John Westbrook is an ex-army specialist looking for a job. Any job.
He has a bad attitude about his military past, and won't talk about it casually. He is currently looking for any steady job to get him past his 'rough bit of time' and get him back on his feet.
He was an Army surveillance specialist, he specialized in getting in, getting pictures, and getting back out. And he was pretty good at his job. Unfortunately, he was also really bad about taking orders from 'inferior superiors', and REALLY bad about apologizing. In fact, one officer who wrote him up described him as having 'The personality of a water buffalo'. Which was probably a very polite way of saying that John has very few people skills. If any. He would probably be a career officer and a captain by now, at least, except he kept getting demoted faster than he could be promoted for excellent performance of his duties. Finally he back-talked one superior officer too many, and was hustled through an abbreviated court-martial and dishonorable discharge. Which really wouldn't bother John that much, except now he has no income. And the dishonorable discharge isn't helping his resume' any. He is considering answering an add for a photographer for a rag-azine that he has never read before.
Military background:
John is an surveillance specialist. He is trained in photography and electronics operations and repair. He is also pretty good at sneaking in to places to get the pictures. He handles himself well with hand to hand and small arms, but never really got the hang of rifles. He also knows how to drive heavy equipment, anything from a tractor, forklift or bulldozer to a tank.
Personality/appearance:
John is a handsome enough specimen of manhood, tall, dark, muscular, not bad looking,... until he opens his mouth. Then it quickly becomes clear that he has no people skills. The short version is that he had a rough childhood, and joined the army as soon as he legally could to get away from it. He has no patience for idiots or bullies, and he really is smarter than he looks.
John is a muscular, well-built man who is JUST beginning to show signs of running to fat from recent lack of exercise. He usually dresses in black or camo pants from the army surplus with a matching t-shirt (he is most comfortable in them) 'Dressing up' implies that he is wearing a nearly new pair of blue jeans and a golf shirt with a collar. He is almost carrying a small backpack with his laptop, camera, tool kit and a change of clothes.
John comes across as a tough guy or hard-bitten mercenary, but the truth is he's got a soft spot for the underdog or defenseless. He doesn't really believe in UFO's, Aliens, Monsters, or any of that stuff. However, in his time in the military he DID see enough 'weird stuff' to accept that there are SOMEthings out there that he might not know about, and he is perfectly willing to believe that there are probably government cover-ups going on to hide them.
