About Jaer Coldwater

Background and motivations:

Background

Jaer was raised in the tiny hamlet of Coldwater ("Home of the Midsummer Snows!", population: dozens), a frontier settlement deep in the foothills of the Wyrmspine Range. With the local economy revolving around outfitting prospectors, trappers, and others venturing into the deep mountains, Jaer often worked as a guide and guard growing up, before eventually enlisting in the scout corps of the (local nation) army to bring in extra money.

This year, all seemed normal as Jaer traveled home to Coldwater for the spring planting furlough. A month later, though, when he returned to "civilization", he found it was no longer anything of the sort...

Motivations

Growing up in the hardscrabble frontier life, Jaer learned the values of duty, loyalty, and community. With the world gone topsy-turvy around him, he now seeks to find and rejoin his unit; in the meantime, he will do what he can to aid and protect any other survivors he comes across. Eventually, he hopes to return to Coldwater -- possibly bringing others who need refuge with him -- but, for now, he hopes the hamlet's remote location, sturdy stockade, and experience fighting off brigands and the occasional monster attack will allow it to get through. Right now, the lowlanders need him more.
