Kana is caught by surprise by the spear launching at Beryl. "This adventuring is more dangerous than I thought."

She continues to keep an eye out for more trouble. She also keeps an eye on Mosquito. That goblin is indeed going to get us in trouble.

"Perhaps Mosquito," she says to her goblin companion. "You could keep a watch over Beryl and I while Bertrum and Vrolun look ahead? I know I'd feel better with you keeping us safe in case something dangerous comes looking for us."

Kana looks between the dwarf and the half-orc unsure how best to go. "What I know of fortresses is limited, but most hidden doors hide things that the residents want to keep safe. But it may be best to leave the secrets for after we make sure that other dangers won't sneak up on us while we are looking elsewhere. I feel caution is best."

Kana turns to look around, continuing to scan for any magic auras that she can see.

Kana keeps to Bertrum's side as they follow Beryl and Mosquito. [b]"Bertrum, my friend, I am a little concerned with your plans for these pups. They are not ordinary wolves, but rather they are wargs. They are intelligent beasts, and usually quite nasty if the tales are true."

I am not sure what Kana knows about these pups. Are they wolves or wargs? And if they are wargs, what does Kana know about them?

Kana is ready to head out when the group is.

Kana would go to Shelyn's Smile again to get another scroll to replace the one used in the last fight. Then she would meet up with the group back at the Wizard's Grace.

Kana sees Vrolun walk in and greet the group. "Good morning Vrolun. I suspect it will at least be an interesting day."

Kana smiles at Mosquito. "Glad to have you along, Mosquito. I think Bertrum is right though. We may be better off waiting until the morning to return."

I updated the treasure list, and included the split of the gold coins. 4 gold each. Selling gear now actually takes a day of downtime, so I feel we should leave anything we would simply want to sell in our rooms, and head out again in the morning. Does anyone want any of the items? Mosquito, Bertrum, or Vrolun should probably take the potions. And perhaps Mosquito would want to magic bow for now, just in case.

Other than possibly splitting the gear, Kana would likely try to buy another scroll of heal to be more prepared. Then she would be ready to head out.

Kana steps forward as things are winding down and tries to catch the attention of Councilor Greta. "Excuse me councilor." she says. "If I may ask, I understand you are busy, but would the town object to us returning to the Citadel and aiding the goblins further? Their home has been invaded, and I know I would like to see about this 'dragon cult' some more. Bertrum it sounds like has his own plans to return as well. I would welcome his company."

Turning back to the group, Kana continues. "I would enjoy the company of the rest if you wish to join us."

I will update the treasure list tonight as well.

Kana walks over to the edge of the battlements and calls down to Mosquito. "Mosquito, any chance you can send up some of those goblin weapons? We want to make sure these Bumblebrashers can protect themselves while we return Calmont back to town to face justice.

My question was more about IF I should roll or if you want to do secret rolls. In the 2E game I run IRL my players appreciate the secret rolls since it allows me to come up with some wild stuff at times. It does help that one of the PCs is a charismatic story-telling gnome with bardic lore and dubious knowledge feat... So he often gets a little of the truth and a little of my imagination.

But I am fine how you are handling it, just wasn't sure at first.

Does Kana know anything about these elf-rings?

Kana nods to the goblin chief. "Yes, we are friends." she says. "Your ambassador, Warble, sent us to look into the signal fires you set. She was worried about you and I assure you, not everything wants you dead. The councilors of Breachill also had concern for you as your allies."

As Kana continues talking with Helba, she overhears the conversation between the others and Calmont. She grows concerned hearing Mosquito mentioning letting Calmont have a head start, but then Bertrum seems to handle things.

"Helba, I am Kana-Deniz. It is a pleasure to meet you.I am glad that we will be able to tell Warble that you are alive, even i temporarily uprooted. This here is my companion, Beryl. Over there is Bertrum and Vrolun. Your kinsmen, there, is Mosquito." As she introduces the group, she motions to each in turn for reference.

