Mara Joans (not her real name) is a spy from a drow city some distance away. When her family dropped in standing, the ruler of the city tasked Mara's family with providing spies to infiltrate the surface.
Mara was one of those selected by her matriarch. Once she reached the surface, Mara made a beeline to Kaer Maga and abandoned all contact with her home.
She likes the surface. She really likes Kaer Maga. The politics here are simple compared to home and great deal less dangerous. No one seems unduly frightened by her. Most people do not seem to know what drow are and there is a refreshing lack of surface elves.
Currently Mara is supporting herself doing odd jobs that mostly need to be done underground. She'd really like to be a Dusk Warden, but the test required of initiates sounds too easy for the job. Mara is holding off applying until she can find out more about the hidden pit falls that must be part of the test.
Mara is always seen wearing a hat, tied below her chin with a ribbon. She is never seen wearing the same hat two days in a row.
As drow go, Mara is open and friendly. Of course, that is like saying as brown snakes go, this one is not especially venomous.
In the past year, Mara has performed five or six odd jobs for various priests of Pharasma. Her utter lack of fear of the underground has stood her in good stead and they know that she can be relied upon to keep things quiet and to not raise a fuss.
