out to him. "I would assume you would be the one to carry this?"

Turning back to the others, "I agree, time is of the essence. On the way to this House, perhaps it would be smart for you-" gesturing to Morvius, "to speak to your fellow caste? We know precious little about this family, even a few rumors might prove useful."

WS 40 BS 42 S 41 T 40 Ag 43 Int 50 Per 30 WP 38 Fel 32 Infl 30 AP ?? Wnds 15/15 FP 4/4

Maxim listens intently as each part of the proposal begins to come together. "Indeed, we would not want our deception to crumble should we need any of our skills. I am not well versed in the ways of nobles, certainly not on this world, but Morvius, would it make sense for you to come escorted with retainers possessing a variety of skills? If you've heard of the trouble for the Guljian family, your House could be making a proposal of assistance in return for some later boon, and the assistance you bring includes a priest for spiritual guidance, a techmage to assist with repairs, a chirurgeon to treat any who may be ill, and of course-" gesturing toward Havelock, "what noble would travel without security?"

Maxim's right eyebrow creeps up as he listens to the posturing between the techpriest and the acolyte. "This better not go sideways before we even begin.' His back eases a little as the pair seem to reach something of an accord.

After the others have each had their say, he leans forward with a nod. "Maxim Ashvayne, Medicae and former sergeant in the Merydian Iron Guard. I am here to keep you covered, and patch anyone back together that gets in too much trouble."

Turning back toward the vox unit, "Thank you Interrogator, this work will be done."

WS 40 BS 42 S 41 T 40 Ag 43 Int 50 Per 30 WP 38 Fel 32 Infl 30 AP ?? Wnds 15/15 FP 4/4

Maxim sits patiently at the table, listening to the briefing. He does his best to take note of details, and judge the reactions of his fellow team members. 'An interesting bunch, to say the least. An ecclesiarch, a technomagus, a swordsman or bodyguard, and... A dilettante. Guess I am here in a dual capacity -' the thought is abruptly cut off by the techpriest's words to the acolyte. Trying to redirect, he pulls out a dataslate to record notes on as he speaks in reply to the transmission:

"Interrogator van der Orm, you mentioned the other nobles suffered "terrible deaths" - do we have any specific details regarding the nature of their final moments? And these artefacts, are they believed to be the source of their wounds? My skills as a Medicae could best be prepared with any details we can ascertain prior to the next occurrence."

Anyone observing Maxim will note his rather generic look in comparison to the others in the safehouse. He is physically unremarkable, with a lean, athletic build, an angular face, pale almost gray skin, green eyes, and dark hair. He keeps his hair loose and shoulder lengtg, and his facial hair at a heavy stubble. He is wearing gray and black fatigue coveralls, with a hooded flakweave greatcoat hanging over the back of the chair. At the foot of his chair is a pack with a sheathed longblade on its side and a leather bundle on the other. Strapped in a harness on his chest is a compact autopistol, which he barely takes notice of as he moves.

I have similarly loved both the Pathfinder Games by Owlcat, and am very hopeful for the upcoming Rogue Trader crpg. I was so disappointed by Inquisitor Martyr when it came out a few years back.

History with 40k I got into 40k back in the late 90's, when my first army was Chaos Space Marines drawn from the 2nd Edition Chaos Codex. Since then I have played off and on across the multitude of editions. I have read all of Abnett's Inquisitor series (Eisenhorn/Ravenor/Bequin) and most of the Gaunt's Ghosts series. I am about a third of the way through the Horus Heresy portfolio. I have some experience playing and running the 40KRPGs, but no experience with Wrath & Glory. As such, I don't know much about the Gilead System, but am excited to learn.

Character Questions
I swapped out Logic for Operate (surface).

Below are a couple questions I posted in the Recruitment or Discussion thread:
1- Any consideration for each character getting a free Aptitude (to give us easier access to more skills), or perhaps a bonus couple known skills? Just a thought.
2- did you give any consideration to the alternate weapon options in the Macharian Handbook? I am still considering swapping Weapon Training (Las) for (SP) as discussed in the recruitment thread.

