This counter grants the disciple a +2 insight bonus to a single saving throw. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Shards of Iron Strike Discipline: Broken Blade (Strike); Level: 1 Initiation Action: 1 standard action Range: Melee attack Target: One creature Duration: Instant DESCRIPTION By mimicking the speed and piercing power of the legendary shattered blade of the founder of this discipline, the disciple makes a hard jabbing strike at his opponent's vulnerable spots for maximum pain. The initiator makes an attack against his target foe and if successful, the target is staggered for one round in addition to normal damage. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Swift Claws Discipline: Thrashing Dragon (Strike); Level: 1 Initiation Action: 1 standard action Range: Melee attack Target: One creature Duration: Instant DESCRIPTION The Thrashing Dragon disciple's skill with his dual weapons allows him to strike with practiced speed and alacrity, allowing him to make an attack with two wielded weapons (or unarmed strikes), using the same attack action. Creatures with more than two arms may still only strike with two wielded weapons. --------------------------------------------------------------- Pugilist Stance Discipline: Broken Blade (Stance); Level: 1 Initiation Action: 1 swift action Range: Personal Target: You Duration: Stance DESCRIPTION By adopting a powerful kickboxing stance, the initiator positions himself for lightning fast, potent strikes with his hands and feet. While in this stance, unarmed or discipline weapon strikes inflict an additional 1d6 points of damage. --------------------------------------------------------------- Pommel Smash Discipline: Broken Blade (Strike); Level: 1 Initiation Action: 1 standard action Range: Melee attack Target: One creature Duration: Instant DESCRIPTION When watching a Broken Blade fighter work his art, most watch for the fists and feet. The disciple knows this, and surprises his foe, catching him unaware. The disciple makes a surprise elbow strike to the foe that leaves them reeling. The initiator makes an unarmed attack against the target's flat-footed armor class, and the blow inflicts 1d6 points of additional damage. Creatures immune to sneak attacks and critical hits are unaffected by this extra damage. --------------------------------------------------------------- story:
It all began several generations ago when many Tien fled to this part of the world (this is why Amieko and her family are here as well as the now infamous Kasuri's) In any event, Luke Kawaii Caine, Luke ancestors, Chang family were political assassins (back in the day) but (in short) were forced out of the homeland, Minkai, with the change of power. eventually the assassin part faded away, and now the family have taken up residence in Rickety’s Squibs, becoming fishermen, and workers for overhauling ships; At least as far as anyone knows. The Chang family has changed over the generations and currently the Family is no longer pure Tien. The last pure Tien blood relative having passed 10 years ago. Luke’s father, Kwai Chang, insisted Luke take a more locally traditional surname to better “fit in”, but his mixed heritage still would occasionally cause problems. Hidden away in the woods is a small along the only road leading into the woods around Rickety’s Squibs lies a "compound" a training ground for warriors or wanna be pirates. This place is where Luke Kawaii Caine’s family resides and despite no longer being assassins, they still practice and train in the secret martial styles that were employed in ages past. Very few can get entrance to the school and fewer still even make it through the training. (Currently there are only 6 students outside of family.) Life was going fine for Luke; he was doing well fishing and learned quite a bit with all the various “pirates” coming by to refit captured ships. The whole place was filled with secrets. Luke had a knack for sea life. He handles the fishing boats with incredible ease, it seemed he knew every inch of any vessel that entered Squibs’ for “re-fit” As far as anyone in Rickety’s Squibs knew, the Caine brothers were excellent fishermen and quite handy to have around when there was ship refitting to be done. Nobody bothered them, and they bothered nobody. Things started to go downhill when one day Luke was emptying his fishing net, and among some of the fish was a small stone talisman. Unsure what it was, but believing it to be magical, Luke cleaned it up and took it home. The next few nights, thing started happening. Strange noises, a student goes missing, it seemed as though the compound was haunted. Then the night of the full moon, while Luke was lying in bed, the stone talisman began to glow. Curious about what he saw, he grabbed the talisman. And it seared a mark into his hand. Not wanting to be suspected of being cursed, Luke always wore black leather gloves to hide the mark. And to this day the mark still slightly impairs the movement of his fingers of his left hand. OK now where do I come in and how did I end up in port peril? Despite no longer practicing the art of assassination, there is even something even more hidden. Kwai Chang was still taking jobs if the cause was good and the money was there. One day Kwai Chang was approached by a sailor looking to eliminate a rival; one that has been plaguing his shipping routes for far too long. Kwai Chang considered the offer and with some reservation decided to take the job. Nobody really knows the real reason why. And to Luke, his father simply went away to Port Peril to meet some old friends. He completed the mission and returned home, but several weeks later a ship pulls in to Rickety’s Squibs, The Wormwood. It was one of Capt Harrigan's officers that Kwai Chang eliminated, and somehow Captain Harrigan had managed to track the killer (Kwai Chang) back to Squibs. That fateful day, I was out fishing; the only thing he remembers seeing, was the Wormwood leaving Squibs as he was returning home. It was during that time that Harrigan and his men killed Kwai Chang and took Luke’s brother, Daniel Caine, captive. Luke has no idea about the assassination. In a desperate search to find this Captain Harrigan; Luke travel to Port Peril. But a half-Tien man in that city and asking too many questions leads to trouble and Luke soon finds himself fighting to survive in Port Peril. It’s been weeks now, stuck in Port peril, with no leads, and nothing to show for his efforts, he has however discovered that at least he can fight to make some coin. It seems that his fighting style is unique enough to throw off opponents. Luke still searches for Harrigan and the Wormwood. Then one night he discovers the wormwood might be making berth in Port peril. So in an effort to find out more, he heads to the formidably maid to learn what he can. Asking too many questions and getting shanghaied by the very man he seeks to destroy. It’s up to you what happened to his brother, probably best he not be on the wormwood he could be dead, or he could be somewhere else (that is a hook for you to use.) Now character wise.... Luke knows the wormwood on sight but not its crew nor Harrigan. He only knows Harrigan's name. He has a vendetta against him for killing his father and taking his brother.
some item descriptions:
Rope Dart This deceptively complex weapon appears as nothing more than a 12-foot rope with a 6-inch-long, conical metal spike. Benefit: Similar to a meteor hammer, a rope dart can be whirled at great speeds, then aimed to strike and pierce opponents with great reach. Once it strikes, the wielder can quickly retrieve the weapon with a tug of the rope.
