About Malik Seal-brother

"My name is Malik." The large, athletic man pauses as if thinking carefully whether he wants to add anything more. "My people call me seal-brother because I have been a strong swimmer ever since I was a small boy. Many of the strongest warriors among my people talk about the great opponents they have faced. Perhaps a young warrior has killed a bear, a scarred veteran may have defeated a troll, and a few of our greatest heroes have battled with linnorms. My opponent is greater than all of those - I fight against the sea."

"Don't look at me like I'm stupid!" He glares and his muscles tense up for a second. "I'm no bookish wizard, but I'm not as dumb as you think. Ask yourself, why do people fight monsters? To protect those who are too weak to save themselves. Perhaps the bear was going to eat a small child, or the linnorm was threatening a whole village. That is the same reason why I battle the sea - to protect those who are too weak to save themselves. When the storms blow off the Isle of Kortos, and some unfortunate ship has run onto the rocks, that is when I take up the fight in order to save a few more souls from drowning."

"What's that you say? Are there not wizards who could fly out to wrecked ships, or even walk across the water as if it were dry land? Certainly those people exist, I have met them in the Pathfinder Society, but they are not so numerous and they are often distracted by other things. Who really understands wizards? Not every town has a wizard, but every coastal hamlet has a guy with a boat and strong arms for swimming, and sometimes that's enough to get the job done. I sure hope, if I have to pull your sorry wet ass out of the water some day, that you just say thank you instead of asking so many stupid questions."

He smiles, and seems to grow calmer before adding, "And by my count, I've saved a lot more people from the sea than my warrior companions have saved from linnorms!"
