Great job!" **************************** When Mask Narsen thanks the group for their efforts, Faerinaa gives him a smile and nod. "Thank you Mask Narsen, this has been a memorable experience. You and your people have been a pleasure to work with and fight beside. I wanted to mention Lotte in particular; she and her family were most welcoming hosts, and were both hospitable and hard workers on the fort itself."

Greater Cover is a good AC bonus, but it doesn't do anything offensively. If Vinny hides, she'll get the -2 AC from the flat footed condition on her next attack, and it gives a 50% miss chance as extra defensive layer that's usually going to be stronger than the +2 AC. The downside is it has a chance to fail, where taking cover always succeeds. I was looking up Greater Cover to see if I forgot something cool about it, and realized we should be getting +2 circumstance bonuses to our hide checks from the cover. which I had forgotten about. Vinny could do both though if she wants to only throw one bomb, taking cover first for Greater Cover ends up with her at +4 AC, a +4 bonus to the stealth check, and layered defenses from the AC and hidden statuses. Faerinaa can't really do that though since she needs the actions to load her crossbow.

Also, can we do recall knowledge checks on generic zombie/skeleton resistances/weaknesses ahead of time? Its always possible we're facing some sort of non-standard zombie/skeleton setup, but I know they usually have common resistances and weaknesses. Faerinaa has fought standard ones before, and it would likely help us set up some tactical things ahead of time like Vinny's bomb loadout or targets for crossbow fire/disrupting weapons.

Looks like Tess is well situated to train the villagers for Combat. It looks like we would need two training sessions. Everyone else is qualified to work on one or more of the traps. Am I understanding this correctly that we can get the bonus from having a specialist for free, but that the NPCs are not rolling, so we'll have at most 5 attempts for things per 8 hour cycle? Can Faerinaa bring up help to finish the wall cover on one of the 8 hour shifts without paying as well? Do we need to sleep in here at all? That seems potentially important.

Something similar to a mantlet, but attached to the top of the tower. Basically a short wooden wall with arrow slits in it hinged to the top of the watchtower, so the wall usually hangs down to avoid blocking the view but can be pulled up to give cover to shoot out of. Its because he's the semi?-official head of the town, so getting him to be friendly towards the developing lodge seems like it could be good for laying a strong foundation for the lodge's relationships with the town going forward. He's definitely not pathfinder material, but we've gotten a few good prospects on that front already, so it seems like it might be worth some effort to smooth things over with the official presence so to speak.

I kind of like the idea of having Tess work away at Lumley for at least a few more tries, though I agree we definitely should not offer him a coin. We've failed to influence him a number of times, so its probably not worth it for those of us with lower diplomacy modifiers from trying him. I agree she should make another attempt to get Sylvina to take the token. Faerinaa would like to keep working on Mikkel and Lotte, and would like to go and visit the nearby ponds with Plisken on day 14. After that, she would probably like to focus on the Mayar family until they all seem helpful. If we've got 16 more days, I think we should have a good chance of turning the whole town helpful. That seems like a lot of time though; events might occur before the end, or maybe the scenario just got written with a lot of padding in case the players were unlucky. We're going to be all done with repairs in another day, so if Vinny and Khaul want to keep busy at the fort, we'll need another project. I was thinking about it, and thought maybe we could have some boards with arrow slits attached to the top of the watchtower so they could be pulled up and locked in place in the event of an attack; it would make a great sniper's nest up there. Mechanically, I'm thinking something that would let the person in the tower spend a 3-action turn raising the boards to give Greater Cover. Would that be viable GM, and what would the requirements on that be?

