Image for Token: Image Age: 23 Height: 5'9" Weight: 195 lbs Favored Class: Paladin Potential Leadership Role: Ruler, Councilor, General, Grand Diplomat Description: Luzio is a young man of roughly average size. Standing at 5’9’’ few would find him physically imposing despite his significant muscle built over years of training. His entire appearance is generally serviceable but far removed from any attempt at fashionable. His hair is roughly cut into a serviceable, short style and dirty blond in coloring. A similarly colored short beard covers his chin and jaw. If one looks past his rustic grooming, his features are unusually fine and delicate for a human. His eyes are a deep blue, almost a purple and his ears appear to have just the faintest hint of elvish point to them. By far his most remarkable feature is his smile. Seemingly too wide for his face, his grin is nearly always present and despite not quite fitting his face the smile is warm, inviting, and infectious. A faint scar runs from the left corner of his smile – the remnants of an attempt by a childhood “playmate” to literally wipe the grin off his face using a kitchen knife. Luzio favors non-descript clothing in subdued colors. He can typically be found with a plain gray surcoat over his armor and a deep green cloak covering much of his body. The rest of his clothing is impeccable cared for and of generally high quality but completely free of embroidery or adornment. His one piece of embroidery is a scrap of silk cloth with the Lebeda crest. This cloth is woven into a bracelet he wears on his right hand with the emblem carefully concealed. BACKGROUND
Spoiler:
Luzio’s story starts in the mud. Specifically in the freezing mud on the banks of the East Sellen river one winter afternoon.
At his wives insistence, the trader polled his boat to shore and they found there, under a scraggly bush, a human infant no more than a month old. The infant was nestled in a basket stuck in the mud and it was a miracle that the baby was still alive. Against the winter chill, the infant was wrapped only lightly in a silk cloak. The cloak itself was a deep green of extraordinarily fine weave but most remarkable was the house crest embroidered on its collar. In fine gold thread was the clearly embroidered crest of house Lebeda.
How disappointed they would become days later when they delivered the baby to house Lebeda only to have the nobles not only not claim the infant but to threaten great pain upon the trader should he ever be so bold as to imply that the bastard child was any relation to them ever again. The trader, disgusted, took the infant to the nearest orphanage and left Luzio on the stairs of the rundown brick building that would be his home for the next 16 years. The staff of the orphanage were mostly hard working and kind, one young woman – Caralyn Donegal – even grew to be something of a distant Aunt to Luzio. Unfortunately the same could not be said of his fellow charges. Growing up, Luzio quickly learned that claiming to be the abandoned heir of nobility did little more than get you beat up. He suffered innumerable bruises and kicks as a result of “putting on airs” and by his teen years had learned to be much more circumspect in who he told about his suspected heritage. The staff, and Caralyn in particular, did their best to shield him from the worst of the abuses but they were few and could not be watching at all times. Despite his new found discretion, Luzio was the frequent victim of bullying and torment. One other boy had taken a particular dislike to him and delivered increasingly brutal beatings as they both reached maturity. His aggressor, Derek Garlund, eventually became so vicious that the staff of the orphanage began to worry for Luzios survival. After one particularly vicious beating that left Luzio with a broken arm and a face swollen to be unrecognizable the staff sent Luzio, for his own good, to live in a temple of Erastil some few towns over. There, with his new found discretion, ability to take a beating, and desperate need to please, Luzio excelled in his tutelage and found a calling in Erastils mission to protect community and family. He dedicated himself to the service of Erastil and in his training to be a Paladin he found a calling that not only spoke to his need to protect others but put him in a position where he was almost always respected and admired – something he had never experienced before. Luzio completed his training with honors and has spent the past 15 months patrolling the Brevoy border with the River Kingdoms doing what he can to protect the villages and hamlets that dot the wilderness. He is truly happy in his life protecting others but he also hopes that if he spends enough time in the villages and wilds of the southern border he might, eventually, unlock the secrets to his own past and discover the truth of his heritage. Personality
Spoiler:
Personality: Growing up in the loveless confines of the orphanage had an undeniable impact on Luzio. Where some of his peers at the orphanage turned angry and resentful, Luzio just became increasingly driven to find acceptance and family. His burning need for acceptance and adoration underlie almost every action that he takes. Partially as a result of this need for acceptance, Luzio is almost always positive and even downright joyful. His optimism can irritate the cynics around him and has led to him being duped and conned on more than one occasion. This same optimism can also manifest as a somewhat daring and reckless over confidence. He is so certain that things will turnout well that he will sometimes charge when it would be wiser to retreat. That said, in social situations he is heavily deliberate and thoughtful. He is loath to ever hurt anothers feelings and takes great care with what he says and how he says it to minimize the chances that he might upset another. Luzio places great importance upon the social bonds of family and community – two things he has rarely experienced himself. He will go to any length to assist and protect a village or homestead under threat and has spent most of the past year as a paladin of Erastil wandering the border of the river lands doing just this. In his childhood Luzio used to love listening to musicians at the local temple and in the squares. He has carried this love of music into his adult life and cant help stopping to listen when a talented musician is performing. A good bard could keep him enthralled for hours to the detriment of other responsibilities. His love of music has induced him to attempt to write a ballad of his own detailing his adventures and journeys – but it is quite apparent to all who hear his composition, other than Luzio himself, that his love of music does not come with anything resembling a talent for the art. Luzio has little temper and can rarely be brought to anger but is nearly unable to control himself in the face of mistreatment or abuse to children. When presented with children who are endangered or abused he is prone to over reacting in the worst possible way. |
