"I'll look into the chemicals that might have been used. Perhaps I can isolate a specific industry where the precursors are commonly used," Malcolm offered.

Will Wesson wrote:

"Mal? Do you know where our killer could find dyatrinide or luscrin?"

Will shifts in his seat, apparently uncomfortable with something.

Mal nodded his head as he replied, "Well Dyatrinide would be hard to come by and it would require a laboratory and someone with chemical background to produce." He paused for a second, looked around the table, and continued, "On the other hand synthesized Luscrin is a bit easier to produce by an amateur or in a home lab. Also, regular luscrin is widely used and is easy to acquire making it the more likely of the options."

"So, besides waiting for the next killing, they only thing that seems viable is to learn more things about the victims. In that regard, everything that involves showing our faces to other people could backslash to us, my opinion is that we should minimize our exposition and things like interviewing witht he families, at least face to face, should be a last resort if everything else fail. We should first look for autopsy reports, criminal records, financial information and...that's all I can think, it will be hard to get the information, at least legally."

"Well we could try several different approaches. We could try to find who has access to the drugs that might have been used, visit the crime scenes, review the police records, look at the voodoo angle, or talk to the victims families. All of the options have risks."

Malcolm thinks about the cause of death of the victims and offers, "There are a few drugs or poisons that can cause heart failure the two most likely are dyatrinide and luscrin." He paused for second and scratches his chin, "But we cant rule out a biological weapon like saltwater gas either."

He looks down at his notes and shrugs his shoulders, "Unfortunately, with as little information as we have at this point we have to consider the real possibility that voodoo or dark magic is involved."

As the group discussed the killer and his methods Malcolm searches the recesses of his memory, There has to be something I've overlooked.

Biology/Chemistry: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Biology/Chemistry: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Occult: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Happy Thanksgiving to those in the USA. Everyone else Happy Thursday!

"Well, at least we have some names and dates. I think our best bet is the dates, they have to mean something. also I think Adrien is onto something, I wouldn't be surprised if we had two deaths on the 20th," Mal adds ominously.

"The files just gave a general location. We'll probably need to do some more leg work to get exact locations."

"Assuming we haven't missed any victims the lack of killing on Saturday could mean something. But what?" Mal wonders. "The first thing that jumps out me is something religious."

Lisa Delgado wrote:
After the pleasantries are exchanged, Delgado gets to the point. "Yesterday I made a small discovery about the real clubhouse on Fisher St. But before I get to that," she turns to Jake, Malcolm and Adrien, "what did you find out?"

Malcolm stands up and fiddles with his notes for a few seconds. He clears his throat and begins, "We found some good stuff. I've got a couple of names ...." He relates the information he found out to the group.

Putting a skill point in deception.

Malcolm finishes putting the records away and heads to the parking lot to meet his cohorts.

When he arrives he quickly gets into the car and announces, "Okay, I've got some info. Lets get out of here."

As he talks with Dr. McConnel Malcolm begins to feel sweat starting to drip down his back. Hope he doesn't notice, Malcolm hopes.

Deception: 1d20 ⇒ 17

Mal continues straightening up, Dr. McConnel, can't place the name. He qucikly replies, "Unfortunately, it seems like late hours are my specialty lately." He looks down at his pile and adds, "I guess I better put this away." He continues putting the files away.

People: 1d20 ⇒ 6

"Is that you Dr. Proctor? You're ten minutes late, grab a cup of coffee and help me put these away," Malcolm hurriedly responds as he begins picking up his files.

"Don't worry," Malcolm whispers into his phone. Best get right to it, he thinks as he is tempted to get a cup of coffee. Resiting the uge Malcolm stats his search of the of the records looking for dates matching the dates the victims were killed.

Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Bio/Chem: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Bio/Chem: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
I think I roll twice for bio/chem

Malcolm made his way through the staff entrance of the hospital and went right to the elevators. He presses the up button several times, in futility, hoping his actions will hurry the elevator along. When the elevator eventually arrives he quickly gets on and selects the top floor as his destination. He begins to sweat as the the elevator slowly ascends. He reminds himself, Don't worry, you work here.

Adrien Chevalier wrote:

For a start, in order to make our search harder to connect to the Roshburg killer cases, we need to look for more than the seven victims we are interested in. Another ten or fifteen... gender, race and age chosen at random just for distraction.

"Makes sense,"Malcolm replied. Not used to clandestine activities he suddenly realizes something, If the killer realizes we're looking for him are we in danger of being his next target.

He has an uneasy idea and asks, "Do you think we could draw the killer out by being very obvious about our search?"

As Malcolm gets into Jakes car with Adrien he says, "I should be able to use the hospitals system and pretend to check on one of my current patients." He scratches his chin, "We might need a back up plan any ideas?"

Adrien Chevalier wrote:
That's seems like the correct course of action, Malcolm. But how easy or hard is to get access to those records?

"Shouldn't be to hard, I have privileges at the hospital," He announced hopefully.

Malcolm looks at his companions wearily, "Any ideas or leads we can track down while we're here?" He waits for a response and adds, "I suggest we go the the hospital and cross reference the records at the morgue with the information we retrieved at the library."

