OOC - Haven't had the chance to play in PFS, yet, but this exercise has been great for developing my first character!
1. Why are you a Pathfinder?
A deep question, to be sure. I suppose that my talent for investigation and sense of familial duty have brought me to this path. My father, Jeon-Sha Soo, is a merchant. While I am gifted in the art of negotiation, the life of a merchant did not truly appeal to me. My true passion is for ferreting out the truth and penetrating deceptions. The Pathfinder Society provides a place for me to pursue my passions and bring honor to my family and homeland.
2. Do you have a name and surname that is not ripped straight out of existing Earth mythology or popular culture?
Jeon-Sha is my family name; my honorable father hails from Goka. Veirdrist is the name given me by my beloved mother, Seildria. From her, I have inherited keen elven perception and my gift for oration.
3. Which nation did you grow up in? How did this nation influence you?
I was born in Katheer, in the nation of Qadira. I lived there until I was 15 years of age, tended by my mother while my father managed his business along the trade route between Qadira and Goka. The desert was a wonderful place to grow up. I am not overly fond of cold weather.
Katheer was a fantastic place to learn from many different cultures. The abundance of learned people at the various schools made for excellent practice in reading people. The rich markets allowed me to hone my skills at bargaining and haggling.
4. What do you look like? What are your wearing? How does this vary when you’re stalking through forests, sewers, deserts or in glittering cities?
I have been told that I combine the eastern features of my honorable father with the silvery-white hair and blue eyes of my mother. My youthful years spent in the desert nation of Qadira have left me with a perpetual light tan. I tend to favor the clothing style of my father's homeland; the silk robes are both comfortable and durable. Plus, I suppose I cut a rather striking figure in black.
I do try to keep them clean and in good repair, whatever attire I happen to be in. Prestidigitation is wonderful for that.
5. What do you love? (Treasure and experience doesn’t count)
I love a good mystery, and the feeling of accomplishment when I manage to cast a light upon deceptions and diversions. That it is an honorable pursuit that brings greater status to my family is an excellent side benefit.
6. What do you hate? (Unclear and irritating darkness level rules don’t count)
Hate? Well, as I said, I'm not fond of cold weather.
In a more philosophical vein, I detest duplicity and falsehood; they bring dishonor to the family, and to the community. I also detest the selfish manipulation of the law for the sake of improving one's own station at the cost of the underclassed. While the ruling class has many rights, they also have many responsibilities. They have earned the right to live in comfort commensurate with their efforts, it is true, but the abuse of the less-fortunate breeds nothing but rebellion and lawlessness. Hunger breeds malcontents.
7. Which other Pathfinders (PCs) do you rely on for teamwork, survival and butt-kicking? Do you have a bro? a mentor? a father figure? maybe a rival?
To be honest, I'm just beginning my term with the Lantern Lodge. I haven't been on any official missions, yet. I consider the years spent with my father on his trade runs to be some of my greatest learning experiences. He is a wise man, and it is my goal to honor him through service to the Pathfinder Society via the Lantern Lodge. Perhaps I can secure a greater legacy for future generations of my family when I decide to retire from this particular path.
8. How does your race influence your views? Are you a stereotype of a certain race? How are you different from most humans/elves/gnomes/orcs/tengu?
Of the half-elves that I have encountered in my travels, few shared my particular parentage. Some conformed to the morose, self-loathing stereotype. Many cleaved to one side of their heritage more strongly than the other. I grew up with the love and respect of both of my parents, and each instilled in me parts of their outlooks. From my mother, I developed a great respect for the arts. I am a singer of some small skill thanks to her. From my father, I inherited the Tian respect for tradition and family.
9. What are you afraid of? Do you have any phobias or worries?
I don't have any irrational fears, but I definitely do not fancy snakes. I had an unpleasant childhood encounter with a careless snake merchant. Luckily, healers were close at hand, and I survived with no long-term problems. I'd rather avoid any venomous creature, if I can manage it. I'm not an Ulfen warrior, after all.
10. What is your most treasured possession?
Wealth and possessions are fine, but to become too attached to any one thing is to ask for heartache. My most treasured possessions are the skills that I have acquired, and the lessons imparted by my honorable parents. Those can never be taken from me, and can only grow more valuable with time. They will become even greater when I can share them with others. Through me, the Jeon-Sha legacy will grow.
