Livana was raised on the outskirts of Northlight by her father, an herbalist and cleric of Tolc. She had a relatively normal childhood but always felt like there was something not quite right. She had never known her mother, and her father would not speak to her about that side of the family at all. Added to this was the fact that their hut on the edge of the village never hosted guests and the other adults seemed to avoid the two of them despite never being openly hostile. Although what talk she overheard made this seem to be based on her father's actions some time in the past, it affected her as well due to how close the two of them were. As it continued, the two of them ended up living almost alone, only dealing with their neighbors in necessary social situations such as during shopping or village-wide events. Her father used all of his free time to educate her in his religion, profession, and interests, including trips to learn about the surrounding area. As she reached her teens her appearance began to change. Her skin darkened until it seemed tan year round, and her eyes darkened as well, but her hair grew lighter until it was almost white. The frigid winters ceased bothering her and she began to wear less furs, going out in light indoor clothing no matter what the weather. As these changes occurred, even her father began to draw away from her as if she reminded him of some past trauma. Terrified of losing her relationship with the one man she trusted and loved, she began spending more time alone in the wild in order to provide him with peace, picking herbs, befriending animals, approaching and interacting with some of the more unusual fey or giant creatures that lived in the area. The farther her father drew away from her and into himself, the more self-sufficient she became. She spent her time roaming the snowfields with her favorite fox, occasionally wandering into the village to try and get to know some of the other young men and women. One night she returned home to find her father drunk and mumbling to himself, so far gone that he did not realize she was there. He spoke in whispers and half-sentences but she was able to pick out enough to discover that there was something different about her mother, that she still lived, and that her father and the rest of the village were terrified of her returning. Livana finally had some understanding of both why she was different, why her family was avoided, as well as why she sometimes had the feeling that someone was calling to her from a distance. She decided that no matter how much she loved her father, despite the fact that she would do anything that he asked in order to keep him close, the best thing she could do was to search for her mother. Family was the only comforting thing she knew, and the need to have a relationship with both of her parents was of utmost importance. Her absent mother became as important to her as her father, and she resolved to take the opportunity to travel as soon as she could do so safely in order to search her out.
