Any update on this?

Very hard to run this over roll20 when you can't export the map without the GM notes.

Shadow Lodge

I don't see it but is there a devastation ark subforum yet?

Hey Dennis and Luke,

I would normally look into it asap, but due to virus-related stuff I am just really busy. Can you wait a bit and I will look into it when I can. :)

Perfectly fine.

Just wanted to make sure you knew

Having issues resetting my password.
I get the reset link via email, click it and brought to the reset page.

I then input a new password and the arrows spin but nothing happens.
A glance at the debug console shows it's returning a 500-Internal server error.

Shadow Lodge

I'm afraid I need to cancel out my subscriptions.
Household is consolidating subscriptions.

The pathfinder subscription please cancel.

The Starfinder subscription if I read it right I should be good for the operations manual? Or do I need to keep the subscription until that is shipped?

Shadow Lodge

Hello.
I'm thinking of joining this would be my first Play by post rpg game (I did ACG in the last year and that went well so thought I'd try this).

I have an SFS character lvl 2 ikeshti technomancer.
As a heads up to the gm I have ran this adventure before but have never played it.

Is it okay if I sign up?
And if so what are the next steps? I would assume put my character on the scenario signup spreadsheet?

Shadow Lodge

Thanks Sam for all the help.
10-23 dropped in yesterday.

Shadow Lodge

Got the VA drop of the PFS 2e items.
Still missing - 10-23—Passing the Torch, Part 2: Who Speaks for the Ten

Shadow Lodge

Sam - Same issue here with the VO drop. I got all the PF1 and SFS stuff right before gencon, but I didn't get any of the PF2 PFS scenarios.

Correction:
No I didn't actually it seems.
The ones I didn't get on your list above.

-#10-23—Passing the Torch, Part 2: Who Speaks for the Ten PDF
-#1-01: The Absalom Initiation PDF
-#1-02: The Mosquito Witch PDF
-#1-03: Escaping the Grave PDF

Also 1-00 and the PF2 Quest if that was supposed to be in the VO drop.

Shadow Lodge

@Numbat - Yep 6pm should work fine for us if it works for others.

Shadow Lodge

Tonya - If I can suggest the Open for future listing needs a bit better description. It doesn't really covey what it is.

Axoq - The ACG Open is really cool if you do it, but I would highly suggest you know the game before you sit down to play it. It is a timed tournament where the team is trying to score points (every year the scoring mechanic is different) before the end of the slot. The top X teams move on to the next slot and so forth. I don't think the Open is a time to have the 'this is the ACG and here is how it is played' conversation. As most of the time the conversation goes, "You got a blessing?" "Gods?" "Works thanks. I passed next turn and remember to do <odd mechanic for the open here that will drive everyone crazy>."

For scheduling my husband and I lottery into the Open but for the other sessions we book things so that we can skip events if we need to participate in the later open slots.

Shadow Lodge

Cool.
What time were you looking at?
I know we get in mid afternoon so the evening slot?

Shadow Lodge

Numbat - My husband and I would vote for 'It rests beneath' followed by
'Dreaming of the Future'.

Shadow Lodge

It was said in another thread they were holding seats open
as last year they had a lot of walk ins that were told their was no open seats anywhere.

This year they are holding seats in reserve to deal with that.

Shadow Lodge

Someone looking at running some Starfinder Thursday evening/night (23rd)?

Shadow Lodge

Yep it sounds exactly like it was last two years.

Do you know when the level 1 event will be lottery enabled so husband and I can tweak our lottery numbers?

Shadow Lodge

Zagig -

Never miss specials. Even if you don't know the whole plot they are are a really cool experience.

Shadow Lodge

We end up when we get to the hotel on Wed grab an uber/lyft to the safeway. Pick up supplies and sandwiches and typically something for dinner/lunch (depending on when our flight got in).

We use that for quick meals when we are running around trying to make our scheduled games, and reserve a nice meal on our last night with friends living in Seattle.

Shadow Lodge

Husband and I will be arriving Thursday and leaving Tuesday.

So gaming on either day sounds good to us.
Normally a warhorn pops up to help organize this.

