True; maybe even if we don't end up hearing back from Fiendish we can try a new game with all of us at some point. Still not something I'm able to commit to doing right this moment but I'll definitely keep it mind as I work on improving as a GM :)

Inactive

That's half definitely for a hiatus, so that will work for me as well.

Inactive

As much as I hate to say it, it's been a little over two months now since we've heard anything from Fiendish. I still really, really hope that everything is okay and that she'll return to the forums at some point but I think we're at a point where we'll need to be deciding what to do with the game in the meantime. I know Flynn said he might be able to take over running and I'm still amenable to that if he's still willing and able to do it. My own plate is too full right now to consider taking over a longer-term game as a GM or I would've made a similar offer.

Another option, much as I hate to say it, is that we could let the game go on hiatus until either Fiendish returns or one of us finds the time to pick it up and give it some sort of finish. Recruiting a GM from outside the group is another option but I'm not sure how willing someone would be to take over a homebrew with no access to any of the notes and other world building that Fiendish did in the background.

Inactive

Sounds like a plan to me, Flynn. Taking over myself isn't something that I can really feasibly do at this point in time so I'm thankful that you're willing to do so if need be.

Inactive

Although I'm loathe to write Fiendish off just yet, I wouldn't be averse to you picking this up if it comes down to it. I have no idea what sort of things/ending Fiendish had in mind for the game but I'd definitely love to have some sort of conclusion to our story and (having been playing in one of your Carrion Crown games) I feel confident that you could get us there :)

Inactive

Happy New Year, guys! :)

Inactive

Merry Christmas/Holidays/Monday everyone! :)

Inactive

Afraid I haven't either :(

Inactive

Hey, has anyone heard anything from Fiendish? I know work sometimes keeps her busy and it's holiday season and all but I still worry a little, especially since she's usually not quiet this long.

Inactive

Checking in, hoping all is well with everyone - especially Fiendish!

Lenneth folds her arms across her chest and returns Lilith's frown. "I'm not saying that it shouldn't be checked out, just that we shouldn't put all our eggs in one basket," she points out. "Checking for an air route is fine but we need to still look around for other ways in too."

Inactive

"We have no way of knowing just what manner of dead are down there," Lenneth points out. "Maybe they're all just groaners and bones but there could be stronger ones down there too! And we've seen that sometimes the dead come back with most of their wits and tricks still intact; who's to say that there aren't any down there that could shoot us down or take to the air themselves?"

Inactive

"Every groaner and corpse within a hundred miles must be down there," Lenneth whispers, her jaw slightly agape at the sight. "Feldus is right, we can't ever hope to sneak our way past all of them...especially if there's cultists down there too..." she continues, trying not to let herself fall into despair. Here they were, so close, and now the fortress may as well have lay on the far side of the moon. "V-Valex...is Feldus right? Do you think there'd be another way inside?"

Inactive

For those celebrating, Happy Thanksgiving! And Happy Thursday to everyone else :)

Inactive

"The shelter idea sounds like a good one," Lenneth agrees. "Maybe Lilith can rig something up for us again like she did that one night."

The next morning, Lenneth dutifully sets about doing what she can to forage and scavenge for food during the group's journey...

Using Lenn's Worldly trait to roll twice and take the better result, such as it is...

Inactive

Hey guys, I'm working all day tomorrow and then immediately coming home and playing in my group's home game; I *might* be able to sneak in a post but otherwise please just bot me as needed and I'll catch up on Tuesday. Thanks!

Inactive

"If there even are any grasslands left," Lenneth points out. "All we've seen so far has been desert and rocks and scrubland."

Inactive

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Lenneth says nothing but quickly crowds around Valex and the map case, attempting to do what she can to memorize bits of the writing before the entire thing crumbles to dust.

Defense measure...Valex said something about that earlier, didn't he?

Inactive

I'm going to be out of town tomorrow and Tuesday so my posting might be a little limited; I'll have my laptop with me and I'll try to check in in the evenings once we settle in at the hotel for the night.

Inactive

Lenneth laughs at Aura's comment, happy to find her in somewhat-good spirits despite all that's happened. "All plus a new friend," she smiles at Echoes. "I think he...she?...will be a big help to us!"

When Valex offers the sealed box, she looks at it with a mixture of curiosity and wariness. "Do you think opening it is going to blast us with positive energy again?"

Inactive

"Yes, that should work," Lenneth agrees. "Just enough shelter from the wind and any rain but still open enough to not feel hemmed in."

Inactive

"Well I didn't mean we should rest here right now," Lenneth responds, slightly annoyed. "I meant that this is a place that could be used as a hideout, a stop-over place to rest, if it weren't for the demon down there. Definitely not as a place to settle though; there's no water or anything else nearby even if the demon weren't an issue."

She pauses. "But maybe it's because I don't feel any safer under open skies," she adds, thinking back on the many, many nights spent in the wilderness, hoping and praying that nothing stumbled upon them in the dark - or that if it did, someone would spot or hear it in time.

Inactive

"I agree," Lenneth nods at Lilith's suggestion. "Too bad...this place could make for a decent place to rest if it weren't for that."

Inactive

Lenneth carefully takes the armor and looks at it before sliding it on over her clothes. She'd never worn armor in her life and she marvels at how natural it now felt to have it encasing her.

"Well, this will certainly come in handy," she laughs before looking around at the rest. "Is that everything, you think? If it is, we should probably get back to the surface."

Inactive

Oracles are fun because you can build them to fill a variety of different roles depending on your mystery/revelations. Sorcerers are less flexible on that front but I'm a sucker for spontaneous casting!

Inactive

That sounds good to me!

