I am personally a big fan of Secret checks. I had started doing this in PF1 before the advent of 2e, to prevent the meta-gaming of knowing that someone failed badly at skills that you really can't tell, like perception or stealth. And while adults might not meta-game purposefully, it's still affects your actions and thoughts about what you missed etc. I have no issues with how things have played out so far. I think there are threats bigger than the party sometimes, and you just have to be aware and/or take some hits. Just the way the ball bounces sometimes. I prefer a combat challenge instead of steam-rolling foes all day long. I expect the GM will evolve with us as long as the feedback is constructive.

Rudely awakened by Brightberry crashing to the ground, Lyra leaps to her feet quickly and draws her blade. She spend a moment scanning the creature nearest the mules, marking that as her prey Action to stand
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
Lyra pats Edoom on the back. "It happens to all of us. Good to have you taking risks and keeping them off the rest of us. Sometimes, it might get hairy for you, but the healing team has got your back." As Brighberry motions to the wolves, Lyra actually speaks to them, trying to see if they understand speech, and will listn. "It's ok, wolves. Thanks for helping us. Take this meat, we have food, at least for now." Not sure if there is any kind of check here but let me know.
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
While the others check on the fallen Edoom, Lyra drops her sword and draws her bow, taking careful aim at the fleeing boar who is among the wolves now. "Glad the wolves are there, but they make shooting difficult." she mutters out load, trying to aim around the allied wolves. Think those are likely both misses. Lyra bow vs remaining boar: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
Lyra thinks about shooting her bow, but the boars close the distance quickly, so instead she draws her longsword, and attacks the boar which is directly between her and Edoom. She strikes it twice, dealing some slashes to its rear and flank. Longsword strike vs flat footed AC: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Draw Sword (interact)
If the one that is flanked by Lyra/Edoom is dead, substitute movement to flank the other instead of 2nd strike
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
I am holding posting until the initiative comes around for Lyra. I may be tied up this weekend, so if it comes to my turn, feel free to shoot the boar if they are hostile (or if we are hungry) using her bow skills. I will be back Monday most likely.

Lyra has spent some time outdoors, and has not seen wolves follow groups of people before, usually they slink away and look for easier prey. As they walk the next day, she spends some time watching them, looking for any other behavior that is out of the ordinary. Not sure what check, if any, might work here. She has +5 Nature or a +7 Perception if those are indicated.
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
To be clear, the 105gp results from the sale of the bandit items, and the other things that Lady said we could take. We gave back her guards gear and the money, and offered back the magic weapons. Offering them to her was intended as a courtesy, not a slight. If she didn't want to have first dibs on the other gear, and would retain the magic weapons instead, I think we would've just kept the magic weapons, and sold the things elsewhere in Brevoy.
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
"We will likely need to be off the road, so perhaps the mule with saddlebags is the right choice for now. What about feed for the animal?" Provided everyone agrees, she forks over 2.4gp for the beast and two saddlebags. She would also like to buy a 4-person tent (5gp) and provisions for a week or two for everyone including the mule. An extra week at 4sp times 5 people is 2gp additional. Is it the time of year where we need cold-weather gear? Anything else before we go out? Do we need map-making tools or a compass or anything else?
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
Lyra will offer up the sword to anyone who will use, and will move the rune to her longbow instead, if that's the decision. I will vote for waiting a day to get that accomplished along with selling the rest of the gear, and buying some outfitter supplies. Do you want to manage that on camera or off? I am fine with hand-waving it if DM and all are. Happy to handle the math of selling, and buying, and splitting the proceeds. I'd like to get that business settled so we can set of for real. I am fine with daily requirements most days, though there are some where RL intrudes. And I will try to tell you if away for any length of time. My experience playing/running PF2 is still limited, but I don't think there has to be a tank per se to make things work well. There is enough flexibility without super-optimizing party dynamics to make most things work, so play what would be fun for you.

GM Tribute wrote: Longsword +1 and mace +1 are yours. Lady Jumandi appreciates your offer, but insists you keep them. Lyra will keep the longsword then. Anyone want the magical mace, or sell? Or hold on to the rune to Transfer?
