About Jaer Kols

This stout, small-statured rogue stands head to toe in cloth the colour of old metal and worn stone. Her skin is washed out, with dark eyes that demand sleep, yet her movements are sharp, and her smile all teeth; white and honest, with plenty to hide.

Backstory:
The daughter of now retired Nidalise Pathfinders, Jaer Kols has lived a life of mixed fortune, born free of slavery but beholden to her family's incessant need for travel. Born literally on the Tourondel River, over the years the young Halfling often found herself on either side of the Lastwall border as her parents journeyed for the Society, regularly leaving their daughter in the care of Silver Crusader allies to the north, and less reputable cousins within the southern Fangwood when business called them to the unsafe halls of Nidal. The result was a child with the spirit to do good, within reason, but the means and talent to do so much more.

All in all, Kassen is as close to a hometown as anything else Jaer knows. As soon as she was old enough to declare her independence, the Halfling took to officially settling in the port town, earning her keep through odd jobs and the occasional favour…something Jimes would know all about. Distant cousins by way of several marriages and a single blood relation, Jaer and Jimes have a long history of trading errands and often argue as to who owes whom the most. Then Jimes mentions that one time he convinced her to down a whole bottle of questionably branded absinthe and suddenly he doesn't owe her a damn thing. (The result was a lot of truly horrific dancing that kept pace with whatever speed Jocyn dared to play at. There were few survivors.)

Not strictly 'of' Kassen, and something of a social recluse, Jaer has never been nominated for the Quest of the Everflame, but has never hidden her willingness for the challenge. Thus when Jimes (whom she more affectionately calls 'J.J.' when he's out of earshot) called in Bardan for this year's run of the ceremony, the Halfling was understandably a little...insulted, yes, but concerned is probably the right word. Equally so, and perhaps to get the tinkering Halfling to stop jamming his locks, Jimes sent Jaer after this year's nominees in hopes that, if Bardan does fall prey to his fears, the rest of the elected might still have some chance of success.
