I have done this for several of my PFS characters, but this is the first time I've tried to use the questions to flesh out an un-played character (she only has 1 xp from We Be Goblins).
1. Why are you a Pathfinder?
Let me count the ways that the Pathfinder Society is better than sailing with third-rate pirate captains out of Drenchport. First, if the Pathfinders send you out on a ship, it probably won’t fall apart half way there. And the previous owner won’t come after you because you stole it. Second, despite the stereotypes, Pathfinders are less murderous thugs than my previous employers. Also, they are less likely to be drunk on the job and trying to feel up any female member of the crew who comes within reach. I could go on . . .
2. Do you have a name and surname that is not ripped straight out of existing Earth mythology or popular culture?
Kaihalulu means “roaring sea” in Aquan. (Ok, it’s actually Hawaiian, but in my mind Hawaiian and Aquan are probably pretty similar.)
3. Which nation did you grow up in? How did this nation influence you?
I was born and raised in The Shackles; I may be the only person from Drenchport who actually likes the weather there. I looked up to the Master of Gales as a hero, and aspired to follow in his footsteps but, unfortunately, he wanted nothing to do with me until I proved my worth sailing with lesser pirate captains. Lesser pirate captains tend to be drunk idiots . . .
Living among a significant population of tengu, I did learn about Hei Feng, the Duke of Thunder, whom I have adopted as my patron deity.
4. What do you look like? What are your wearing?
It doesn’t take more than a quick look at me to realize that I am not human. My skin is a deep green, like the color of the ocean during a storm, and my hair is the color of sea foam. I tend to wear as little clothing as I can get away with, in case I end up in the water. I hope the Venture Captains will consider my request not to be sent on missions to Irrisen or other northern climes.
5. What do you love?
To stand on the deck of a ship on the rolling ocean, to stand in the middle of a storm, preferably both at the same time. Perhaps it is a morbid thought, but when I am old I intend to sail into the Eye of Abendego rather than dying in my bed.
6. What do you hate?
People who are afraid to take risks. Life is a storm, and the world is full of chaos. If you wait for calm seas then you will sit in the harbor until your hair turns grey and your teeth fall out!
7. Which other Pathfinders (PCs) do you rely on for teamwork, survival and butt-kicking?
I am new to the Pathfinders, but from my time on various pirate crews, I have learned that it is good to have several stout allies, with swords, between me and those that wish to cause me harm.
8. How does your race influence your views? Are you a stereotype of a certain race?
I suppose that being an undine has given me a predisposition to love the water, or maybe I just got that from my father, who is a pearl diver. I haven’t really been around many other undines, either growing up or in the Pathfinder Society, so I tend to stand out just by being the only one.
9. What are you afraid of? Do you have any phobias or worries?
I will not go quietly into the night! If I look back, at the end of my life, and it was calm and boring, then I will consider that to be a great failure.
10. What is your most treasured possession?
Life is about experiences, not things. You couldn’t take the things I love most away from me unless you locked me up in a dungeon where I could not see the sky.