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
Lyra returns the box of cash and the magical mace. She parts with the magical sword found along the way as well. The items that were the house-guards they easily return. If the clerk wants to claim any of the other gear, jewelry or loot, Lyra will listen. Once the accounting of what is the House's is settled, Lyra offers the clerk to buy the rest for 105gp. "Why make some middleman rich. You can take if off our hands at sale price, and not have to pay retail. We would trade some of the coin for a cart and animal to lead it if have any to spare." "Oh," she adds, "If you can point us in the direction of an outdoor outfitter, we have some other supplies to get before we set off for our charter-lands." Not sure if you want to hand-wave acquiring some of those things. Or if you want to RP shopping trips. Any idea what time of year it is? Do we need to consider cold-weather gear etc?
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
Unless someone objects, we will return all the longswords, including the magical one (but Lyra will get mundane one back), the chain mail, 6 hand crossbows (after Edoom takes one). The magical mace will be returned as well. I think we would keep/sell the rest, except for the potions, which someone should claim/carry. If the Lady wants to buy it from us, it saves a step. If my math is right, that adds to 104.11 gp. I'd suggest we get a cart and draft animal (mule?) with some of that so we can carry things through the Greenbelt easily. Think we should also get some outdoor gear, like tents etc, and enough food for a while. Thoughts? I am fine with a team name. Guardians of the Greenbelt is merely a suggestion.
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
"Well, I hope we've seen the last of them," says Lyra ironically when the Iron Wraiths and the other groups leave. "Does anyone have a map or know where this Oleg's is?" "Also, we have a pile of gear to sell or move along with us. I am new enough here, that I don't know anywhere to deal in those things, do any of you?" She looks proudly at the medallion, thinking back about the actions of the night before -- at least right up to the point where she fell.
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
As far as pre-buffing goes, I think my rule would be what's good for the goose is good for the gander, and if we decide to allow it, then the bad guys will use the same tactics when they can. I would tend to lean against it, especially given the 'extra action" economy available vs PF1 etc. In Age of Ashes, the bad guy of book one is pre-buffed in the stat block with Mage Armor, FalseLife etc already in place before the heroes arrive. But that was first AP, and authors may have moved away from it over time.
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
Welcome Jade, and thanks for the healing. Sorry, I was tied up last night and couldn't respond timely. 1) can we assume we are fully healed when we start again?
So far, I think its going well. I am perfectly happy with Lyra's build, but I need to find her voice a little better, which might come more in non-combat situations. Thanks for piloting us this far!
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
Seeing Brightberry go down, Lyra now trains her targeting onto the boss, trying to take her down so someone can get healing to the falledn leshy. She then trains a pair of arrows on the axe-wielding leader. Lyra Longbow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Not sure if the party is still inspired, but if so, add +1 to hits and dmg listed above Mark Target
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
Inspired by the scene, Lyra grins in approval as her first target falls. She takes the measure of the other assassin, marking him as her prey now. She nocks her bow and fires at that target. She thinks it a killing shot as it leaves her bow, and starts to move across the room, to get a clearer line of sight on the boss who remains. Lyra, inspired: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 1 = 17
Mark target

Be advised, I will be OOO starting tomorrow morning through Sunday evening. Will likely not be able to post during this stretch, so feel free to bot Lyra as you see fit. Should be back to regular schedule Sunday night or Monday.
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
With Brightberry opening the door, Lyra spies the assassins across the room, she fires her bow at the nearest of the two, marking him as a target first. She then steps into the room, breaking to the right, as she does so. Lyra longbow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Mark Target
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
Lyra shakes her head at the offered goodberry, "Maybe later, but hold it to see what kind of trouble we get into. Let's move out." She strides over to the door leading south from the billiard room, and readies to open if once Edoom the Tank is ready to go.
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
Can (and will) either Jaerthal or Tertuccio provide Treat Wounds to themselves or others? If not, Lyra will take another minor potion. Lyra wipes the blood off her blade before sheathing it once again. She strolls back to the doorway and gathers her bow, shouldering it for the moment. When that's complete, she searches the fallen bandits for loot, gear or treasure, making sure to show any items to Brightbarry for magical detection. "We can spare a few minutes, I think. To make sure we aren't the ones who end up dead." She drinks a potion again if no one is administering to the wounds she suffered previously. Minor healing: 1d8 ⇒ 1 BLEH
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
I think the other assassin minion is dead, if so Lyra takes his space. Enraged at the man attacking a defenseless woman, Lyra steps adjacent to the assassin's boss. "Put down the blade and live, or keep pushing it and die." she cries, marking him as her newest target. Either way, she stabs at him with her longsword, determined to at least wound the man and get his attention. Lyra Longsword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Step (or Stride if that square is occupied still)
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
Think I moved the tokens where you intended Lyra, sword in hand, leaps through the doorway and at the wounded assassin. "I don't care if you kill her, I don't even know her but you'll end up just as dead." She attacks the Black Tear minion with her longsword after marking it as her hunted prey on the way forward. Lyra longsword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 possible critical?
