Jadara “Jade” had a quiet existence for the first thirteen years of her life. She was the daughter of hafling bakers in the grand city of Absalom. The child, born with a constellation of stars on her right cheek, felt right at home in the city, eager to follow in her humble family’s footsteps. She was naturally beautiful and agile, traits common to her race. Yet she lacked the wanderlust common to halflings, as she was happy to live in her beloved city with her family. Until the one night when diabolical tiefling cultists of Asmodeus kidnapped her off the streets of Absalom, intent on sacrificing her as a part of a ritual. She would have likely perished too had the cultists not underestimated her stature and young age. Quicker than they all realized, Jade escaped the room where she was held through some loose floorboards and fled into the city. The cultists gave chase, but thankfully, that night as she ran through the streets, she bumped into a handsome male. The human saw the fear in the Jade’s eyes and quickly leapt to her rescue…literally! He brandished a rapier with such skill that Jade was transfixed on the scene of the battle, as her rescuer struck at the cultists with such grace and fluidity. By the time four of their number had fallen, none had yet laid a wound on the swordsman, and the remaining two cultists fled for their lives. The young man, no older, than 25 years of age, bowed and introduced himself to Jade as “Don Emilio Davos, swordsman extraordinaire.” He accompanied Jade home to her parents, where she burst into tears and told them all the details of her harrowing night. Fearing her life may be in danger by a repeated kidnapping attempt, Don Emilio convinced Jade’s parents that he would be best suited to protect her and that he was looking for an apprentice anyway and that Jade could be a natural with the sword. Jade’s parents recognized they could not protect her from such diabolical schemes and agreed for Jade to become an apprentice. Jade was sad to be apart from her parents, but she was curious and excited by the possibility of her weapons training. For two years, Don Emilio trained Jade as a “swashbuckler” and he was right about something: she was a natural, using her small size and agility to flow from blow to blow, and her charisma to distract her foes. Jade envisioned a bright future as a fencer/swordswoman, but life happens and things change. On the 2-year anniversary of her first kidnapping attempt, the fiendish cultists were back, this time led by a robed woman with a forked snake tongue. Again Don Emilio protected her but the cultists’ leader was an expert swordswoman herself and realizing he was going to fall in battle, Don Emilio delayed the robed leader long enough for Jade to flee. Jade saw the reptilian woman strike Emilio down before fleeing and seeking haven in the nearest church, which happened to be the Seventh Church, Temple of Iomedae. Her fiendish kidnappers did not dare follow her inside. Grief-stricken now that her mentor was dead, that night, Jade swore an oath to Iomedae that she would avenge Don Emilio’s death. With no mentor, she could no longer train as a swashbuckler and instead studied for years to become a holy knight (paladin), focusing more on the martial side than the arcane side. She gave up the study of divine magic to become the best warrior possible, yet she never forgot her mentor, blending her agility, speed, and size with the longsword, devoted weapon of Iomedae. Impressively, she has managed to treat the sword as a dueling weapon, relying on her natural agility to turn the tide of battle. Jade knows that despite her successes, she is always underestimated as a halfing paladin of Iomedae is a joke to most people….until they see her skill in battle. During her years as a paladin, Jade has visited the various Temples of Iomedae scattered around Golarion. Coincidentally, she was a few miles away from Kenabres, when the wardstone was destroyed and the silver dragon was killed. She immediately joined the call for arms and was a driving force in the army that retook Drezen from the demons. She is looking now to be an active in the war efforts, always on lookout for the robed snaked-tongued woman. Appearance:
Jade is 3’ tall, frail looking, but unnaturally fast. She has short blonde hair and blue eyes and a jovial smile, which highlights the constellation of stars on her cheek. Though she has seen much battle, Jade continues to be friendly and diplomatic, always remaining positive despite the tragedies in her life. pic Player:
I am in the EST and I have 20+ years in role-playing games. I recently finished a 5+ year PbP on these board (Age of Worms) where my dwarf character finished 16 ranger/2 fighter/2 barbarian/2 guardian. I have never disappeared from a game as a player. As a DM, RL has interfered and I have been absent. |