That's a great idea, Thanks!

(Crud and several other curse words! I was writing a long post, and then my computer decided to shut itself down. I'll get back to this tomorrow, if I can. I was hoping to do this today, because tomorrow is a busy day for me.)

That happened to me once and it does stink!

Jake O'Malley wrote:

"Seems as good a place to start as any. I'll admit, this is the part of working a case I didn't miss."

"Okay Jake you drive then," Malcolm replies as he climbs into the front seat of Jake's vehicle.

"Unless anyone remembers the names of the victims we're going to have to stop by the library first and look at some old newspapers." Marcus continues, "Once we have some information we can cross reference it with funeral services and hopefully get some names or other identifying information. Also, there might be some useful information at the hospital morgue that will help us to get a more complete picture as to who the victims are."

As he watches the club Malcon anounces to Adrien and Jake, "I've got a bad feeling about this. Let's go see what we can find out about the victims and their medical records."

Malcolm watches the first group enter and waits twenty minutes and goes in.

I will be on the road Tuesday – Thursday please feel free to bot me as necessary. I do not foresee having any problems posting. However, tomorrow is going to be an 18 hour day and I might just hit the sack when I get to my hotel.

"Thanks, I'll ride with you if you don't mind," Mal responds.

Paranoid, Mal thinks as he listens to Jake's advice but doesn't argue the point. aloud he says, "You seem to know what your talking about Jake, mind if I tag along with you?" Perhaps we all should be paranoid. We are chasing a killer after all," he concludes.

I like the idea of advancement or hero points for temporary one time bonuses.

As far as equipment goes we could use the internet, over the weekend I'll see if I can find some other source.

As the night unfolds Mal wonders, What am I doing here? Why should we believe anything this letter says and more importantly why should I trust anyone in this room or this mysterious benefactor?

Nevertheless Mal is intrigued and before he realizes it he is caught up in the mystery of the who thing and offers, "I might be able to get my hands on the medical records of some of the victims. Seems like a good place to start." He looks to Milo, "Do you think you could find any police reports on the victims?" He begins writing notes keeping track of assignments and ideas the thinks better of it, "Best if we don't keep notes."

Underground: 1d20 ⇒ 2
People: 1d20 ⇒ 16

Malcolm sits down in place number nine and rubs his unshaven jaw and cautions himself, Careful don't share too much. Aloud he announces as he looks around, "I guess I'll go next. You can call me Mal... I think we all received the same mysterious letter and lets say I'm a concerned citizen who cares about innocent lives."

Looks good

Sorry suffering from writers block and normal lack of imagination.

Couple of questions tht will help me with my answers:

How closely does the history of the campaign mirror our own?
Where does it begin to diverge?

Living Arrangements:

Malcom lives in a brownstone which has been converted into several apartments. It located close to a trendy portion of town that has recently benefited from the city’s urban renewal efforts. Malcolm rents the apartment and it is one of the reasons he couldn't afford a car even if he wanted one.

Relationships:

Malcom is currently single and a serial dater. He has several reoccurring woman in his life that he maintains friendships with.

Still working on setting questions.

This is G-units submission stats are in the alias. I went with a variation of the 10 minute background let me know if you want more info or a more conventional background let me know.

10 minute background:

Step 1: Write 5 background and concept elements that you feel are important to your image of the character. These can be a concept overview, a list of important life events, a physical description, a personality profile...whatever you need to get an image in your mind.
1. Malcolm’s father is Senator John Grey, although they have not talked in years. Senator Grey is a solid Republican while his son is on the other side of the spectrum.
2. Malcolm’s father paid for him to go to one of the most prestigious universities in the country. The goal was to have Malcolm go to law school and follow his father into politics.
3. Malcolm passed on law school and decided to become a doctor. As a result his father disowned him and cut him off financially. Thus, Malcolm was forced to get into debt for medical school and got his degree from a little school in the Caribbean.
4. Malcolm is altruistic and lives a bohemian lifestyle. He tries to be green, he doesn’t own a car and rides a bike to work, recycles, and uses public transportation. He is a bit of a health nut owns a juicer, loves sushi, and tries to eat organic. He works out regularly and loves to bike and kayak.
5. Malcolm takes a holistic approach to medicine trying to treat the mind, body, and spirit.

Step 2: Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile. If you like, you can include an enemy of yours here as well, so I have an instant NPC nemesis to throw at you.
1. Alisha Burns business partner. Alisha is the heart of the clinic while Malcolm focuses on the business side. Malcolm is at times exasperated with Alisha and her giving nature.
2. Eric Holtz, a former classmate of Malcolms who went to Law School and is a partner of a successful practice. They occasionally get together for lunch.
3. Dr Vashrum Guta Chief of staff at the local hospital. He despises Malcolm and his holistic approach to medicine.

Step 3: Describe three memories, mannerisms, or quirks that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor.
1. Malcolm is in favor of gun control and will only use a hand gun in dire circumstances.
2. Malcolm is proud of his beard and unconsciously strokes it when he in deep thought.
3. He never hesitates to lecture someone he sees smoking.