Timber sports, sounds exciting! I assume that is like chopping down trees and axe throwing?

Okay, linked HERE is the spreadsheet I started to look at our skills coverage. We have pretty decent support across most skills, with a gap in the "rogue-ish category (no character has the Finesse aptitude). The Assassin applicant pulled out, and the Desperado didn't finish - either of them would have filled the role. Below are skills that could use support.

NO COVERAGE
acrobatics, intimidate, operate, sleight of hand, survival, trade

LIMITED COVERAGE (1 character)
athletics, commerce, deceive, interrogation, medicae*, navigate, psyniscience, security, stealth, tech use*
* = both only have 1 character with the skill, but that character is specialized in the skill, so better off than most.

GM of the Hive Any consideration for each character getting a free Aptitude (to give us easier access to more skills), or perhaps a bonus couple known skills? Just a thought.

Maxim grew up the son of a chief Medicae chirurgeon, running an administratum hospital on the mining world of Merydian V. Maxim was bright and learned at his father's side, who expected his son to follow into his profession. And indeed Maxim desired much the same, they'll growing up on a mining world, he had longed to serve the imperium of man as a mighty soldier in the Astro militarum. Merydian V had not been called on to found regiments (It's population was dedicated to the mining work), so he joined the Planetary Defense Force instead. Hiding his medical training and knowledge, he was drafted into a scout unit that patrolled the hinterlands beyond the major mines. After a conflict with some raiders, maxim saved the lives of three other soldiers with his medical skills. This led to him acknowledging both his ability, and being reassigned into a PDF hospital. After his term of service, he left the PDF and returned to work alongside his father.

Then the ash pox came and ravaged his world, took his family, and lead to a chaos uprising... But that's a story for another time....

So, Maxim Ashvayne (he abandoned his surname when he joined the Inquisitor's retinue) is a pragmatic and caring, yet sarcastic individual. He is first and foremost a Medicae, and quickly after a capable marksman. His wide patrol work has given him some measure of stealth, though it's a skill he would like to hone as he serve the inquisitor more.

There is definitely a nice mix of backgrounds and personalities in the retinue, It should make for some interesting scenes.

I will take a look over everyone's skills later and see if there are any gaps in our company.

Thank you, I am very excited to be selected!

For any and all who applied (accepted or otherwise), I will be posting a recruitment for another dark heresy game in the next few days, hopefully I will see you all there as well!

This is Wanderer82 tagging in with his "PDF Trooper turned Medicae" Maxim Ashvayne.

The son of a Chief Medicae Chirurgeon serving the imperial lord on Merydian V (a mining world on the edge of the Gilead system), he enlisted in the PDF as headstrong youth after learning his father's trade at his side. Having seen enough death in conflicts on the harsh world, he returned to his father's practice and started a family. But all that was ripped away when the Ash Pox came. When the plague went viral across the planet, those without means or assistance rose up in rioting and violence, and once again Maxim had to lift a rifle in defense of life.

Hope there is room for one more!

It Begins with A:

Maxim managed a mirthful chuckle at Alex's joke. "Eh, if it does, does that mean you are four years closer to death then? Let's hope not..." he lets the half-though linger as he comes to the cogitator they have gathered around to review their updated orders. He reached up to push his loose hair back from his face, his cheek unconsciously twitching as he did.

"Four years is a lot of time for unchecked subversives to grow their machinations. Assuming this mine is a valuable target, it sounds like a plausible move for our unknown target. So yes, they may have reached the point of hostile negotiations. And if so, we will be required to help convince the heretics of their error in judgment." Maxim follows Alex's lead as he checks over both his shotgun and sidearm, then rifles through his weathered medikit.

Looking over to their fourth companion, he leans in, "Oi, Ata, are you going to handle the covert contact with our Inquisitorial brethren?"

Maxim had been about to respond to the harsh words between the librarian and the salamander, when the practiced rhetoric of the Ultramarine gave him pause. Warily, he took stock of the Marines. They were far more diverse then the other kill teams he had served on. It would take some getting used to.