Late in the evening, Day 12 Late at night, Faerinaa slips out of her room and knocks furtively on Tess' door. "Hey Tess...I think I might have screwed up. Can we talk?" When Tess opens the door, Faerinaa checks over her shoulder to make sure she isn't seen before slipping into the room. She has a deeply troubled look on her face, and bites her lip nervously before speaking in a rush.
"You're really good with people Tess, I've noticed how well you've been getting to know everyone and pulling the team and the town together. Do you think you could try talking to Rakka while you're on the work crew tomorrow, see if you can figure out whether she's actually interested and just needs time to mull it over, or at least whether we've got a problem?" I know you were waiting for the results of Day 12 Tess; I *think* Rakka is still probably a good candidate, and Faerinaa didn't roll high enough. She's already helpful, but you can probably convince her to take the token if you include her as one of your influencing people.

Faerinaa and Bastian prove to be closely matched, though with very different fighting styles. "You're -- really -- good -- *oof!* -- with that shield!" Faerinaa rubs as sore spot as her leg gets clipped, as she dodges just a hair too slowly. I think you have a edge on Faerinaa in a straight fight; she's got +1 to hit/+1 damage vs. Bastian with standard attacks and can feint for flat footed status with an extra +3 damage, but the shield block is super strong and Bastian gets AC 22 vs. both attacks instead of just the primary. Slight Edit: Realized Bastian's War Flail isn't a 1 hander. I think Faerinaa definitely has a noticeable edge against him in a straight up fight while he's 2 handing.

