About Ket Han
Appearance:
Ket Han is a bizarre study in contrasts. His skin is a deep shade, somewhere on the edge of black and grey and blue, while his hair is somewhere between white, silver, and blonde. Lacking the horns of most Tieflings, he makes up for it in the tail that peeks out from beneath his robes. When he smiles, the look is warm, although his teeth reflect in a way that makes the smile more predatory than comforting.
Ket stands taller than most humans with nearly Elven proportions and long features, although no Elf would think his lean, corded muscle at all elegant. His garb is always clean, and he seems to take care to always look his best and present well, as if a great deal depended on the impressions that he made.
Personality:
Ket takes pains to make sure that people have a good impression of him, almost as if the good impressions of people are something that he needs to be sure of, and as if he needs them for something. He is courteous to those he meets, and he makes an effort to speak without giving offense to those he perceives as being in positions of power. When his heritage is insulted, however, he can be quick to anger and to draw blade. He does not tolerate any slurs against his race and brethren.
Backstory:
Ket Han wasn't always a Tiefling. At least, he wasn't always obviously a Tiefling. When he was born, he was a fairly normal looking human baby, albeit a trifle darker than expected by his Garundi parents. He grew up in their trade caravan, making the trip across the desert to Thuvia and back to Osirion. He learned a great deal about trade during those years, and about reading people of all sorts. One thing he learned to love was honest haggling, where both parties were equal, and the only question was the price.
When Ket reached that age boys get to where voices change, hair grows, and they get significantly taller, several things happened that shocked his parents. His hair, which had to that age been black as pitch, went a platinum grey over the course of two nights. His skin darkened further to a strange slate color between black and grey and blue. His eyes lightened from a dark coffee color to silvery, and they almost seemed to shine. A tail suddenly popped up one night.
All these changes made it clear that Ket was no normal human child. As he was going through these changes, and in theory becoming a man, the way the members of the caravan treated him changed drastically. He became feared by some, reviled by others. Even his parents began to treat him differently, as if he was something other that they didn't want any part of. Several years later, he left the caravan to make his own way in the world.
In his travels, he put to use his skills as a negotiator, tradesman, and all around haggler. Or he tried to. Many folks refused to work with him because of what he was. Ket saw how other Tieflings were treated, too, and so was born in him a resolve. He would find a way to make his people, his true people, equal in the eyes of others. It would take power, and it would take connections, but he would see it happen.
Ket changed the way he presented himself, occasionally disguising what he was in order to get the jobs he needed to build his reputation as a skilled mediator. As his contacts grew and his abilities began to show, he put out feelers towards his goal of developing a place where his fellow Tieflings could be equal and free, not slaves as many of them are. One day, he got a reponse to one of his inquiries. The contact strongly hinted that at the other end of the trail, the Ruby Prince was willing to discuss things if Ket proved worthy. To do so, Ket would have to serve the Ruby Prince. His first duty was to be accepted as a Pathfinder so he might be in a position to acquire information for the Prince.
Ket set out the next day for Absalom, and he has just recently been accepted at the Grand Lodge as one of the newest members of the Pathfinder Society.