________________________________

Maxim commits himself wholeheartedly to the tutelage offered by brother Pardis. While Pardis's instruction does include practical time on the vessel's range for Maxim, far more of it is spent in lecture and discussion. Maxim listens intently, both with a thirst to know his enemy, and with a reverence for the ancient marine bound within the dreadnought. When brother Pardis had first mentioned working on Maxim's marksmanship, Maxim was curious if the venerable warrior thought his skill to be lacking. What he comes to realize is that Pardis has a wealth of lore regarding the necrons, lore that will help Maxim identify and capitalize on the few weaknesses the Necron possess, though minor they be. As their days of training draw to a close, Maxim looks up to Brother Pardis, "I am honored to have received your instruction, and humbled to be tasked with putting this knowledge to use against the enemies of the Imperium. Given the... tension between my new comrades, where does your inner circle stand on the xenotech of these necrons?"

I found that reference regarding Tactics I was searching for. It's a "special use" of the Tactics skill listed in the core rulebook.

Ambush:

A character in the role of Kill-team leader may use Tactics (Recon and Stealth) in the place of an opposed Concealment for himself or any member of his squad provided they are in Support Range (see page 213).

So it is only one specific use, but its possible there are more in other books, and its possible we could develop similar systems to go with the other tactics.

WS 40 BS 42 S 41 T 40 Ag 43 Int 50 Per 30 WP 38 Fel 32 Infl 30 AP ?? Wnds 15/15 FP 4/4

Maxim takes in the Dreadnought's words carefully. After a time, he offers his response. "The battle canon of the Leman Russ is a mighty weapon capable of massive destruction, but a single shot from a laspistol can alter the outcome of a battle far more if placed correctly. So too is a marine most effective, when used to optimize his strengths. A Shadow Hawk is a hunter taught to take every advantage in seeking its prey, from the gift of terrain to the natural or learned weaknesses of a target, all leading to an exacting strike. In the end, it is my skill as a marksman that delivers failure or success. One shot, one kill. That is my goal. How best might I accomplish this against so dire a foe?"

WS 40 BS 42 S 41 T 40 Ag 43 Int 50 Per 30 WP 38 Fel 32 Infl 30 AP ?? Wnds 15/15 FP 4/4

A cold eerie whisper of a voice comes from amidst the assembled squad, "That a threat be so grave that knowledge of it is tightly restricted even amongst those who have taken the oaths of the Long Watch, presents it as a dire matter indeed. I am honored to be asked to receive your hallowed tutelage in fighting such a threat."

The marine had gone unnoticed until his haunting voice echoed out of his helm. His power armour is the same jet black of the Deathwatch, and its smaller, tight lines denote is as mk VI Corvus pattern, though his chest carries the skulled aquila of mk VII pattern. His helm is of particular note as he removes it, adorned with ocular enhancements on the right eye an up-pitched angular beak that looks like a cross between a standard corvus helm and shielded plates of an Aegis pattern helm. His right shoulder pad is edged in charcoal, with a deep crimson shield adorned with a dark silhouette of a diving hawk, no doubt the mark of his chapter. His helmet removed, the marine's face is angular and ash white, with jet black long hair. For any with questions regarding the Shadow Hawk chapter, their lineage as successors of Corvus Corax could is plainly clear.

As he opens his mouth to once again speak, the haunting aspect of his voice is established as not a factor of his helm, but rather its natural tone. "I am talon-brother Maxim Ashvayne of the Shadow Hawks, sworn to serve the Ordo Xenos in the Death Watch. Brother Pyros signaled that I should come."

For those taking further note of the newly arrived battle brother, he seems... small... for a space marine. Still massive compared to the average man, but his armour is noticeably shorter than then rest of the kill-team. The handle of a power sword rises over his shoulder, and a unique, long-barreled bolter with a custom scope hangs on his right hip.

