About Nomi Sylvanwind
Nomi is the daughter of Eza and Serria Sylvanwind, a pair of renowned adventurers and leaders of their village, Sylvanwind Glenn. After a lengthy campaign against a Penumbral Lord, responsible for decimating the village, Eza and Serria returned home triumphant. For their bravery and leadership in the face of danger, they were unanimously voted in as village leaders.
Sylvanwind Glenn is located deep in the forest, and it's inhabitants are all adept woodsmen, fishermen, hunters, and carpenters. They are taught how to survive in the wild and to live in harmony with nature from an early age. As is tradition, all youth are put to a special rite of passage once they reach an age deemed ready. The age varies, as no youth is sent into the wild if the elders feel they are not prepared, but there are circumstantial age limits. The rite of passage consists of the youth being sent into uninhabited wilds of the deep forest, where they must survive for at least one year before returning home. They are sent with only basic tools and equipment. The youth are observed through divinations by the village shaman, and are occasionally tracked by experienced hunters to ensure that they are not passing the time in civilization; the year must be spent in the wild. Upon the youth's return, they are judged by the council on their performance. If the council are satisfied, the youth is recognized as a full fledged member of the village; they are given a vote in town meetings, and various other benefits that come with recognized adulthood.
Nomi is the oldest of five children. She's been groomed by her parents to be a capable hunter, tracker, and pugilist. Nomi has trained hard her entire life to live up to her parents expectations, but her parents insist that she find her own identity and place in the world as well. She's been blessed with her father's tenacity and ambidexterity, as well as her mother's sociability. Nomi is very bold, determined, fearless; her mother worries though that she may have lost a sense of femininity in trying so hard to be a good hunter. As Nomi is gifted, she still has much to learn; her over-bearing nature has caused her trouble on more than one occasion.
Nomi has recently returned from her rite of passage successfully, and will soon take her leave from the village and see Ghelspad for herself...