Shadow Lodge

Will this work like previous years where the winners of lvl 1 move on to 2 and so forth? Will we need to get tickets for all 3 levels or just level one but be ready to attend lvl 2 and 3 should our team win the round?

At that point we would swiftly reach a point where playing the Adventure Paths is the way to gain levels, vastly outstripping the scenarios’ advancement model—and this does assume something similar to a three scenarios to one level model.

My other concern here is that gaining, say, three levels per AP volume would swiftly lead to many high-level characters. In a new campaign, that can be as much of an impediment as your cited situation (if not more) because we are planning out the scenario progression and release of higher-tier material based on the expected level progression through scenarios. If someone plays through the first three Adventure Path volumes and hits, say, level 9, theykd emerge into an organized play environment that doesn’t have any scenarios of a level that they could play for (again, speculating rough examples) half a year.

First, thank you for responding.

I see the point, and with that knowledge, I have some way to explain it to players.

I also see then why the level gap is there, another thing brought up. It's do to the power level of rewards and credits.

Shadow Lodge 2/5 5/5 *

So this is an observation and proposal about Chronicle AP and PFS Levels.

Situation:
First off I VA a store where we have a good SFS presence but there are currently 2 AP runs of Dead Suns, and 1 of Aeon Throne about to start.

We are trying to pull those players to also come to SFS and give it a try, but we are hitting an issue. While this is an issue with SFS as both PFS and SFS uses the same leveling system it is the same issue.

It is a disconnect for them why their AP characters are so underleveled if I award them the AP sheets.

They are fine with the no house rules and equipment restrictions. It is just the level.

For example they have finished Book 1 and Book 2. By the AP books they are level 5. If I give them Chron sheet 1 and 2 they are only level 2 with a sheet that can't be applied yet.

I understand that there are some thorny issues with characters going back and forth, but if the big plan is to use APs to help attract people to org play this disconnect is jarring.

Propsal:
This could be as simple as adjusting the level ranges on the AP chronicle sheets to match what is given out in the books.

I made a topic to report how the game went but I guess it is not the proper way.

The survey is all online. If you follow the link and fill everything out, then it automatically updates the survey results so Paizo can see them. No need to manually send it anywhere.

Thanks.

I downloaded the paper survey and was like "wtf I do with that ?"

So now I Will need to found like for part I.

Tanks again.

Yes the paper survey is a reminder of details that will be asked for on the online form.

This is really important as later chapters will take more than 1 session and it lets you write down the results so you don't forget the nitpicky exact numbers like 'how many times were you koed'.

Agree with above poster.
Would use pages that would be better served with content applicable to new and old players.

Shadow Lodge

So one of the things I liked about PF 1e was that
thanks to the depth of class options and archetypes I could
create a starting character that was special.

A magus, or an investigator focusing more on mysteries, etc.

I never liked the 3.x model of 'level until you get to a prestige class', and having come from point buy systems it bugged me I couldn't build an approximate character from 1st.

Now I'm fine with multiclassing being post level 1 as it's a full opening of the class features, but for archetypes (like Cavalier) I agree those should be available out of the gate.

Shadow Lodge

Running an event Sat morning.
Pregens would be good.

Shadow Lodge

So my store charges a table fee basically to help keep the lights on and the store nice. For the play test only I'm going to count this as the ooc contribution mainly for play test purposes.

Shadow Lodge

Different design teams with different timelines.
Both games were being developed in parallel and one had a much shorter release timeline

Shadow Lodge

Remember there is the elite and weak modifiers in the bestiary.
That can modify the Level of the monster (thus alter the budget)

Shadow Lodge 2/5 5/5 *

Actually if the gm is willing to sign the paperwork then you can report for them. I've done this with GM's who run AP but don't do pfs but some of the players do.

Get them a pfs# and fill out the sheets and have them sign and initial.
Then you as the coordinator can report the table.

Shadow Lodge

Cool that helps.

Nah I have a ton of new PFS #s. I'm a VA so I carry around a ton of them in my store kit.

Shadow Lodge

Ahhhh.
That makes sense.

Thanks

Shadow Lodge

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out why my venture agent tag isn't showing up on my forum posts (As well as my gm stars etc).