Whew! I had a lot of fun writing this. Hopefully I didn't take too many liberties with NPCs doing stuff or joining in on things -- its a bit tricky to strike a good balance between building a story and not having to back and forth too many times in a play by post environment! Day 11 - Fireday
After her lunch break, Faerinaa will wander over to visit Vinny and her team working on the scaffolding to see how its going. "Nice work everyone! This is looking great. We're going to get this place finished in no time." "Hey Rakka, since we're beginning to wrap up the projects here, we're going to be winding down construction over the next few days. Bastian and I were thinking it might be fun and a good training opportunity to have some friendly sparring matches tomorrow. Keep the skills sharp and maybe learn some new things from each other. Would you and the other guards be interested in joining us as a little training exercise? I would love to learn some tricks from you all, and I bet we could have a few things to teach as well." Day 12 - Starday Mid morning rolls around, and Faerinaa knocks on Bastian's door, a wide smile on her face when he answers. "You ready for this Bastian? You had some slick moves when we dealt with those lizards. I'm looking forward to seeing them in action today! Let's go see how the town's defenders stack up, eh?" Faerinaa and Bastian head down to the temple, and meets up with the temple guards. Hey, Rakka, Petrus, Aasif! Thanks for joining us! I figure we can pair off, do a kind of round robin matchup kind of thing, feel each other out. Whoever doesn't have partner can watch the two matches going on, rest for their turn, and offer commentary for improvement." Training swords are handed out, and the matchups begin! Soon the air is full of the clacking of wooded blades and the dull *whump* of wood hitting armor or flesh. "Nice block Bastian!" "Good hit Rakka, but he was ready for you. Try feinting high, about...here." Faerinaa adjusts the arm up with her sword in line with her opponent's eyes. "The shield comes up but blocks his vision momentarily, opening up a short window to strike where you can catch him flat footed." "Ow! Nice hit Petrus! That one is going to leave a bruise." "Whew! You fight well Aasif, where did you learn?" As the partners exchange, Faerinaa gets a collection of bruises and a happier and happier expression. She truly enjoys a good scrap, and takes delight both in her own improvement and anything she can offer the others. "Great work everyone! Its good to see such martial skill from the village's defenders." After the sparring, Faerinaa will stay and chat, asking about where and how they learned to fight and going over the fights, both offering frank assessment and soliciting feedback about her own performance. Diplomacy +6 for Rakka, Aasif and Petrus. Will use a Hero point to reroll critical failures. Day 13 - Sunday Ahhh, Sunday! Faerinaa wakes up at dawn with a joyous heart and a slightly achey body from yesterday's exhertions. It's time for some relaxation! She prays to herself in her room, thanking Sarenrae for the experiences Faerinaa has had as a Pathfinder, for her aid in cleansing Urgathoa's chamber, for the support of Sarenrae's teachings in resisting alcohol and shiver, and for the protection and support Sarenrae gives her. Then its time for breakfast! Faerinaa heads downstairs, helps herself to a hearty helping and nods cheerfully to Khaul as she washes up her dishes next to him. After getting cleaned up, Faerinaa takes a stroll outside, breathing in the fresh air and looking up at the sunny sky. "This is going to be a good day, I can feel it!" A tree next to the inn catches her eye, and a grin breaks out across her face. Faerinaa grabs a branch and climbs up, pulling her self from branch to branch as high as they will bear her weight before nestling up against the trunk and gazing down and out across the hamlet. "This sure is a quiet little place. I wonder how it will change, when the lodge is fully operational? Who knows what this place has in store?" Faerinaa will rest there for a time, watching the leaves sway overhead in the breeze and daydreaming about the adventures that the pathfinders in the new lodge will go on. After some time, motion catches the corner of Faerinaa's eye, and she sees Mikkel through one of the windows in the inn. Confidently walking out on the tree limb with perfect balance, Faerinaa hops off the end to the roof of the inn. She leans over the edge of the roof down into the window, and waves. "Hey Mikkel, how's it going?" Faerinaa grabs the lip of the window and flips herself gracefully into the room, flicking off a bit of leaf that stuck to her armor as she does. "Today's Sunday, so I'm taking a day of rest and fun to unwind for a bit. What are you up to today, anything fun?" Faerinaa will try to chat him up to get to know him better; she'll try and tell funny stories about her life, and commiserate and offer to help him with some of his chores if he's stuck doing work. She'll try to coax his interests out of him, to see if she can figure out what he likes doing, and maybe try to do something fun with him later in the day or some other time. *GRUMBLE* As the scent of cooking wafts into the room, Faerinaa's stomach offers a reminder that its lunch time! "Thanks for the chat, Mikkel, its been fun. Hey, want to get some food?" Faerinaa will head downstairs, where Lotte is busy putting the finishing touches on the mid day meal. "Hi Lotte! Thanks so much for all of this delicious food. You know, I wanted to thank you and your sons. You've done a really great job helping us feel welcome here. Its been such a busy last few weeks, and you've kept us fed, with a clean and homey place to stay, AND helped out so much with the work at the fort. I just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate everything you've done for us. When mask Narsen comes back, I'm going to be sure to let him know what a great job you've done." Faerinaa will share the meal with Lotte and Mikkel, and try to make small talk, inquiring about how they felt about the work at the fort and the pathfinders in general. After lunch, Faerinaa will bid her hosts goodbye and head out into town. She takes a long walk around town, climbs some trees on the outskirts of town and walks out on the branches for fun, and explores the stairs and tree in the little area directly south of Sylvina's. After an hour or so of this, Faerinaa heads down to the river for a swim. She dries herself off and heads back to the inn, where she climbs up on the roof and takes a nap, drifting off watching clouds. She wakes up to the setting sun and the sound of hustle and bustle down below, and joins her companions for the evening meal. After dinner, Faerinaa commandeers some jam and toast and heads out into the evening dusk, heading to Plisken's residence and knocking on the door with the back of her knuckles. "Hi Plisken, mind if I come in? I brought snacks." Faerinaa will split her toast with him, and take some nuts if he offers them. "We're going to be here a few more weeks, but the work at the fort is wrapping up. There might be some more things that come up, but we're probably going to have more free time around town going forward, and I was wondering if you could show me around the nearby forest one of these days? I spent a little time climbing trees for fun today, but didn't go in too deep since I didn't want to get lost. I would love to visit one of those ponds you told me about too, if you wouldn't mind taking me some time?" Diplomacy +6 for Lotte, Mikkel and Plisken. We are going to start going low on funds here. We will complete everything ok, as long as no other need for money comes up we should end between 8 and 11 GP with this plan. If we want to conserve money in exchange for time, we can do the repair the barracks and shrine cleansing without hiring people, which would give us +6 more GP (and slightly increasing the odds of two successes on the scaffolding since it would be vinny+vinny instead of vinny+faerinaa) in exchange for two person-days of effort. In this case, Bastian would assist Tess (And you need to roll at least a 3 to avoid crit fail), and Faerinaa would work with Khaul with assurance to repair the barracks. What do we think is more important, the money or the time? I am leaning towards money being potentially more important, in case there are other expenses that come up. Either way, I think we probably want Vinny doing any additional scaffolding checks on day 12+, and Khaul doing all of the roof cover/watchtower construction efforts since he'll automatically succeed on those, guaranteeing its the most efficient use of funds. That also gives everyone with diplomacy opportunities to up the attitudes of the citizens. Day 12 should be good for Faerinaa and Bastian to have our sparring match with the guards.