Kana stays to the back of the group and continues to scan the area for magical auras, trying to confirm that Calmont follows Bertrum's direction. Once she is certain that it is safe she sticks with Beryl and focuses on the goblin tribe.

Kana nods to Vrolun and follows the little warrior up the rope. Once up top, she whispers to the others. "Any chance he'll be reasonable?"

If beast still active:
Kana continues to cast her magic at the beast. The charge again builds and then discharges the electrical burst.

  • Basic Reflex save DC 16
  • Electrical Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

"Can any one see an easy way to get up to the goblins?" Kana then tries to see if she can spot a way up.

Two actions to cast Electric Arc. One action to Seek.

If the beast has fallen:
Kana breaths a sigh of relief as the beast falls. "We need to get up to the goblins quick. It sounds like Calmont is on the edge of doing something tragic to our allies."

Kana turns to Beryl. "Beryl, can you help out Bertrum? Maybe one of the potions the council was good enough to give us?" Then turning to Mosquito, "Mosq? Can you find a way up?"

Then last she turns to Vrolun and uses her scroll to heal the gnome.

2 action Heal: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

I am officially afraid to roll a d20 on here now. Too many good rolls, my luck can't hold out that long.

One change I think some people miss is that the readied action does not change initiative. Not likely a big deal with only one enemy, but figured I'd mention it.

Kana sees her friends are in trouble and raised her hand again at the beast. The charge builds again and the electricity wash over it. She reaches into her scroll case and pulls a scroll out to be ready to help her friends.

Electric Arc:
  • Basic Reflex save DC 16
  • Electricity Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

"Bertrum," she shouts. "Back off before that thing kills you."

Action Summary:
2 actions to cast Electric Arc, 1 action Interact to draw scroll of cure.

Kana looks out at the beast and gasps to herself. You wanted to see a dragon, right?

She follows Beryl out into the courtyard and then begins to speak confidently in the arcane language. As she raises her open hand to the beast, a charge can be felt building quickly. Then at the peak of the charge, waves of electricity wash over it.

Electric Arc:
  • Basic Reflex Save DC 16
  • Electricity Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

"Mosquito," Kana shouts. "See if you can keep it busy. At least until Bertrum and Vrolun can get back to their feet."

Kana nods to the group and creeps along with them, trying to remain quiet.

Kana will also try to be stealthy. Not something she is particularly good at, but she'll try.

Kana watches Mosquito's "scouting" process and then smirks at Beryl's commentary. "He seems to be enjoying himself, but perhaps we shouldn't let decisions be made in such a dizzying method."

Then as an after thought, "Then again, maybe circular logic is best when used by a goblin."

Kana nods to Beryl as the group reverse direction. "Call me Iz." she says quietly to the group. "And yes, I still think the pups would not be left alone."

Iz continues to scan the area for magic and follows the group in, trying to stick near Vrolun for some more protection.

Kana moves up with the group into the new hall. She steps more to the left, examining that portion for any auras. "I'll keep a look on our back as well to make sure no one is following."

Kana is still using Detect Magic as her focus here.

Kana follows Mosquito and Vrolun, scanning around for any signs of magic. "I would assume this is more the result of these 'dogs'." She then whispers to herself. "I can't say I find their company appealing."

Kana refreshes her concentration as she keeps an eye out for any magic auras present. She keeps up with Vrolun and approaches the door behind Bertrum and Mosquito.

Kana will continue to scan with Detect Magic.

I cleared everything and I am still only seeing the council room from the fire. Did we change to a different map?

Kana-Deniz follows the group around, keeping an eye out for any magic auras, though with the limited range of her spell she cannot see much.

"I feel that keeping monsters as pets may be dangerous." she says while the group gathers to plan. "Still if you feel they can be controlled, or at least encouraged to be helpful, then I will trust your judgement. The wolves though may be a problem. Pups usually mean a family I would think, so we should keep an eye out for the rest of a pack."

Kana looks around some more. "Perhaps before entering in unannounced we should at least check the front door?"