Example post - http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2vann?Double-Checking-Reporting-Rules

Previously it just did when I picked the profile.

Shadow Lodge

So going to run Rose Street Revenge Saturday at a game store.

Just want to confirm how to report this.
It is as simple as adding a row to the player tracking sheet and explaining that they need to bring it with them when they playtest? Also, tell them to go fill out the survey online?

There is no secondary tracking on the site or requirement for the player to have a pfs#?

Shadow Lodge

Please remember it is Gencon weekend.
Most of the staff is working the show.

I wouldn't expect an update till Monday/Tuesday.

Shadow Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Also you may want to get someone who is colorblind to check your color choices.
What may be visible to most others won't be visible to people with that condition.

what are you looking for when you say reverse engineer? a rundown of different qualities and how they affect cost? Like:

+ extra dimensional space
+ weather protection
+ detection protection

- setup/take-down time
- only 1 usage per day
-- only works when setup (not a "portable house")

We'll more like if I were to try to build this item from scratch (designing this ooc not ic) how do you get to the cost? For other magic items it is easy but I don't see how you do it for wondrous items.

Shadow Lodge

I know part of costing a Wondrous Item is more art than science,
but are their any good guidelines or examples?

Specifically I'm trying to reverse engineer the Expedition Pavilion (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/wondrous-items/wondrous-items/e-g/expe dition-pavilion) so I can modify it for my game.

Thanks

Shadow Lodge

Just finished Night of Frozen Shadows and I thought I'd give an summary of the changes I made to the first half of the adventure.

When beginning to run the investigation I had two issues with the way it was written.

1 - If the frozen shadows knew who the party was why didn't they just kill them? Obviously they had the advantage of territory and numbers.

2 - The angel helmet.

I tweaked the adventure a bit to adjust for these issues.

First I decided that a number of caravans came in at the same time and the frozen shadows did not know which group was the heir. So they were watching a number of the groups trying to figure out which was the threat. This meant that they couldn't watch the party 100% of the time (as is implied by the events like the ravens), and also they couldn't kill all the caravans without attracting too much attention. This would probably have to be reworked if the party ever got to the higher level notoriety events, but my party never got that high.

Second I didn't like the idea of the angel helmet. It felt very out of place for an investigation plotline. So instead I worked out another solution. The party had already befriended the kid watching them (one of the notoriety events), and had basically paid him to leave a note and stay safe.

After the funeral barge the players end up running into a representative of the local Scarzni who wants to talk. They have a meeting with the Scarzni who tell them the kid had been killed and found in the river. (I wanted to reinforce how evil the Frozen Shadows were). The Scarzni were able to give most of the information the angel helmet was, but without the Oni and Jade Throne elements.

This solution also solved a problem I had with the old man notoriety event not feeling like it came from the Frozen Shadows, I instead had it come from the Scarzni.

After that the adventure continued pretty much as written.

I would love to see rogue eidolon's mod as we'll.
last night my players decided to ditch the relationsh system saying it was too briby.

Shadow Lodge

From the Core Rulebook.

Assuming NPC gear.
NPC Classes are -2.
PC Classes are -1.

CRB wrote:

Adding NPCs: Creatures whose Hit Dice are solely a factor of their class levels and not a feature of their race, such as all of the PC races detailed in Races, are factored into combats a little differently than normal monsters or monsters with class levels. A creature that possesses class levels, but does not have any racial Hit Dice, is factored in as a creature with a CR equal to its class levels –1. A creature that only possesses non-player class levels (such as a warrior or adept) is factored in as a creature with a CR equal to its class levels –2. If this reduction would reduce a creature's CR to below 1, its CR drops one step on the following progression for each step below 1 this reduction would make: 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/6, 1/8.

And on Gear.

CRB wrote:

NPC Gear Adjustments: You can significantly increase or decrease the power level of an NPC with class levels by adjusting the NPC's gear. The combined value of an NPC's gear is given in Creating NPCs on Table: NPC Gear. A classed NPC encountered with no gear should have his CR reduced by 1 (provided that loss of gear actually hampers the NPC), while a classed NPC that instead has gear equivalent to that of a PC (as listed on Table: Character Wealth by Level) has a CR of 1 higher than his actual CR. Be careful awarding NPCs this extra gear, though—especially at high levels, where you can blow out your entire adventure's treasure budget in one fell swoop!