Ideally we'll get the lodge set up physically, but also in a good position with regards to future relations with the town." "We need to finish cleansing this area and get the scaffolding up first, but I think we're on track to finish well before the end of the month. I thought it might be nice to engage the temple guards and get to know them a little better, and I thought maybe some friendly sparring would be a good way to bond as well as keep up our own skills. Would you be interested in joining in a sparring session if I tried to set one up Bastian?" I figure we could both go after improving the disposition of two or three of the guards as part of the same group activity on one of the days we're influencing people.

"Ok, that works. As long as we get rid of that desecration honoring Urgathoa, that's the important part. Let's get Vinny and make sure she's on board, then figure out what we're going to tell the town about tomorrow. I'll go get her." Faerinaa will go and get Vinny from the scaffolding crew, and ask her to stop by the underground chamber for a quick consultation.

I think there's a high chance we're going to need more than 1 day with the 5 of us + Sylvania; its a DC 21 check, we're going to have to get lucky to not need 2 days. Should still be ok though, I think.

I think that's probably fine.

The roof might not be a good spot though, depending on the angles with the walls. The other tower was not on the roof, after all, but over by the battlements kind of. We have 12 gp to spend if we hire full crews to finish the known tasks and succeed at everything, plus 40 for the ritual. 9 more gold if we build a watchtower, and more if we fail things. Its enough, but we don't know if there are any more expenses lurking. We have some time until we need to be done though, and we don't have to pay if PCs form the whole crew. As such, I think we should look at leveraging Khaul's assurance and trying to be efficient at patching 2 man-day slots with a pair of us instead of a hired crew. Khaul can guarantee he does the tower, the roof and the baracks if he leads teams over the next 6 days. For the barracks, Khaul can lead one of us to wrap it up for free, and hire teams for the rest. Vinny can continue the scaffolding, since she has the best check there, and if she gets a split success-failure, one of us can help her try to finish it up on a third day. The other three of us can do the purification ritual, and then start influencing people or get picked up to help finish the scaffolding/barracks. I think this provides a good split between time and cost. If Vinny gets at least a success+fail, that will leave us with 20 gold remaining.

Soon! Though, we're going to start running low on money, we might want Khaul to finish it up on day 11 with one of us after he finishes the roof. Faerinaa nods slowly as Sylvania discusses the ritual. "We should consecrate this space. I don't know how to consecrate a shrine to Sarenrae; Tess, do you know how to consecrate a space to Pharasma? If so, I think she would look favorably on supplanting a shrine to Urgathoa. But if not...I would be honored to assist in consecrating this to The Water Rat." I'm assuming we don't actually know the consecration rituals for our respective deities, right?

Faerinaa takes a deep breath, and nods. "Honesty, right. The same event that caused me to become a Pathfinder caused me to become a devout worshipper of Sarenrae. Her hate for undead is almost as fierce as Pharasma's." Faerinaa nods at the notes and gestures around the room. "I'm sure we'll be able to figure something out once we finish recovering and translating the last of the writings and figure out what all of this is supposed to do."

Once sealed away, Faerinaa peruses the notes taken yesterday in person, her face growing steadily more grim. "Prayers to Urgathoa...goddess of undeath, enemy of the living and all that is good. Yuck." Faerinaa twists her face in a look of disgust.

