Background:
The death of a knight
Gorthug glared at the knight standing before him. The human probably thought him to be an idiot. Another rampaging beast lost to reason, with naught but bloodlust in his veins. In this, he was wrong. While Gorthug knew little except for battle, he was no bloodraging barbarian. No, he was a soldier. And he was perceptive enough to see that while his less aware comrade was trying to rip a man in half, he was leaving himself exposed to an incoming knight. Gorthug knew the stereotypes, and he knew how true most of them were. It was for this reason that he had trained so hard to fight with one of the traditional weapons of his people, the 'orc ram.' It was supposed to be little more than a wooden log with a shoulder strap to carry some of the weight. The name came from the orc tradition of making the ram’s head out of a large skull. Gorthug had commissioned his to be as well crafted as any knightly blade. The log was reinforced with metal struts, and the head itself was made out of fine steel. He still looked the part of a barbarian, but what he held in his hands was a tool of death. It made his human foes underestimate him. And most importantly, it gave him reach. He opened his mouth and let out a bestial roar at the knight in front of him and lifted his ram as if though he was preparing to swing. He saw the knight's eyes widen. The knight had seen what the ram had done to the other three soldiers who had gotten in his way. The man was tensing, getting ready to dodge, to exploit the obvious opening. But what he didn't notice was that Gorthug had stepped five feet to the left. He did this to position himself... ...the other knight was charging in, getting ready to skewer Gorthug's comrade. He didn't notice that he was within reach of the orcish ram. He didn't realize that he was Gorthug's target. As the knight galloped by, Gorthug swung his ram. Not at the knight he was fighting, but at the horse that was charging past him. The ram hit the horse's legs, and Gorthug could feel bones snap. The sheer force of the blow and the exchange of energy would have ripped the weapon out of the hands of a weaker warrior, but Gorthug was as strong as an orc could be when not frothing mad with battle-lust. The knight on horseback tumbled out of his saddle, completely surprised by Gorthug's attack of opportunity. The knight whom Gorthug was facing let out a most ungentlemanly curse as he raised his blade and charged at the orc, hoping to make him pay for his 'cowardly' blow, and to protect his kinsman from Gorthug pouncing on him. Gorthug saw this coming, and blocked the blade with his ram, using it to shield himself. It was a maneuver made possibly purely because of his massive strength. He swatted the blade aside, and swung with all of his might...at the knight's shield. The man raised it to block the blow, but it was what the orc wanted. Steel crumbled under the force, and he was fairly certain that he had dislocated the man's shoulder, if not broken his arm. He smiled, with the joy that only came from taking a life in the name of the Black Swords... Noble’s Plate:
Sir Aurilius wore a suit of plate armor. Made from living steel, it was enchanted to be as comfortable as a suit of regular clothing. And moreso, could take the appearance of any mundane clothing. Everyone in his family who took the vow of knighthood was provided such a suit, for they vowed to always be ready for war. The armor made that possible. Human Ghost Rider Cavalier. If everyone here had died, then thematically it would fit. And what sort of knight wouldn’t have a horse? Aasimar Alternate SLA: 1d100 ⇒ 70
”It does.” The hellknight said, Hunger in his voice. ”I will accompany you. If this blade that the traitor seeks is near, then the dwarf won’t have gone far. As for this demon...” The prayers inscribed on his armor flashed with light, leaving only a glow in the eye holes of his helmet. Discern Lies: Will DC18:

[ooc]He will cast it again if the demon succeeds. ”Tell me everything you know about the dwarf we described and his goals.”
Aurilous returned the salute. ”Armiger Kevroth...why does that sound so familiar?” With halberd in hand, he stood near enough to the surrendered demon to strike. ”Would this be the same band of Armigers that stew the Minotaur Deradnu and the heretic Jeslyn at the gray garrison?” He looked over at D’hara and Giosue. Sven had already wandered off to continue scouting. ”I had heard of a group of armigers who were making a name for themselves. It is good to know that my rescue is but another deed to your names. Now, I believe that the field rightfully belongs to you.” He said this to the group, in general. ”What will you do with your prisoner?”
Ah, damn! You're right. I threw Maw and Claw in at the last moment because I liked the idea of never being disarmed. I'll replace the Claws with: Soul Seer (Rare tieflings have a peculiar sight that allows them to see the state of a creature’s soul. They can use deathwatch at will as spell-like ability. This racial trait replaces the spell-like ability and fiendish sorcery racial traits.)
