"Keep him tied for safety but give him a little more slack so he can at least stand flat footed. You have been a good companion Latovius so I apologize for questioning your wisdom however the man has been through enough and we are not torturers like the Black Knight." What state of exhaustion is Markas in and has Louis showed any improvement in his condition?

Character sheet changed. The rope was tied but at least Timerious could stand. Perhaps this wasn't a lynching and the headdress had nothing to do with things or it did and throwing the cursed thing changed the outcome thought Markas. Unsure of intentions Markas continued towards Timerious and said, "what is the meaning of these ropes Latovius?"

This situation is getting out of hand. Too many people have acted out of character around the cursed headdress. No time to think only act and so tired... thought Markas. With seemingly two actions to make, save Timerious and destroy the headdress the cleric took the quickest path to each grabbing the cursed item out of his sack ignoring the need to be careful not to touch the item, and threw it away from the group hoping that it might break the hold it had on the actions of the group. Then moved to Latovius as quickly as possible to attempt to stop him from tying the rope. Not sure if all of this can be done so no rolls were made. Please adjust as necessary. Praise Petra!

Leadership skill with diety bonus: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (9) - 2 = 7 Markas summoned what strength he had left, exited the wagon and said with a forceful tone, "Timerious is my charge and I say he will no longer be bound. We didn't rescue the man from chains only to replace them with ropes. If anyone has issue with this I understand but you will have to go through me to hurt the man." I will stop here to allow for responses.

Despite feeling as though he deserves to be punished Markas has pushed himself to exhaustion and needs to lay down in the back of the wagon. Does Latovius have a place to ride? If the seat upfront is still open Markas will suggest tying Timerious up in the open front seat under Latovius' watchful eye. If Latovius is taking the front seat Markas will tell Timerious the walk may help quell his rage and that after a rest Markas will join him in his walk. How long is it from this point to the farm?

"Latovius never have I been so glad to see a man! Praise Petra. Thank you for finding us. Poor Louis and I could use some rest. Yes Timerious gave us some troubles enough so that Adrianna was going to put him down so we set off alone. I think the root of the problem is my cross to bare. Back in the Black Knight's keep old Timonious found a cursed headdress and I had been carrying it in my sack with the intent of destroying it ever sense. I fear the headdress is what has been causing Timerious' rage and Louis maladies. Before we set off from the others I tried to destroy the evil item but in my weakened state could not." Markas put Timerious and Louis equipment in the wagon but retained his own sack for fear of corrupting the other goods.

Markas sees that Timerious is awake and has calmed down from his rage. "Timerious it was necessary to tie you up before you hurt someone or someone hurt you. I think you have been being effected by this cursed headdress as you were trying to destroy it. I followed your lead and tried to destroy it as well but it seems to have stronger protection then my current strength. Our friends here have asked us to leave as they grow afraid of what you may do. So it looks like the three of us will be off for Hawk's Hill. Until we get away from the others your hands will have to be bound." Assuming Timerious is okay with the decision not that he really has much to say being tied up and all, Markas will collect his and Timerious' items putting the headdress (without touching it) back in his slimy bag and putting Timerious' items and Markas' items including the war hammer in Timerious' bag. Markas will carry both bags. "I wish you well in your journeys fair maidens and hope to see you again under better circumstances. Latovious will you be joining us to Hawk's Hill? If not then I hope to see you back in Melinor. Be well friends and may Petra guide you."

Whoops I had half of the fatigue part right. So far Adrianna seems content with allowing me to try to destroy this evil token. So tired though. I will give this one more try and then try the enchanted hammer from my bag, thought Markas. Markas lined up another shot at the headdress straining what pools of strength he had remaining and said "Petra guide my hands." mace attack vs headdress: 1d20 + 3 - 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 - 3 = 61d6 + 3 - 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 - 3 = 1 Perhaps Petra isn't listening... In the next round Markas will retrieve the enchanted hammer and give that a try.