Sounds good to me! Lets do it.

I think we should have Khaul do the roof over the next two days. It is a very efficient use of his assurance to put him on tasks he can autocomplete. Likewise, I think we want Vinny on the Scaffolding, since she's got the highest crafting modifier and is most likely to make good progress there. The question then becomes what we do about the Deciphering. I figure it can go a few ways: --Have Bastian and Tess try to finish it: I think we can do that with Tess rolling, correct?
I assume more workers were not brought in because of a desire to keep the things discovered there a secret, right? If Faerinaa's not needed with the writings, she can repair the barracks to finish that off.

"Thanks Plisken, the river sounds good. I wouldn't want to get lost. Never really been the shy type, but I grew up in a harbor town and love to swim." After finishing her chat and returning back, Faerinaa will take a swim in the river around the suggested spot, and then sun herself on the bank to dry off. Quote: Bessama watches in delight as Faerinaa juggles. She asks “Can you do that with weapons? I bet if you could that would be powerful!” Faerinaa giggles. "Sort of! I could maybe juggle my dagger a bit since its weighted pretty well for it, but the Rapier and my crossbow are too heavy and unwieldy. I would never do it in combat though, you need to keep your eyes on your opponent and be ready to dodge in a fight. The last thing I would need is to miss a catch and stab my hand while someone's trying to stab me." Faerinaa will flip her sheathed dagger a few times from hand to hand and catch it. "It would look really impressive though if I was juggling a bunch of daggers, and just started chucking them at targets, wouldn't it?" Quote: She does try juggling, but doesn’t have much luck. “Guess it takes lots of practice.” Faerinaa applauds Bessama's attempts with a grin. "Oh it does, but not as much as you might think. If you like it, give it a try from time to time and you'll be surprised how fast you get the basics down."

"It is a really great organization, isn't it? I'm glad we both found our places here. Thassilon is one of those places I didn't even know existed before joining the society, its really broadened my perspective in a lot of ways." "I like the tatoos, by the way. Are they magical?"

For the deciphering secrets, noone else really seems like a good fit for interpretation except maybe Mask Lumley, but I'm not sure we want him involved. He might know stuff about religion as part of training to purge heresy or whatnot, but he's also definitely going to inform on anything interesting found there. Maybe someone who could act as a secretary or something, played as taking rubbings or copying notes and organizing the information? Maybe one of the business owners has experience doing bookkeeping and could assist with some basic scribing type of work. Perhaps Lotte or one of the smiths could fit there, or both? If you succeed, we could also just allocate two additional days player person-days instead of 1 to wrap it up and save the 3 gold. I think we're likely on track to complete repairs with enough time, and maybe having money left over from the budget will be viewed favorably.

