Male Human Rogue 1
Jaku is nowhere near this place. I thought that was clear.
Sorry if you've been waiting on me. I guess I'm out. I built a character who's one of the good guys, and I'm getting tired of having to moderate that so that I can stay with a group. I'm not calling anyone out. I'm just not interested in running with this crowd of characters (I'm sure the players are all cool).
good hunting.
Male Human Rogue 1
Might should wait to see if he tries to leave when I do. It'll probably make a difference in how that all plays out. I doubt he will, since he's got the next leg of the adventure, but you never know how the DM will play this kind of thing.
Male Human Rogue 1
"Pure motives..." Jaku says, "No, not really. I got caught up in the moment, and forgot my honor. Now that I've remembered it, I think I will look elsewhere for entertainment. I had not realized the type of people I was involved with."
He looks at Samir, "Were I you, I wouldn't trust us. Hells, were I me, I wouldn't trust us. I'm leaving. If you stay, you will be at their mercy."
He turns and heads up the pier toward town.

Male Human Rogue 1
Jaku looks around at his companions, seeming to weigh his choices and coming to a decision.
"He's right," Jaku says, moving so he can see everyone, "The map is his."
He looks at Bedu, and hold up his right hand, saying, "One, We, meaning I, will not turn this man over to the corrupt government for gods-knows what kind of torture, because Two, he's my prisoner, not ours. The rest of you couldn't have caught him if he'd been on crutches. Then there is Three, the fact that the evil of slavery has nothing to do with our noble motives, which, until you started talking, just now, were pretty much entirely composed of Greed and Greed. As for Four, tomb robbing - well, that goes back to greed, for it is, I believe, what we'd end up doing if we got our hands on the map. I don't see a problem with that, but to imply that it is wrong just to bully someone into giving you what you can not pay for is, well, the simple word for it is theft. And of course, there's Lamashtu, whose name you invoked simply to get his attention, as I see no reason to assume that us robbing this tomb will stop her."
He looks at Samir and asks, "So, Five, How much, and where can we find you if we decide we want the map? Or, since you know we don't have the money, if we can find enough to buy it?"
He finishes talking, and drops his hand, casually, to the hilt of his scimitar.
Male Human Rogue 1
Can I get a sense of whether or not he's telling the truth?
1d20+4=24
Either Diplomacy or Deception, I don't remember which one got Sense Motive, but both are the same bonuse for me.
I'll have something to add to this conversation as soon as I get an answer.
Male Human Rogue 1
Jaku looks sidelong at the gnome, and takes a step away from him. Beyond that, well, he caught the guy, the interrogation seemed to be going fine without him adding his own rather unskilled help.

Male Human Rogue 1
Jaku goes to the beginning of the dock, turns, and, looking at the vast gulf of water between him and his next landing spot, whispers, "There is no spoon," and sprints for the end of the dock. He leaps from there to the next barge in the line, ready for drunks, or spiders, or deadly flying monkeys from the mythical Isle of Tandragabar. He twists in mid-air, trying to land facing the now-burning barge.
Assuming that all works out...
Move to B25 (to get enough of a running jump) then run to the very end of the dock at G25, and jump to J27. (or, if there's not enough dock left in G25, run to F25 and jump to I27).
the big jump (1d20+4=22)
While in the air, twist around to face east upon landing.
mid-air acrobatics (1d20+4=15)
Of course, if the situation doesn't warrant a powerful soliloquy (such as if I fall on my face in fish guts, or the deadly flying monkeys from the mythical Isle of Tandragabar snatch me out of the air and rip me into tiny pieces, then I won't say any of that last bit.

I think I'm probably going to quit this game.
The electron cloud initiative system isn't working for me.
When everyone gives their actions and then it all resolves at once, you get characters going places and doing things that no long make sense.
Combine that with the obvious "annoy the players" design of this encounter, and I'm really not having fun.
I'll finish this encounter (although I can't actually imagine it ending any way but with Samir escaping... it was pretty much designed that way) but then I think I'm out.
Male Human Rogue 1
acrobatics (1d20+4=22)
Rather than grabbing this Samir (an act that will likely result in both of them going for a swim), Jaku moves to block his escape. Drawing his weapons as he runs effortlessly over the slippery fish parts, he goes around the front of the next boat, then down the dock, and back onto the boat next to Samir.
"We need to talk to you Samir," he growls, "Don't make me angrier by forcing me to kill you."
Move to F23
intimidate (1d20+4=22)
randomly required rolls (1d20=7, 1d20=9)
If he runs past before I get in position, I give chase.
Male Human Rogue 1
Nah... let him take his swing.