"I fear it is my fault for not destroying this evil talisman. So should Timerious be my undoing by his actions or yours I accept that fate as punishment." With that said Markas tossed the rope over to Louis and raised his mace attempting to destroy the foul headdress. "Petra give me the strength and guide my hand to destroy this cursed item!" Not sure if there is any bonus vs an inanimate object so I will use a standard attack roll. Please adjust as necessary. Attack on headdress: 1d20 + 3 - 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 - 3 = 131d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

"We will leave once I destroy this evil token. It has done enough harm." Without looking away from Adrianna, "Louis are you with me? I know you are ill but I need someone to watch Timerious should he wake again with his rage." Markas will prepare for an attack from Adrianna but if it doesn't come immediately he will say a quick prayer and attempt to smash the headdress to bits. If she does attack he will only strike back with non-lethal blows.

With the crazed man asleep and the danger temporally abated Markas simultaneously went about two tasks. The first was to further eliminate the physical threat of Timerious by removing his weapons and if possible tie him up. The second was to warn of the evil headdress. "Do not touch that headdress! It is cursed. I had planned to destroy it's evil back in Melinor. I fear that is what was causing Timerious' rage." Once Timerious is secure Markas will warn the group to stand away and then Markas will attemp to smash the headdress into pieces with his Mace.

Markas awoke to a madman spouting threats. His instinct kicked in and immediately grabbed for his mace. "Away from him Louis! He is my charge I shall deal with him!" That's the evil headdress I was taking back to Melinor to destroy. Is that what is causing Timerious' rage? Markas thought.

It appears as though we are at an impasse. Timerious clearly has work to do with his timber and likely won't leave until that is done. Louis and Erik are not doing well with their strange illness and I fear that they may be lost if we don't get to a healer soon thought Markas. "Gertie do you know of any healers in Hawk's Hill that might be able to cure Louis and Erik? I know Timerious has a task to do but we need to get healthy and rested." Markas waited on the answer from Gertie but his mind was set that health, rest, and a safe haven were of crucial concern. As to my second straight post, it appears as though most characters are unwell at best and don't really have a task at the current location aside from Timerious. I figured that he needed to drive the story for a bit. If Gertie tells Markas she knows of a healer then Markas wants to get moving. If she is unsure of a healer then Markas still wants to get moving. If she says that they need to stay to accomplish something then Markas will reluctantly stay and perhaps help Timerious with his goal.

Shaking off his own weariness Markas addressed the group, "I know we are all tired and banged up, but we are close to Hawk's Hill and some much needed rest. Can all of you push on? If not we can stay camped for another day. Petra has blessed me with her healing touch if any of you need assistance." Markas waited for an answer from the group.

First thing in the morning despite the gnawing at his belly, Markas prayed to Petra for help. I am reading that I need to check for each spell so I will make 3 rolls against Wisdom. If I only need 1 check please use the first one and ignore the others. Wisdom check for CLW: 1d20 ⇒ 15 Wisdom check for PFW: 1d20 ⇒ 19 Wisdom check for CLW: 1d20 ⇒ 17 The next thing on the list for the day is to get to Hawk's Hill and talk to the elders on behalf of the Ogres. This brought Markas back to thinking about the parchment. Just the thought of it made his stomach curl a bit. Perhaps Adrianna could make something out of this gibberish. Before setting off Markas will ask Adrianna if she can make anything of the symbols on the parchment. If asked he will reveal that the parchment was given by Grulin. Additionally he will ask for her help in identifying the unknown potions he had been holding but only when she was feeling better.

Feeling good about his winnings Markas decided to try his luck in another matter. Since Gertie doesn't want the parchment or so it would seem either it wasn't intended for the old woman or she wants Markas to deal with it. With this line of thinking Markas decides to look at the parchment himself. As to the rest of the evening Markas will ask for opinions on who would take watch throughout the evening. If asked he would pull a shift of watch.

