I very much doubt we'll see as much PvP in PFO as there is in Darkfall: Unholy Wars. I remember Darkfall, the first one, because I was quite interested in it but what killed it for me was the seemingly complete focus on PvP over everything else of the community.

The two things I think will mark the difference between Darkfall and Pathfinder Online is mainly the community as has been seen so far on these forums and the fact that PKs in Darkfall do not risk anything.

I detest PVP for several reasons, but just to touch on a couple of reasons :

1)On the MMO I previously played the PVP jerks would go out of their way to ruin other people's gaming experience: i.e. killing quest givers or merchants when I(or someone, not just me) would go to turn in a quest or deal with the merchants. They received no XP for this, and no in game reward, they just did it to be jerks and ruin other peoples gaming experience.

2) I am not really a competitive person, and I have nothing to prove to anyone else, so it annoys me to see or hear someone lording over someone else they think they are better than, just because they can beat them in PVP. I play games to have fun, and PVP sucks the fun out of any game for me.

As I said before I know I am in the minority here, but I do hope that eventually there will be some form of Pathfinder Video Game(Online or otherwise) that does not incorporate PVP.

Most MMOs give a free card regarding those actions or even reward it. As it sounds right now, PFO is going to penalize those who act in that way with alignment and reputation hits and various flags.

I have been looking forward to seeing how PFO would work, but more and more i see how heavy it sounds into PVP. I stopped playing a certain other MMO because of the focus it had on PVP. I absolutely detest PVP.

So, my question to those in charge of making this game ... Is there any possibility that you could create at least one server with no PVP aspect? I realize I am in the minority on this issue, but I would really like to play PFO, but will not if it is as PVP heavy as it sounds.

I have to ask. Why do you detest PvP? What games have you experienced PvP in?

Personally I find PvP to be a very different experience when you compare a sandbox game to a themepark game. PvP in a game with murder counts or alignment/reputation is very likely to demand a greater commitment to the PvP then a themepark game where you can still go back to town and rest between your killing sprees without a worry about anyone being able to get revenge.

Having to take friendly fire into consideration is always my favorite part of AoE. AoE attacks are meant to be situational and the situation where your fighters are in melee might not be the right one.

Killing someone with careless AoE application should still be an offense, though you could always ask for forgiveness by your victim. I don't really see this as a problem, I'm pretty sure all roles will have plenty of non-AoE options too if there are other people present that might get hit.

No reputation or alignment hit on accidentally killing a stealthed character might turn out very griefable if people can see where you stealthed. Or somehow track you. Use the system to have a tracking friend point people out to you so you can attack them with an AoE without any penalty.

I do think something like this would diminish the open world feeling of the game and the politics in the PvP community of the game.

My initial thoughts is simply a roguelike elf who calls noone master and is noones master. But I kind of just want to explore and see what people make in this sandbox world.

The way I think food and drinks should be handled is simply with a passive buff to your recovery times while you are fed and hydrated. I don't really like the idea of sitting down after fights to eat yet another meal. I've also played games where food was a requirement and the alternative was death, while it is certainly a fun system at times it can also get extremely frustrating if you're for any reason unable to procure food.

Perhaps staying fed and hydrated might be a requirement for certain actions, I recall there was talk about roads improving travel speeds? If there is food, it could be a requirement to be well fed and hydrated to benefit from the increased speed. Someone dehydrated and very hungry is probably not going to have the energy for quick travels.

I'd love to hear more about the natural resources in the game, specifically about their availability and scarcity. Will certain hexes be more abundant in some while lacking others? I'm kind of imagining a possibility for not just players trading, but settlements importing and exporting resources.

I encounter enough racisim in the real world, I don't care to see it in my gaming, thanks.

You should stay away from Elves in Pathfinder then, reading Elves of Golarion it felt like they really like their racism. They do mention a few times that only pure elves are allowed in Kyonin beyond one city on the border.

They pretty much said that once they get going with the kick starter rewards, the fulfillment process get rolling and they can recover from that, then they will work out a program where other people can contribute to PFO, and be able to get into EE. I would look for more info toward the middle to end of March or early April based on the rough timeline they gave when this question was brought up after the KS ended.

I've got a few people interested as well which is why I remember what they said :)

That sounds very positive. I didn't hear about this game until after the kickstarter was done. I had just dismissed it as another WoW themepark without reading when first I heard too, how wrong was I? Anyway, now that I've read up more I can't wait for it... It brings back so many memories from my UO days to read about these wonderful features. I will stay glued to their blog so I don't miss this chance to get into EE. :)

In my opinion simply having a character ID that is only visible to friends should be enough to correctly identify them without the need for unique display names. Think it would solve the problem of finding a name when you join a game after a year or more, especially if GW is indeed thinking about having just one big server.
