About Kurth "the Fist" Chandler
Appearance:
Over six feet tall, Kurth has the blocky musculature and blunt features of an ox - if you could find an ox that's been punched in the face a few hundred times. Pale blue eyes gaze out from between a scarred brow and crooked nose. His black hair is shaggy and poorly-cut and thick stubble highlights a lattice-work of smaller scars on his jaw and lips.
Background:
Born into a poor but loving family of candlemakers in Oppara, Kurth's young life took a turn for the worse after his father was run down by a drunken noble. Destitute, his mother was forced onto the streets before dying of the pox. Already a large boy, Kurth fell in with a street gang, later making a living as a bouncer, leg-breaker and prize fighter. By 20 he was in prison for the third time. It was there that he met Shao-Sing, a drug-addled Tian thief who had once trained as a priest. Much of the philosophy the old man shared was difficult for Kurth to grasp - an uneducated peasant, he'd been kicked in the head more times than he'd cracked a book - but parts of it sunk in. Kurth especially liked the poetry Shao-Sing made up in their cell. All it seemed to require was counting syllables - five, then seven, then five again - and Kurth still had all his fingers.
Shao-Sing didn't make it out of the prison, his life cut short by a shank in the neck. But Kurth did, vowing with his first breath as a free man that he'd do something more with his life. Save people, maybe even a princess. Donate money to the poor, or at least buy drinks at the tavern. After digging up an old stash of Shao-Sing's, he bought some armor and weapons that seemed suitable for a hero and headed north, looking for adventure.