Before the night is over Markas would cast his remaining CLW spell on Louis. Also did Gertie ever take the parchment from Grulin? The power of dice compels me. CLW on Louis: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Wis Saving Throw: 1d20 ⇒ 11 dice game roll: 1d6 ⇒ 5 dice game roll: 1d6 ⇒ 6 dice game roll: 1d6 ⇒ 2 dice game roll: 1d6 ⇒ 5 dice game roll: 1d6 ⇒ 6 dice game roll: 1d6 ⇒ 4

"Be well friend Darcy. May Petra bless you in all your travels." Despite his disdain for Timerious, Erik was probably right. Had Timerious encountered the Ogres there might not be much of the party left, thought Markas. Now was the time to share Petra's healing touch starting with Louis. CLW on Louis: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Wow what a train wreck! With the party in such bad shape it was time to be the instrument of healing despite his own need for rest thought Markas. Summoning the last reserves of energy he had endurance skill: 1d20 ⇒ 13 Markas began praying to Petra for 3 cure light wounds spells. Time enough for sleep in the grave.

While one year was not two, the Ogres were still doing Petra's bidding throughout the land and that is good thought Markas. With the Ogres about to leave Markas approached Murlsan and thanked him for his help, wished him well in the coming battles with the Orcs, and told him to take good care of Garent. He then went to Garent and gave him a big hug. Markas' next intentions are to check on the status of the group's health, then talk to Gertie about the Parchment, and then to declare the journey to Hawk's Hill still needed to be completed to finish this mission. If no threat is apparent and food and water relatively plentiful Markas will be praying for 3 cure light wound spells once rest is had.

What is going on that you may not be able to provide your service of protection? And what is on the piece of parchment that is worth a year of service? May I read it? One last thing if I can be so bold do you possess any healing magics to restore health and vitality to our fallen comrades to hasten our travels to Hawk's Hill to speak to the elder's on your behalf for trading purposes? Without the benefit of Petra's healing touch, I am no better a physician then Latovious. As Darcy reminded there still remains a job to be done thought Markas. Markas approached the Ogre brothers wary of their pet. "Ogre friends we have accomplished the first part of our task. We bring back your brother Murlsan. It is time for you to honor your two year agreement to protect the people of this area."

The cobwebs quickly were cleared and now a new crisis arose. The Ogre brothers were not dealing as fairly as or honestly as they seemed to have been when our deal was struck. Perhaps this was there way of bargaining from a position of strength as they have their brother back but the last piece of bargaining the party had was to talk with the village elders. Should I use their tactic of negotiations or would it lead to the parties demise? Which side of a battle would Murlsan choose? Such stakes in the mix. Time to gamble thought Markas. Addressing Darcy as if the Ogres were not there, "No Darcy that was not the deal. Neither was the amount of people bartered with." He paused to pick up his shield and brushed it off. "Our hosts do us a grave disservice after helping them do what they were not powerful enough to do themselves." Markas then scanned the group to see who among them was injured and the severity of those wounds. If any of the party members was in poor shape Markas will attend to their wounds before continuing with his words. Addressing the Ogres, "is this the way you would protect the humans of this area? We freed Murlsan from his captors and he has fought alongside our group no matter the number like a true friend." He paused again to look at the wolf that nearly bit him, "Heel your pet before I treat him like you have treated us." I will pause here to see if we are still alive after Markas' beginnings of a monologue. Also who currently is felled?

Markas surveyed the surrounding people his mind foggy from fatigue and the attack. Were the foes still among us? Is that the wolf that had attacked? The carnage of the attack left many of the party in poor shape. Where is Timerious? Who are those large beings in front of me? Those thoughts and many more flooded the dazed cleric. While the party looked worse for wear it appeared as though there was no immediate danger. "What happened?" was all the cleric could manage hoping that someone could fill him in. He followed with, "Does everyone live?" This was a time Petra's healing touch would be most welcome but Markas hadn't time to pray for his gifts.

