You can cast a spell only once a day... that is, if you only memorize it once.
Jamijanar explained well the number of spells one can memorize, let's go on this example :
the 5th level cleric depicted by Jamijanar has several options :
1st level spell :
- memorizing 4 different 1st level spell : each spell can be used only once a day. We have here a rather flexible cleric who has to cast spells wisely.
- memorizing the same spell 4 times : this spell can be used up to 4 times a day. The possibility to cast this spell several times comes at the cost of flexibility.
- everything in between : like memorizing 2 spells, each of them twice, or memorizing 3 spells (one twice, the other only once)... and so on.
2nd level spells :
- memorizing 3 different 2nd level spell : each spell can be used only once a day. Here again, we have flexibility.
- memorizin one spell 3 times : it can be cast 3 time a day.
- memorizing 1 spell once (it can be cast only once a day) and another spell twice (it can be cast twice a day)
3rd level spell :
rather straightforward, since this cleric has only one 3rd level spell slot, so only one spell to be memorized, that can be cast only once a day.
Note you CAN'T use two 1st-level spell slots to memorize a 2nd level spell ans so on...