*edit* No worries Lilith, I know it was kind of a late-game change but I've been enjoying it! Then again, oracles and sorcerers are kind of my jam anyway :)

Inactive

Lenneth can actually wear medium armor now as an oracle so she certainly could use the armor if Flynn doesn't want it :)

Inactive

"WHAT?" Lenneth says, shaking her head as the ringing persists in her ears though thankfully the flash of light has faded. "YOU NEED A LIGHT!? THAT WASN'T ENOUGH FOR YOU?"

After a few more moments though, the ringing finally begins to subside as well. "Oh no, you were asking if we're alright," Lenneth says, staring at the revealed items with wonder. "I'm fine...I feel great, actually! What was that flash of light?"

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

Inactive

Happy Halloween! Have fun, stay safe, and watch out for spooks! :D

Inactive

"Hey hey hey, hold on a second," Lenneth pipes up, quickly approaching Valex to give him an encouraging pat on the shoulder. "Um...I'm not sure how exactly, but I think that might help a little..." she offers lamely.
______

Boom, Guidance!

Inactive

Lenneth takes some defensive cover as they return to the cache, but does keep her eyes open in case Valex needs some help or something else happens.

Inactive

For a moment, Lenneth considers the demon's offer. If the creature had been summoned after the Harvest somehow, then perhaps other summonings were still possible. Maybe the world wasn't entirely cut off after all. But then she catches herself.

What good would knowing the answer do? If the gods can't, or won't, reverse what's been done, then what makes you think that you could do it? And dealing with dark powers is how the world got into this state in the first place. No need to make it worse.

"Right. Best not to listen," she agrees quietly and turns to follow the others back outside the room.

Inactive

Kn. Planes (Nabasu Demon?): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

"Hey wait...how is summoning even possible?" Lenneth whispers, looking perplexed. "When the veil came down, didn't it cut off all contact across all the realms - not just with the gods?"

"I mean, I suppose it might've been summoned before the Harvest but still...something doesn't seem right about any of this."

Inactive

"Wait, what? The undead are bad enough, now you're telling me we might be dealing with a demon running loose!?" Lenneth hisses.

Inactive

"There, along the far wall," Lenneth whispers, trying not to force the person...or thing...to bolt by pointing it out. "I can just barely see it."

Inactive

Welcome back! :)

Inactive

Safe travels! :)

Inactive

Once, there might've been a time when the unnatural darkness that loomed before them would have frightened Lenneth. But now with her vision now empowered by her dark gift, she stares into the blackness unafraid.

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
______

Thanks to her Pierce the Shadows revelation, Lenneth has darkvision out to 60 feet.

Inactive

"And too bad gold is such a soft metal - not even worth melting down to try and make something out of it," Lenneth adds with a slight chuckle. "Hopefully that acid will do the trick on the door, though - easier than trying to break it down."

Inactive

"Okay, then we look around some more," Lenneth responds softly. "Just be cautious, okay? All of you," she says, looking at Feldus as well as Flynn and Melo as they prepare to try breaking the door.

Inactive

"If we think we can dispel or disarm it somehow then I think we should try," Lenneth agrees. "Or at least have a closer look at it first and then decide if we want to try and disarm it now or try looking around more."
______

Back in the room where the weird ritual thing was taking place - were there any other obvious entrances or exits that we saw?

Inactive

Lenneth watches with a mixture of curiosity and caution as Valex examines the wall, loathe to interrupt or interfere in business that he knows much more about than the rest of them do.

"I agree...just say the word if there's something one of us needs to do," she nods.

Inactive

"Yuck," Lenneth wrinkles her nose in disgust as she explains what the kukri does. "I'm not surprised to find an agent of the Way carrying something like this around. At least the pouch and the supplies inside it are useful. And the damned fireball beads, too," she grumbles, rubbing at her arm where a burn had been not too long ago.

Inactive

"Another cache? Good, then hopefully coming down here will have been worthwhile after all," Lenneth agrees. As Feldus begins searching the corpse, she works on detecting if there are any additional magical auras - on the corpse or elsewhere in the vicinity.
______

Casting Detect Magic and looking around!

Inactive

"Not a groaner," Lenneth breathes as blood pools under the form. She really wasn't sure if that was better or worse.

Carefully, she edges up to the body and nudges it with her foot.

Inactive

With their elusive foe now illuminated and possibly cornered, Lenneth aims to make sure that he, she, they, whatever, stays put. Calling upon her shadow magic, she attempts to pin the robed figure's very shadow to floor and anchor it in place.
______

Lenneth casts Shadow Trap; DC 14 Will save or be entangled!

Inactive

Lenneth spins around and begins casting, hoping she can catch whatever it is before it flees again...

Sound Burst (Sonic): 1d8 ⇒ 4
______

If she can do it without tagging anyone else, Lenn casts Sound Burst in the area Echoes snapped at; DC 15 Fort save or be stunned for a round.

Inactive

"This is getting old in a hurry," Lenneth fumes as their invisible foe continues to elude them.

But if we can find them, then we've won. They wouldn't go to all this trouble hiding if they thought they could challenge us directly.

As she looks around though, another thought rears its ugly head.

Unless they're trying to wear us down, first...

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

Inactive

"She's right, whatever it was rode the lightning and zipped out that door!" Lenneth agrees as she dismisses the ghostly chains and hurries to follow after the others.

Inactive

With one creature destroyed and another held firmly in place, Lenneth directs all three of her summoned chains to continue pummeling the undead that she managed to bring to the ground.

Barbed Chain #1 vs. Figure #1: 1d20 + 5 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 3 = 25
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Barbed Chain #2 vs. Figure #1: 1d20 + 5 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 3 = 25
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Barbed Chain #3 vs. Figure #1: 1d20 + 5 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 3 = 25
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

"What was that!?" she snarls, indicating the flash of lightning.

Wow, I swear there aren't any hax on my end for those rolls!
