Joram was born into a merchant family living on the coast in Ebou Dar. Despite being merchants, he and his older brother were taught the basics of swordplay as teenagers from a blademaster friend of their father's. A couple of years ago, his brother left the house to join the children of the light. Joram however lacked the discipline, or perhaps the zealotry, for such a path and instead remained at home, helping with the family business and sneaking out to carouse at night.
It was then that the Hailene arrived, and the Seanchan took over Ebou Dar. Suspected of going back on their vows, the Garads were all but dispossessed. Angered, Joram fled the city and came to find that many of his skills were of better use to resistance groups than to the dicing tables. He joined one of these groups, led by a thief-taker named Jarir.
As the Seanchan's hold on the region tightened however, life became harder. The group was broken up and Joram found himself considering his next move. He knew that the Seanchan could never be rooted out as long as they held all the channelers, and so it was that he went in search of unlikely allies: the Aes Sedai. And so it was that he found himself in Salidar working as an agent for the ___??___ajah.
