Chelish Diva bard.

She sings in the opera, wears heavy armor (seriously she can wear almost anything Cyan can), uses a shield, is a party leader (in the world of ruin) and charismatic.

I would also specialize in counterspelling with dispel magic to emulate runic.

I highly approve of this idea as well! I have to admit, Chelish Diva came to mind for me too, but only because I've played alongside one.

I'd have to read up on the occultist options. A quick read of the class descriptions on the PRD made it sound like a cool archetype with loads of flavor.

I haven't dealt with dispelling much. A quick read of dispel magic makes it sound like it's simply a matter of rolling a d20 plus your caster level. What ways are there of raising your effective caster level for these types of spells?

I appreciate the input so far! I guess my main goal would be to build a "melee with spells" kind of character. There's plenty of that in Pathfinder, of course - but I don't get quite the vibe I'm hoping for from cleric or inquisitor. Celes didn't necessarily appear to be a divine-powered character, as her abilities were derived through Magitek.

I'm not very savvy on Oracles, so I'd be interested in being "led by the nose" there.

I haven't played FF VI in quite awhile, so it's been good just to have a refresher on just what Celes did in the game.

As the title says, I am looking to build a character for Pathfinder Society inspired by Celes of Final Fantasy VI fame.

I've seen a number of Final Fantasy conversion threads, and the class that often comes back for her is magus. I'm not beholden to the idea if you think another class suits her better given all the recent releases in the game.

Anyway, if I did go magus, I wasn't sure if STR or DEX better fit her thematically. She starts out with pretty balanced stats, but I have forgotten how her progression looks.

I viewing her character art, she is often depicted with a curved sword, so scimitar would work OK in my mind. (Besides being a nearly optimal weapon for the magus with its wide crit range).

Dervish Dance would make the Dex build really come off, but it's also considered cheesy by many people. Another consideration is that I currently do not own UM or the ISWG.

Current books include: CRB, APG, UC, Unchained, Advanced Class Origins and Animal Archive.

If there's a similar-working thing within there (work towards Eldritch Knight?) then I might like to try that too.

Lyn moves around the log Provoking? and takes a swing at the orc.

After a second punch goes awry, Lyn looks at her fist in disbelief.

Lyn looks in puzzlement as the axe simply passes through her chest.

"Right enough, Darren! Tessa, have you located the source? If not, maybe we should just press on."

Wayfinder has been down for me since Paizo site update. Posting is definitely more limited now. Assuming the orcs are not too high to reach, can someone move my token?

Lyn rushes over to the 'purple' orc and takes a punch!

Lyn grimaces at the last comment, but ignores it for the moment.

She gives Kuran a friendly look, saying:

"No need to be troubled Kuran. I can handle a few beasties."

She shoots a look at Darren at that comment.

To the mayor:

"You needn't worry, sir. We can handle the job."

Lynthara nods at Blossym and Kuran as they retire for the night. She eyes the swordsman warily, but decides a little drink and cards would be a pleasant enough diversion. She joins the "daring" man and any others that enter as well.

A tall, dark-skinned woman has been standing quietly at the back. She wears a loose fitting tunic of deep blue with similarly loose trousers. Her form is lithe and strong, and she might seem pretty if she didn't seem to always be scowling.

"Yes, I will be ready too. Might as well get the job done!"

After leaving the VC's office, Lyn looks at her companions:

"I'm Lynthara. I've recently been in training with Master Farabellos. I'm skilled at fighting with my hands and feet. Weapons and armor simply slow me down, though I am a bit more vulnerable. Is there anyone here who could use a wand if I bought one? Particularly one that can cast the mage's armor?"

Hey guys, Derek here . I can't decide what to do with Bram, so I am going to sub in this freshly level 2 character. Lyn will be building into Unchained Monk!

Lynthara looks around to see if there's anything that can be used to snuff the flames, like an old heavy cloth or something similar.

Ok, so I'm torn. I've really wanted to try out the unchained monk, and for whatever reason Lynthara's been sticking out at me waiting for a rebuild. I may hate the character and regret it, but having an inquisitor already at 5th makes me really impatient to wait for bane and my second judgement

I thought about go magus or bolt ace gunslinger, but I really don't want to buy another book.

First, you guys have already seen Lyn "switch" once. More doesn't seem fair somehow. Second, I don't want to step on Kenji's toes, though my own expertise with monk is nothing, so maybe he'll feel better for it.

I can bring in my 3rd level gunslinger. He's definitely not overpowered, since he only attacks once per round with no Dex to damage yet. I could shoot through cover, since I'd often target touch AC. Or we could go with Lyn learning some new skills and helping Kenji beat things up.

Another 8! Well, hopefully I can soak up some bad luck.

Lyn shoots at the nearest ghoul, hopefully not having Alacorta in the way.

Hoping that if Alacota is hovering at head height, I can at least avoid cover.

Lynthara shimmies up the rope, then tries to hide at the top while drawing her bow quietly.

Auto-succeed on DC 5 climb check. Now for Stealth roll...

"Well, if you'd lift me on your shoulders, I could make the climb Sele. But once up top I don't know how long I could hide before I was found out. Maybe there'd be a way to tie the rope off?"

Lyn's at +4 to climb, ACP included. She'll also heal from her wand after the last fight.

Bah, I'd need a nat 20. Why the hell is no one else rolling swin checks? Is.that only required if you move? Do your characters have swim speeds ir something?

No doubt! Some of these older scenarios do this kind of thing though, including a suicide in one.

In season 5 I'd exepect a demon in disguise, but here, it's just Game of Thrones harshness I guess.

Lyn frowns at the men in the bar, and swats away several hands that try to get too "frisky".

She listens with interest to Osprey's instructions.

"Well sir, that sounds manageable. Do you think this Lubor would respond better to a honeyed tongue, or a show of force?"

Well, it is only a possibility! Lyn hasn't needed to face thanks to Sele's rolls.

And we have so much melee, archery gets hard until I can worry less about cover.

I hate to keep rebuilding, but a bard could be quite strong for our current party.

Really, I just need to get a feel for what I want Lyn's character to be. After another game I may feel more attached and likely to want to continue with her.

I would be happy to participate for these. I have played Among the Living, but I definitely could GM it or use a star replay.

Still waffling about Lyn. Archery is feat intensive though, and I remember it being awhile before my ranger was doing much reliably. I'll stick with this build for at least the next game for consistency's sake. After that, Lyn will be 2nd level. I may want to sub in my 2 nd level dwarf barbarian after that, if that would be ok.

Lyn climb belowdecks. Seeing the enemy surrounded and with no real way to get involved, she delays.

Realized I haven't chosen spells. Can we say it's bless and CLW?

Lyn calls upon the Lady of Graves to boost her allies.

Casting bless. +1 to hit.

She then calls upon the judgement of her goddess seeking justice.

Justice judgement grants me another +1 to hit for this combat. Stacks with bless.

I'm back. I haven't been able to shake the cold I got last week. Mostly coughing is what remains, but not feeling too perky.

Disneyland was lots of fun, but I was more exhausted than I expected.

Yeah, after dark makes quite a bit of sense here.

She moves towards the door and exits.

Still talking big, which I think is appropriate for her. Pharasma is no freedom lover in particular, most Lyn would be miffed anyone would defy an agent of one of the Inner Sea's largest and most powerful churches.