Day 6 - Sunday
Faerinaa helps herself to a bowl of food, clearing her place and washing her dishes with Khaul when she's done. After breakfast, she climbs up onto the roof of the inn and watches the clouds for a while until the daily service lets out. When Lotte comes back, Faerinaa will make her way back down and stoll in with a happy wave. "Hi Lotte! I hope the service went well. Since today's Sunday, I'm going to be taking the day off like I said. I'm planning to head over to the fort to talk to Plisken around lunch and see if there's any good swimming holes or nature trails around here, but I thought you might like some company and help with the chores this morning since Bessama's out helping at the fort. It might be nice to get a chance to know each other better; how long have you been living here?" Faerinaa will grab a broom, a mop, or help in whatever way she's directed, and try to get to know Lotte. Faerinaa's open with her life story, but will skip the religious conversion. She'll tell stories about her other pathfinder society missions, or anecdotes from her early life, and will try to encourage Lotte to open up about her life story and work in some questions. Who is she? What caused her to want to be an innkeeper? How does she feel about her children? When lunch time gets close to coming around Faerinaa will bid her goodbye and head out to the fort. "Thanks for the talk Lotte, I'll see you later tonight." Faerinaa strolls over to the fort, whistling a bit and enjoying the day as she does. When she gets there, she goes to find Plisken working on the barracks repair. When lunchtime rolls around, she'll walk over with a wave. "Hi Plisken! I'm taking today off as a rest day, and I was thinking about maybe taking a short hike out in nature. I was wondering if you had any particularly beautiful or fun spots in the area I could see? Something good for swimming would be perfect, but I might try the river if you don't have anything in mind." Faerinaa will try to extend the conversation from there off his response, asking about his hunting, the local wildlife, and the wilderness. At some point in the discussion around hunting, Faerinaa will try to work this in: "Lotte mentioned you provide a lot of the meat for the town, should we try to schedule you some time away from the fort for hunting? Food is important after all; I know I feel a lot better after a long day of work with a hot roast or a meaty stew." If Plisken offers Faerinaa some of the nuts he's eating, first she'll try to identify them Nature Recall Knowledge: +6. If she recognizes them and they're just food, she'll thank him for the nuts and have some. If she doesn't, she'll ask him what they are and ask to clarify they're not addictive, noting she doesn't do well with addictive substances. She'll take some unless he indicates they may be. Faerinaa will also try to engage him in a discussion of the finer points of stealth, and hiding in forests vs. urban environments. Depending on how Plisken responds to the request for a local nature site suggestion, Faerinaa will spend her afternoon either visting any location he might recommend, or she'll go swimming in the river and sun herself some on the shore. When she returns in the late afternoon, she'll come inside and wave hello to Lotte again. "Hi Lotte! Hope you had a good day. I would still love to help put together something for dinner, if you don't mind. I'm fine with roasting whatever you might have, or just making some dumplings if that's easier. If you think I'll be underfoot in the kitchen though, just let me know and I'll leave you to it." If her offer is accepted, Faerinaa with work in the kitchen to help pull together some parts of dinner. She'll make a heavy boiled flour dumpling if able, and roast whatever meat may be offered. If not, she'll head up to her room and take a short nap until dinner time. After dinner, Faerinaa will ask for some bread and honey or jam to take with her, and will go try to track down Bessama. If she's doing chores, Faerinaa will try to help her out, or if she's done for the day Faerinaa will go knock on the door to her room. Either way, she'll suggest they get to know each other a little better. "Hi Bessama. I hope you don't mind, I thought it might be nice to get to know each other a little better. I've been really impressed by your work at the fort, and would love to know more about you." Faerinaa will concentrate on stories from her childhood and teenage years in Absalom, though will branch out to anecdotes from the pathfinder society if Bessama seems interested. She'll try to get Bessama to open up about how she ended up here, how she feels about Lotte and the work at the fort, and and shared experiences with missing parental figures. "My dad was an elf, some type of traveling merchant who stayed in Absalom for a time and caught my mom's eye. He ended up leaving before I was born, but my mom did her best to take care of me. She's been gone from my life for a while now too though." If the chores are done or she's in her room, Faerinaa will also offer to share her snacks, and at some point will offer to teach her the basics for 3 stone juggling. "Its kind of silly, but its fun! There was a boy back in the puddles who used to teach new recruits how as a get to know you activity. Its suprisingly enjoyable. Go on, give it a try!" She won't press though if Bessama doesn't seem interested. +6 Diplomacy for Lotte, Plisken and Bessama. Day 7 - Moonday
Feeling refreshed after her day off, Faerinaa's ready to tackle "Alright everyone! I hope you have a head for heights. Let's get this all tided up so we can get the roof patched up. Should have a great view for working at least!" Day 8 - Toilday
"Hm. This one is little more involved than what I'm used to building. I'm going to be counting on your expertise Junissa, Wilfred here. Bessama and I will follow your lead." Faerinaa does her best, but has some difficulty with the complexity of executing Junissa and Wilfred's suggestions. Crafting, Carpenter&Stonemason: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 2 = 12