PRD Link to Above

As for the 20 point build, I didn't know that one. That in a rulebook somewhere or accepted wisdom?

Shadow Lodge

If I understand the rule system correctly.

PC Classes result to Level - 1 CR.
If you though equip them as PCs would be that is a +1.

So yes given what you are describing it is Level = CR.

Shadow Lodge

Hello,

For an upcoming game I'm trying to apply the Skeletal Champion Template to a NPC Lvl 3 Human Ranger (as part of an adventuring crew that got on the wrong side of an NPC Mage).

I've been using the Skeletal Champion - Lvl 1 Warrior in the Bestiary as a guide, as well as using HeroLab.

I think I have the basics, but confused on a couple of things that aren't syncing with herolab. Trying to understand if HeroLab is giving me the right numbers and my understanding is wrong, or if herolab is wrong and my understanding is right.

Here are my questions.
1 - Am I calculating the following saves correctly. The HD I'm assuming is the 2 Racial HD the Skeletal Champion template says to give if their are no racial HD.
Fort - [Template 1/3 HD * 2HD (+2/3)] + [Class (+3)] + [Attribute Con NA] = +3 (with rounding)

Ref - [Template 1/3 HD * 2HD (+2/3)] + [Class (+3)] + [Attribute Dex 19 (+4)] = +8 (with rounding)

Will - [Template 1/2 HD * 2HD + 2 (3)] + [Class (+1)] + [Attribute Wis 13 (+1)] = +5

2 - On CR if I'm figuring this right it should be CR 3 with rounding.
Racial HD (1) - CR 1/3
Skeletal Champion Template - CR +1
Class Levels (Lvl 3 with NPC Gear) - CR 2

3 - Finally (and it's a stupid question) on the Skeleton Champion Warrior example from bestiary, can someone explain where the +3 in the Hit points calculation come from and how they got 2d8 + 1d10 + 3 to come out to 17? I know it has something to do with the average value of the dice.

Thanks for the help.

Shadow Lodge

Looks like you missed some actually.
I'm putting it in spoilers so you can decide if you should look or tell your GM to look

Encounters - Spoiler:

Ranger in house - Did you get both the Kill & the story award

Goblins - Did you get the goblin story award?

Soggy River Monster isn't listed.

Dire Rats & Skitterfoot aren't listed.

Giant Amoeba in cave isn't listed.

Here is my record of all the encounters with the XP set for 4.

Volorog - 150
Warden Story Award - 150
Goblins - 525
Goblin Chief - 150
Goblin Story Award - 200
Soggy River Monster - 150
Dire Rats - 105
Skitterfoot - 150
(Shipwreck) Human Skeleton - 105
Giant Spider - 100
Giant Amoeba - 100
Human Skeletons - 600
Tsutamu - 200
Adv1 Story Award - 300

Total: 2985 xp

Shadow Lodge

Nope the AP does not assume random encounters.

Jade Regent assumes 4 characters using Medium progression.

Did you guys hit every encounter (not random ones) in the swamp?

I know for my 4 person table I used the Chart I referenced above and divided the Story awards by 4 and it came out fine.

Again don't divide by 4 (or 5) as some of the lower CR monsters award more XP than if you divided.

Shadow Lodge

Also running Jade Regent right now (just finished Book 1) so maybe I can help.

First APs are designed with 4 players in mind.

That being said if you are using the CR Chart: http://paizo.com/PRD/gamemastering.html

It shows you should be awarding the same XP per player for a 4.
Are you dividing by 5 or using the chart where it shows 4 & 5 players?

Shadow Lodge

Needs a lot more information on the site, and not blurbs but screenshots, examples, etc.

I do a lot of work in the IT field and the site looks like something that promises everything but does not back any of it up. (Seen a lot of Vendor sites like that). My first reaction was to skim and ignore.

Now that being said I have a feeling from your previous post you guys are actually putting some guts on it, and that is cool but the site does not convey that information. At least it does not convey it to me.