Posted. And finalized character. A few things... (1) Legendary Armor. Intelligent and spellcasting
Also doesn’t require food, and while he needs 2x water he can create it via a cantrip. Gave him this to make his armor as adventurable as possible. Plus it just felt right to have Legendary Hellknight armor
First attempt to write this, computer died on me... Aurilous pulled himself out of the fire, his crusader tabard coming off in ashen pieces. Up close, it was evident that his armor was not that of a crusading paladin, but rather, a hellknight. Given the religious prayers etched on every inch of the plate, it was a mistakable difference. As he got to his feet, he immediately began praying. Infernal Healing cast. Assuming this makes him full? If not, will deduct a few more spell slots K-Local, DC10:
From his armor, it should be clear that he is a member of the Godclaw. The religious writing are prayers to the Godclaw: Abadar, Asmodeus, Iomedae, Irori, and Torag. The tenants of the order distill the harshest, most lawful doctrines, of those deities. This outward display of piety would lead to a hellknight who follows up on the goings of his/her brothers to know that this is Sir Aurilous, a pious hellknight who is often attached to Crusader forces. He is also used to track down heretics and bring them to justice, a task in which he usually operates independently. "Brothers, sister, thank you for your aid. I was tasked with bringing a heretical dwarf to justice, and was caught unaware by these creatures. I was paralyzed by their magic, and if you did not come along, I would have died by their hands." As he said this, he looked over at the surrendered demon. Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 He had no idea if it was telling the truth or not.
So...I just realized that the hellknight disciplines are neutered by a sentence: "The Hell Knight can use any one discipline a number of times per day equal to the total number of disciplines he has access to, so at 3rd level he can use his discipline once per day." However, Penatmic Faith gives the Hellknight a Cleric Domain. For example: Law Domain (Touch of Law (Sp): You can touch a willing creature as a standard action, infusing it with the power of divine order and allowing it to treat all attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks, and saving throws for 1 round as if the natural d20 roll resulted in an 11. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.") Would the hellknight use touch of law 1/day, or 3+wis per day? I believe RAW is 1/day, but wanted to check with you.
Order of the Godclaw! It just feels the most "Crusader" of the Orders. From the wiki... The Hellknights follow revised doctrines to stamp out disorder, particularly its divine embodiments and beings of absolute chaos, with religious zeal. Rather than targeting the faiths of prominent religions, the order sets its eyes on supporting lawful crusades (such as the wars fought by Molthune and Mendev) and being at the vanguard of battles against the forces of chaos The Order of the Godclaw began with Seldinin Choaz, a ranking member of the Order of the Pyre, who led four of his fellow Hellknights to aid the First Mendevian Crusade in 4623 AR. Their successes abroad won them the unofficial title, Order of the Godclaw. The group continued its crusade against the Worldwound demons until 4665 AR, when they abandoned the Leaden Cathedral in Mendev at the start of the Third Mendevian Crusade to return to Cheliax. Impressed by their efforts, the Order of the Pyre sponsored the small but wealthy group, formalizing the Order of the Godclaw as a recognised Hellknight order. Construction of Citadel Dinyar began soon afterwards. ----------------- Aurilous Background, based on Stolen Fury Campaign Trait:
Aurilous was born in the crusader city of Kenabres. He was born a normal child, in the family of crusaders. He had thought that he would walk in their footsteps, and that in time he too would take up arms against the demons of the world-wound. That is, until his life changed. Aurilous forced to take part in a demonic ritual as a youth after having been captured by cultists. Whatever the ritual’s purpose may have been, it didn’t work out the way his captors envisioned—rather than corrupting his soul, he absorbed the ritual’s energy and made it your own before he escaped to safety. Ever since, he has been haunted by strange nightmares about the ritual, and has long felt that the energies it bathed him in has changed him. While he did manage to escape, the young Aurilous was forever changed. It started with the nightmares, and slowly got worse from there. As he reached maturity, he began to find that he was physically changing as well. On his hand, a symbol was beginning to form. It was the sign of Asmodeus Horrified at what was happening, and afraid of going to his parents, the young Aurilous eventually confided what he had gone through and what happened to him to a dwarven cleric of Torag. He begged the dwarf to cure him of the curse, before the Iomedean Inquisitors found out his secret. Little did he know that the cleric was a follower of the Godclaw, who had come to Kenarbres to lend his hammer to the front-lines against Chaos. The dwarf explained to Aurilous that he was not doomed to evil, no more than he was born to good. But rather, there was a path that he could walk which would save him. The path of order. With little else to hold onto, Aurilous readily agreed. The dwarf, much to Aurilous' horror, went to his parents. Within a week, rather than facing the flames of the inquisitors, he was instead sent to Isger, and the Hellknight fortress that is Citadel Dinyar. Since then, Aurilous has grown into a man. He has learned through constant practice and meditation to not only control the energies that he has absorbed, but to control them, in the name of the Godclaw. Where once he was horrified at the symbol of Asmodeus, burnt onto his hand, he now displays it proudly. It is but one of the many holy symbols that has been burnt onto his flesh. With the fall of Kenabres, he has returned to his homeland. Now an adult, he sees the world with a new perspective. He has seen first hand the depravity of evil. He has experienced that fear that comes with good unrestrained. What he has learned is that what the world needs is order. For without order, everything falls apart. As a child, Aurilous dreamed of marching against the demons of the world wound. That dream has now come true, only he marches under the colors of the Hellknights. There is his background. Did my best to base it off of his campaign trait.