Male Human Rogue 1
"I'm not here for you," Jaku growls as he moves past the drunk, obviously ignoring him.
I go ahead and make my jump.
Male Human Rogue 1
Jaku lands well and keeps going, trying to cut their quarry off before he can slip into the city streets and disappear. He runs, with some slipping and sliding, across the next boat, the pier, ANOTHER barge, and throws himself across the scum-covered water to land (hopefully) in a position to catch the fleeing man.
move to E16, jump to E20.
1d20=15, 1d20=16
Male Human Rogue 1
Um.
Why exactly are we braining the halfling?
This is going to be a problem.
Male Human Rogue 1
run to F5 and jump to F8 jump roll (1d20 4=19)
1d20=10, 1d20=9<= two raw rolls
Jaku, seeing their quarry is starting to bolt, moves to intercept.
"Somebody grab that halfling," he growls as he starts off.
Male Human Rogue 1
perception (1d20 6=15)
Jaku keeps an eye out for any sign of danger or any sign of their quarry.
Male Human Rogue 1
SargonX, I don't have the answers to Pindara's questions, but Jauk probably does.
Once back with the group, Jaku gives what information he has, and heads out with the rest.
Male Human Rogue 1
Jaku, seeing that about half the group is going to make finding anything harder, slips away for a bit. He asks around, chats about fish, grumbles about taxes, and hopefully comes back with something useful.
Diplomacy (1d20 4=18)
Male Human Rogue 1
Sadly, Jaku is really "action man." Once we get to the action, he'll be all over it, but this running around trying to find stuff out really isn't his gig. I look in on the game every day, at least once, but I only post when I feel that Jaku has something to add.
When the catacombs were brought up, he said he could get folks in. The group decided to go to the other place, so he's back in "support" mode until something happens.
I've built more talkative characters, but Jaku's just not one. Besides, Bedu easily uses up enough air for himself and Jaku.
I guess, partly, I'm having trouble getting committed to this adventure. I can't put my finger on why. Maybe it's just the "you're all hanging out (for whatever reason) and get sucked into the adventure."
Jaku doesn't really have a connection to anyone in the group. which is party my fault - I should have made sure to write connectivity into my character.
I dunno... I'm hoping that things improve.
Male Human Rogue 1
Knowledge(local) check (1d20 6=17)
Jaku has been mostly quiet, understanding, as he does, that he is no detective. Finding out things is not really his skill, so he looks around a bit and then waits until someone else finds something.
Once the conversation turns to the city and its catacombs, he perks right up.
"I have lived in this city my entire life, and as a child learned of many places where one could go and avoid... authority. I can get us into the catacombs."
He stifles a yawn, ready to go and yet also ready to sleep.

Jaku backs hastily out of the kitchen, and scans the crowd a bit more carefully, as well as scanning the walls, hoping for a door concealed behind a hidden tapestry.
"It seems," he comments, "that unless our cloaked friend is known to the cook, he did not go out that way. We may have to wait until later, when things are not so busy, to question said cook. I think if we tried now, there would be too great a chance of violence."

Profile Updated
Feat changes were a mistake. I had considered turning him into a fighter at 1, and had altered his stuff to look at the CMB skills, then changed back, and just hadn't completed the refit.
He's done now, I think.
Male Human Rogue 1
Alpha conversion is done. I don't know how much (if any) multiclassing he'll do. I'll probably want to see how a single-class rogue plays out now.
Male Human Rogue 1
Jaku nods to Bedu. "Tomorrow, then."
He stands, and quietly heads for home.
Male Human Rogue 1
"This seems interesting," Jaku murmurs. He looks at the stranger, "I will look into this, with whomever also wishes to do so."
Male Human Rogue 1
Jaku looks around, trying to determine if there's something he missed.
"We are planning to raid some of the ruins for wealth?" he asks, a frown of confusion darkening his brow, "Exactly where are we going? What are we looking for? How long will we be gone? We have spent so much time in pleasantries and in watching other peoples' drama that no concrete plans have been put forth. Without something more definite than 'There is wealth. Oh yes! Great wealth,' I cannot be party to this plan. Remember the parable of the camel and the monkey. The jaguar was the only one to benefit in that story."

As the gnome draws his kukri, Jaku, who has been sitting quietly, drops a hand to his scimitar. When he realizes that the only victim of violence will be a table, he relaxes.
He gestures for coffee, since he sees that this conversation will be long.
"Treasure hunting," he muses quietly, "my father will be so... proud."
Male Human Rogue 1
I'm finished. Backgroud and description are sketchy... I'll work on them later.
He'll be multiclassing into fighter (or ranger) next level.
