About Kallen Marvaine

While at first glance this diminutive woman seems middle-aged, or perhaps even older, closer inspection reveals that she may be considerably younger. Her flesh, however, is cracked and discolored in places. She keeps much of her body covered, including a pair of worn gloves which may once have been white in color. Her dark hair hangs limply about her shoulders, and the focus of her brown eyes seem to dart around the room like a restless animal.

Background
Kallen has always felt she was chosen by death. Indeed, it seemed to follow her wherever she went. Her father died in a horrific accident on his farm: he was trampled by an ox and shorn in half by a plow. Her mother died shortly thereafter of a mysterious and gruesome infection. Kallen was shuttled from one relative to another, and mysterious deaths seemed to occur wherever she went.

Through dreams and revelations, Kallen has come to know that she has been "blessed" by the Four Horsemen, agents of death and apocalypse. She does not know what this means to her, but has come to regard death (and undeath) as her lot. She regards these matters dispassionately, but is motivated by an abiding curiosity.

All her life, she has sought out the dead. She feels a compulsion to be near the lifeless shells of those who have come before. It was this compulsion which caused her to run afoul of the law and end up in prison.

Personality
Kallen's fatalistic demeanor can be off-putting to many people. Seeing life as a mere passing state, she finds the affairs of the living to be trivial matters. Still, she is motivated by any opportunities to attain new experiences or study life and death.

Beliefs
Kallen's core belief is that death is the reward of life. She does not seek to hurry it along for herself or for others, but nor does she fear it. If she has one redeeming quality, it is her disinterest in material things. She will retain tools that she feels she can use, but is known to be generous with possessions, as she knows how ephemeral they can be.