Sven here! Sven is going to go into NPC status while I make a new Hellknight. While Sven is fun, he’s too “hyper-efficient” and I wanted to go with someone more versatile. So, meet Aurilous. Fighter->Hellknight/Oracle. He’s an Iron Caster, which makes him highly mobile (Dimension Door and Flight) and good at support (Breath of Life and Restoration) as Spell like abilities 8x times per day. With his chainsword attachment, all Aurilous had to do was thumb the activation rune for his weapon to come to life. Flanking the genestealer, he thrust with the Weapon, the whirling teeth of the blade promising a painful end.

The genestealers came out, directly at the feet of the astartes. Aurilous already had his bolter pointed at the floor, and just as they reached their claws up to climb out he unloaded his bolter into them. At such a close range it would be hard to miss...though missing would be catastrophic. Still...these were genestealers. Against such xenos, it was standard practice to send veterans in terminator armor to deal with them. And even then it often wasn't enough. To let them close into melee range would be just as fatal to the mission as hitting the plasma chamber. He grimly fired three shots, one after another, into the xenos filth.
Aurilous looked impassively at the other members of his squad. His role was to keep them alive, or alternatively, to bring back their gene seed. From what he had been briefed on, it was likely that he would have to take the alternative path for at least one of them. And a large part of this role was understanding whom he was fighting with. The sanguiniary priest held his bolter at the ready. With it's chainsword attachment, it was as deadly in close combat as it was at range. It was not a common weapon, for the bolter or the chainsword alone would be take a strong man to hold. Having both put together, and with the revving of the blades; it would take superhuman strength to use it effectively. Luckily, that is exactly what they all possessed. But with ten billion souls depending on them, would it be enough?

I think we could use some more firepower. Though pure close combat could be interesting...
Background: 1d5 ⇒ 3 Aurilous sat in quiet meditation. He was not alone when he had taken the oath. He was now. Even now he could remember the Hadex anomaly. He and his battle brothers had been fighting the Stigmartus Covenant when it happened. He heard the death cries of warriors not yet born. He had seen the brightest of stars done. He had...seen his Primarch. There had been five men in his squad. Three fell to the Black Rage, with only himself and Brother Xanthus not succumbing. Brother Xanthus had taken the Apocryphon oath. He remembered the day clearly, for in his heart he could feel his brother slipping into the black rage. He could feel his fear, his anger, and he could understand his brother’s desire to flee. Aurillous has taken the oath as well, for he wanted to be there when his brother either died or slipped into the rage. His brother was dead. He had been right about the rage. He had seen it. He had been there at the end. The geneseed had been harvested. But he still missed his brother. He still dreamed of the day when his squad was lost. He still felt the madness that had blasted his soul. The only comfort was that he had access to the archives of the Deathwatch, and had been able to research the anomaly that had cost his chapter so deadly, as well as the biotoxins of species he didn’t even know existed. He had knowledge to bring back to his chapter. But first...he would have to survive. For he had taken the oath, and would soon be sent into a space hulk. The chances of survival were not great. He knew why he was being sent. He would likely be needed to bring back geneseed from this mission. He kept his mind clear as he meditated. The future would be as it was. The only things that were certain in life were duty and death.
Is this right? Medicae: 1d100 ⇒ 74
If lightly wounded Narthecium raises the threshold for which the patient is considered Lightly Damaged to 3 times his Toughness Bonus and doubles the amount of damage healed by first aid. So if a battle brother has T4 and has taken 12 or less wounds, then he is lightly wounded. Int 5, doubles for Narthecium. Extra Heal for ability: 1d5 ⇒ 3 Total of 13 wounds healed. If heavily wounded If a character has taken 13+ wounds he is heavily wounded. So heals 1 point normally, doubled to 2 because of Narthecium. Further 1d5 for enhanced healing. So with above dice rolls, would heal 5 wounds. —— Am I doing this all right? Because if so I think that I’ve got a good Healer for the squad.
Grumbaki here. Hard to find a good avatar for a space marine. This one seems like it is workable though. Easier, I would say, for a hooded dark angel. Or a space wolf. Also it looks like we’ll have an apothecary and a librarian. Can’t go wrong with any other classes to go with them. Also hope it’s ok to be a Nova Paladin. They’re a new chapter that doesn’t follow the codex as religiously as the ultramarines. They feel like they have to prove themselves given their short history. To me, the low-ish Fellowship also represents being lower on the totem pole due to being from a lesser known chapter. Aurioious will be a veteran of the 2nd Company’s Far Cry War, meaning that he has experience fighting Tau and Elder. I’d assume that he also has some minor experience combating Tyranids, but wouldn’t be considered an expert by any means. He has no experience dealing with Chaos.