I'm game to take any other entrance the group chooses. As Bertrum is scouting, my vote is to follow his lead.

While the group heads out to the Citadel, Kana-Deniz keeps looking over her gear as if unsure she is comfortable with what she is doing. Well, I did come to see if I could help keep the people of Breachill safe. I just figured it would be more as a councilor.

As the group closes in on the Citadel and they begin to discuss tactics, Kana-Deniz stops fiddling and pays attention. "I can't say I have much experience with scouting, so I will leave that to those who feel confident in themselves. Bertrum, if you feel you can check it out safely, I will wait here for you."

"Once we get a closer look around, I can see what auras may be present inside. From here though I cannot sense much."

Once we get in closer Kana-Deniz will likely scan the area using Detect Magic. Unless there is something else we feel she would be better doing.

This is one aspect I really enjoy about 2E but also is one of the most odd feeling in action as a GM. I love it, but I often feel I am not handling it right. But, as you said, it's a learning process.

Yeah, no need to RP the purchase of the scroll. For story purposes, Kana-Deniz would probably go to the Dreamhouse. She's an elf, they know stuffy!

As for the stuff, I agree Beryl holding on to anything else works fine.

Kana-Deniz approached her new friends. "Since some of you are locals, perhaps you could point me to a temple from which I could purchase another scroll. If we are seeking to apprehend this Calmont, I think being prepared with extra resources would be best."

"In addition, Beryl did mention speaking with a book dealer who may have been this young man's master. Perhaps that would be a good place to start."

Kana-Deniz's Plan:
Kana would like to purchase a scroll of heal if it is available. She would also appreciate the chance to leave some things in the inn if possible. Being only a short trip away from town there are some items she wouldn't feel necessary to take with her. I will update the profile to included stored items.

Kana-Deniz slumps on the edge of the fountain near goblin. As the group discusses she looks over at the councilor. "I came here to see if I could help out in some way. This may be more than I expected but I would be honored to help out."

She approaches the group as Mosquito cheers and plays in the fountain. "I would say that we may want to recover our strength tonight and head out in the morning. If not that, then at least a chance to find some local healers who could clear the burning in my lungs."

Updating the treasure list as well.

Kana-Deniz looks over at Mosquito and nods. "Sorry my friend," she says with a slight rasp to her voice. "It seems we have reinforcements now. Grab some buckets and see what we can do."

Feeling the effects of the smoke, Kana-Deniz reached into he belt and pulls out a vial. She drinks it and then runs to grab another bucket. She cries out as too of the councilors fall.

"Beryl, do you have enough elixirs to help them?"

Elixir of Life:
Minor: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Smoke Damage:
1d6 ⇒ 5

Action Summary:
  • 1 action to draw the minor elixir of life
  • 1 action to drink the elixir
  • 1 action to stride to the buckets

At least I don't have to edit my HP from the elixir and the damage.

I'm not sure if the math works that we have any chance to put it out. Like Beryl said, it spreads more each round than we can put out. I'm out of ideas for what else we can do. Also, my luck can hold out forever with the smoke damage rolls.

Kana-Deniz brings the bucket to the fire and tosses the water at it. Then she turns to head back to the councilor again, not sure if she should continue this fight.

"Goblin, come on and help with getting the half-orc out. We may not be able to save this building after all."

Smoke Damage:
1d6 ⇒ 3

Action Summary:
  • 1 action move 20 feet to the fire
  • 1 action to douse the flames as much as she can
  • 1 action to move back to the councilor.

Kana-Deniz runs back to one of the councilors and takes the bucket from her, then heads back towards the flames, ready to douse the area.

Kana-Deniz looks around and takes a quick count. "I think we have enough people in here to form up and make this easier. Spread out in a line and it should go easier with less running around."

Not sure if there is a check, or how best to handle it but here is the logic I think. It is 130 feet total from the southern doors to the back corner where the fire starts. We have 10 people in the room, though that number may need to drop as people begun to suffer from smoke damage. If we all spread out we should be able to cover the distance between each person and pass a bucket with 3 actions each. 1 action move, 2 action pass the bucket, 3 action move back.