Markas ponders Adrianna's suggestion. It might be best for all parties to drop off Timerious with this Saksi fellow but then again Gertie seems to incline that Timerious is destined for important things. Markas also ponders giving Timerious a weapon and for the meantime he is inclined to keep the man weapon less. At least until a new foe presents itself. Somewhere along the way Markas would have thanked Darcy and Louis for tracking the lost twosome down. Before resting for the evening Markas checked on his charge. Making sure that Timerious was still doing well. "Timerious I hold the Black Knight's sword I would like to give it to you but won't for now. You will need to heal and rest before you can put it to any use and even though you never drew the sword on me and I trust that you wouldn't, others don't hold my belief. What if given the choice would be your path next? Would you like to leave our company and see this Saksi of Halav?" He paused to hear the man's answer. When their conversation is done Markas will inquire again of Louis to keep an eye out for Timonious while the cleric rested as he was in dire need of rest and planned on praying for spells first thing in the morning.

"Before coming to the Black Knight's keep we had stopped at Hawk's Hill and before we arrived there our wagon had some of it's good stolen. Your uncle (I think as I can't remember who else off hand) and I tracked down the missing goods that were lifted and the thieves were a band of teen halflings. Those same halflings were watching us grapple and when you were knocked out they distracted me and stole my silver mace and I fear a couple of your weapons. One of the little buggers then hit you in the face with my mace. It was then that I remembered them and I chased them off to prevent you any further damage and used Petra's healing touch to help with some of your wounds. I am sorry that I didn't remember them before it was too late."

"Timerious do you not recall attacking me? That is most troublesome. We fought for quite some time and I was hopeful it was just a difference of opinion as you never drew your blade. Now the others trust you even less and have put you in my charge." Markas continued to tell the tale of the battle and the halfling thieves. "I would like to release you from your bonds. Can you give me your word that you will not attack us? Gertie has faith in you that your fate is important to the cause and that is good enough for me? I worry that I am not strong enough to fend off an attack on you should you turn." No matter how Timerious answers, Markas will release him but will keep his eyes on him and will enlist Louis to assist him when the cleric requires sleep.

Markas tells the group about the skirmish with Timerious. His own feelings aside he holds back no information allowing the party to form their own opinions of the actions of Timerious. He also tells of the teen halfling thieves showing his anger a bit in the storytelling. If time permits Markas would like to pray to regain his spells and allow for Timerious to heal but will yield if the group wants to push on to the Ogre's camp.

Markas was extremely thankful to see his two comrades. Praise Petra thought the cleric. "It is good to see you friends. Petra truly provides. Before I tell my tale be wary of a band of halfling thieves. They struck again adding insult to injury." Markas paused briefly shivering from the cold and rain. "In my continued folly I accompanied Timerious in hopes of talking sense into the madman. For my efforts I was attacked but Timerious never took out his weapon so perhaps that is a good sign. After fighting for awhile I was able to best him and that is when the Halflings engaged us and robbed me of my silver mace and likely some of Timerious' goods. Then as a final insult the halflings hit the fallen fighter causing more injury, even more than Petra's healing touch could recover and alas I am out of spells until I pray. How far are we from the others? We were lost." Still angry from the second robbery Markas added, "what is the penalty in this area for thievery?

Faced with an unenviable set of choices. Curing Timerious could add another foe but it also could add another defender if the Halflings grew brave. Markas used Petra's Healing Touch on Timerious. Cure Light Wounds on Timerious: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Ugh and the bad roll syndrome is back. I believe that is my last available spell for the day. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks. After casting the spell Markas surveyed his belongings as the silver mace the halfling had looked much like Markas' own. Does he notice any missing items?

"Leave him alone!" yelled Markas angrily as he swatted as the youths. Depending on what is possible and the halflings reactions Markas would do things in this order... If the hallflings continue to harass Timerious, Markas will do an unarmed combat slap at a hallfling starting with the one who hit Timerious in the face. If the hallflings do indeed leave Timerious alone, Markas will cure light wounds on Timerious. After those actions Markas will attempt to maintain eye contact with all the hallflings.