Hey Valens, as a fellow new member of the Kill-Team, we only have Renown 50, which means we don't qualify for "Famed" or "Hero" renown items. We are also only allowed one relic if I remember correctly.

An mastercraft quality Combat Shield would cost the same 30 req as the Remembrance Shield, give you a field of 1-25%, but it only fails after on a roll of 1, whereas the remembrance is 1-30%, but fails after on rolls of 1-10 (1/3 of your successful uses). And, the Eldar wouldn't want to murder you.

As for the Plecian Tome, no recommendations there. You already have an MIU and a Combi-Tool, so you should be killing Tech Use checks anyway. And damn, you have a lot of cybernetics/bionics!

As our devastator Brother Vartas took care of a missile launcher, I tweeked things a bit and picked up an exceptional quality MIU and added the Inquisitorial Asset: Arcane Weaponry to the meltagun I requisitioned, adding the Accurate ability to it.

Requisition (199/200)
Meltagun (inquisitorial assets, arcane weaponry: accurate) - 35
Power Sword - 20
Combat Shield (exceptional) - 30
Astartes Jump Pack - 15
Backpack Case: kraken ammo - 30
Meltabomb (4-pack) - 24
Cybernetics: MIU (exceptional) - 23
Auspex/Scanner - 12
Astartes Assault Shotgun - 7
Astartes Webbing (medicae pouch) - 3

Random question (and making sure I am clear on the impending gear system), should we even be requisitioning items that are below 14 req if they are going to be readily available on the ship (looking at my last three items)?

Also, to your options proposed for Master of Arms, I was originally hoping for Felling and either Accurate or Blast (as I felt both fit my backstory), but the part that I thought of for blast I edited to fit Scatter, and the Accurate for a meltagun I accomplished as listed above. So, Felling and Scatter it is.

I had originally intended to take the Dead Station Vigilant alt rank, but as I was working on my history and the chapter background, I flwas concerned it did not fit well. Combined with the realization that Pyros already had the alt rank (and I would be raining on his parade), I decided to pass on it.

If cheap ammo is free, I had set aside 20 rec for a backpack of stalker ammo (5+15), and we don't need req for a thunderhawk, then I have some req to pick up a missile launcher (which I had been going back and forth on anyway).

Okay, finalizing requisition and Signature Wargear (took base and master).

My proposed Signature Weapon is a mastercrafted stalker boltgun (15x2=30) with a fire selector (+2=32). With the remaining 8 req, could it be a custom weapon that allows semi-auto burst as a standard boltgun (range reduced to 100m when in semi)? Could be a rare update to the stalker pattern, wraith pattern perhaps?

Requisition:

Astartes Assault Shotgun 7
Meltagun 20
Power Sword 20
Combat Shield 20
flip belt 21
astartes harness 4
astartes webbing (medicae pouch)3
astartes jump pack 15
camo cloak 20
stummer 5

That's 135 spent. Given the discussion of shipboard requisition (items costing 1-14 requisition) being freely available, does that mean low cost specialty ammo (ex: stalker rounds, 5 req) would not need to be actively requisitioned? Trying to figure out my ammunition expenditure for the rest of my requisition for this extended mission (kraken rounds, etc).

Looking to enter into the RP. Being a new addition to the kill-team, should i be on the new ship when they rendezvous or could I have been on board this vessel and only recently reassigned to join this mission?

Think everything is just about done. Will copy from spreadsheet into character profile and post requisitions tonight when I get home from work. Very excited to join the kill team, hope Maxim is a worthwhile addition.

Was working on both XP and gear, and found a copy of "Outer Reach" and damn, the Dead Station Veteran seems perfect for this mission. I had been looking for some kind of quirk or advance to make my tac-marine stand apart and it looks solid. Think it would make sense for a necron specialist to be pulled in for this mission, thus justifying my character being added to the kill-team as well.

Just to clarify, with advanced specialties, deeds, and the like, any XP spent on those does not count towards level, is that correct?

200 requisition plus a chapter/dw relic, or the relic comes out of the 200 req?