Kana-Deniz sees the goblin hero stumble and cough from the smoke. She pulls a scroll from her case at her side and begins reading it aloud. The scroll begins to crumble as the magic it held takes effect causing a golden light to burst towards Mosquito. His color returns to his face as his breathing clears a little but.

Heal:
2 action Heal: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

The scroll is used and now Kana-Deniz coughs as more smoke fills her lungs.

Smoke Damage:
1d6 ⇒ 1

Action Summary:
  • 1 action to draw scroll of heal
  • 2 action cast heal from the scroll, targeting Mosquito.

Kana-Deniz curses as the fire continues to rage. "Beryl," she shouts over the roar of the flames. "I don't think I can douse it quick enough to be helpful. We got to finish the mephit now."

Hydraulic Push:
  • Ranged Spell Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
  • Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 4) = 14
  • If hit the mephit is moved 5 ft back.

As one final rush of water rushes from her hand, and then Kana-Deniz turns to go find what is happening with the townsfolk, and any water they managed to gather.

Action Summary:
  • 2 actions to case Hydraulic Push
  • 1 action to move away from the fire.

Gods I hope that does it for the mephit.

Kana-Deniz can feel the heat from the fire as it comes closer. She's not sure how effective it will be, but she's got to try something.

"I'm not sure effective it will be," she shouts back to Beryl. "But I can try."

Kana-Deniz calls out the eldritch words again and another rush of water cascades out of her, this time aimed at the fire behind the mephit. When the water is exhausted, she changes the words she is speaking and a shimmering plane appears before her acting as a shield against attack. She motions towards Bertrum and the half-orc's skin begins to ripple as it takes on a metallic scale like appearance.

Action Summary:
  • 2 actions to cast Hydraulic Push, targeting the fire behind the mephit.
  • 1 action to cast Shield, and provide +1 status bonus to Bertrum's AC for 1 round

It is a missed attack after all, I will say that that area wont burn as fast. Not sure if that helps at all.

Kana-Deniz rushes to the end of the platform and shouts a quick eldritch incantation, thrusting her hands forward towards the mephit. A high pressure blast of water rushes towards the mephit. The blast goes wide though and Kana-Deniz whispers something vulgar in elvish to herself.

Kana-Deniz is stunned by the sudden outbreak of fire in the room. Her delay is momentary though and she jumps up quickly and begins moving towards the creature that is gleefully causing the mayhem.

As she approaches a nearby councilor she shouts to try and get some help. "Councilor, we need to keep the fire from spreading!"

Action Summary:
  • One action to Stride 30 ft.
  • One action to Recall Knowledge.
  • If possible, encourage the councilor to take actions to provide support in fighting the fire. If that is not a useful action, then one action to cast shield on herself and also provide Bertrum a +1 to AC via blood magic.

I wasn't sure if you wanted to make the Recall Knowledge checks as a secret roll or have us roll. If needed I can roll after.

Kana-Deniz follows the crowd in, noting with a smile the scholarly goblin talking with the new goblin in town. I will say this about these new civilized goblins, they have an energy about then.

When Beryl asks her to join her, Kana-Deniz comes out of her thoughts. :Yes, Miss Brighthammer," she responds. "I think that may be best. I am not sure to know what to expect, but I gather with only a handful of applicants there is a good chance we may end up working together."

As they approach the front of the hall, Kana-Deniz takes a moment to look over the names of the councilors. Then she takes a seat next to Beryl and awaits the meeting to begin.

Kana-Deniz approaches the studious goblin, concerned that something is wrong. This goblin seems more adjusted to life in town. She seems troubled though.

"Pardon me Miss." Kana-Deniz says to get the goblin's attention. "Are you alright? You seem concerned for these Bramblebrashes. Are they your clan?"

Kana-Deniz tries to ease the goblin's nerves with a smile. Perhaps she just needs a friendly face to confide in.
