Jager was born low, only son of a tailor's daughter. He grew up big and strong; nothing like his thin, reedy cousins or grandfather.
By chance, the travelling noble who sired Jager passed through the town again. This led to a blazing row between JAger's family and the nobleman. Jager's size came in handy holding off the angry family. In gratitude, the noble offered to teach him about his heritage: House Highwind.
The noble pulled some strings and got Jager hired as a guard on the caravan. Over the course of the journey, Jager learned about this minor noble house and its history of being friends to dragons and even going so far as to try to emulate them. This gave rise to great heroes in the past, but the years have somewhat diluted the heroic nature of the house.
The caravan master outfitted Jager with some basic gear, which he could pay off with his earnings. He stuck wit that master for years, learning the ropes from fellow guards. One thing he learned was to always be prepared. As such, he tends to keep all sorts of odds and ends in pockets. He picked up early on that no one would buy the idea he was a noble, and generally keeps his mouth shut on that count. He will sometimes bust it out in an effort to be intimidating, but it never usually flies.
Jager is not generally quick to anger, but will finish a fight if it starts. Knowing about his Highwind history has planted the idea that he could claim some of that former glory. Right now, he's more concerned with his work and getting to the next town on the route.