◆ Stride 15'
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
Lyra catches the wink from Brightberry as he sends healing energy to the fallen Edoom, and it fills her with hope for a moment, even if one of their number was already down. Determined, she sees this is going to be an up close fight. She holds the doorway, trying to keep the assassins inside the room. She drops her longbow, draws out her longsword and attacks the hunted prey through the door way. Longsword + guidance: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 1 = 16
Drop bow as free action
Not sure if attacking around the door corner carries a penalty, but will let you apply. If its a hit, the first strike vs hunted prey per round does an extra 1d8 precision dmg (included in the roll).
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
Lyra's eyes widen at the scene, including the assassin's leader and the body of Jaerthal. From the doorway, she marks the bad guys directly across the billiard table as her prey, then fires a pair of arrows at that target. ◆Hunt Prey vs assassin
Lyra Longbow vs Hunted prey: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
Lyra doesn't really cast a second glance at the fallen Turtuccio. This is a war, and people die. Didn't seem like a very friendly sort anyway. When Edoom is ready to move out, she covers him with her bow, ready to shoot if anything menacing is waiting on the others side of the door. With the night's rest effect, Lyra is at 14/20hp now.
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
Sorry for the late notice, but I am away on vacation this week, returning on Sunday night late. Will try to peek in occasionally, but have had some trouble with Paizo site access. Please run Lyra as you see fit during my absence.
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
"Milani? That's clearly the Inheritor. See how fierce she is?" Lyra enters the room carefully, looking around for anything else of note. If she doesn't see anything, she motions to the others to leave. "Lady Jamandi isn't here, so no sense standing around." Lyra's Exploration Action in this room is Search, but if she spies nothing it will revert to Scout for moving down the hall.
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
Lyra moves out after the others, the burns on her face and arms still smarting. She enters the other room, which is still ablaze, and helps the others with extinguuishing the remaining flames. Survival to extinguish: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Hopefully that puts the fire out for good!
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
As the flames leap up around her, Lyra cannot react quickly enough to avoid getting roasted. The heat and flames scorch her but she manages to finally help quell the fires. ◆ Extinguish using Survival
Lyra takes 7hp fire dmg and is at 12/20. If the fire is out before all her actions are used up, move her instead to more fiery locations Lyra Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
I am out of town this weekend starting today through Sunday. I will be unlikely to post during that time, so feel free to bot Lyra as needed. If she survives the double critical fail, she will keep fire-fighting as needed. If combat occurs, she will typically shot using her Ranger hunting skills to inflict most damage.
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
Lyra hurries into the next room after this one seems safe. She struggles to breath a little through the bedroll mask, but is thankful to not have to inhale the smoke. She beats at the flames in the second room as much as possible.
Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Well, that seems bad...
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
Like Edoom, Lyra looks for something large to put over the flames to suffocate the oxygen feeding them, like a rug or tapestry. Failing that she uses her cloak to batter on the burning manor rooms, trying to beat them out. But first, seeing the smoke filling the hallway, she holds her breath, trying not to inhale the heavy vapors.
Survival to extinguish: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 Maybe a bad choice to hold breath, but trying to save an action. Need to read the rules about this...
F Half-Elf Ranger 1 AC:18| HP: 15/20 |Perception +7|Exploration Action: Scout
Lyra is still a bit wounded (13/20hp) and looks to see if there is any first aid or potions available before leaping back into the breach. She will down another minor potion. Once she has little of those wounds restored, she goes to the door where rags are stuffed under, and opens it for Edoom. Healing potion, if nothing else available: 1d8 ⇒ 6 [ooc]Marked the minor potion off the loot list for now. She is at 19/20, so that's close enough for operations./ooc]
