Often, a half-orc will acquire the best of all possible traits from their parents; this is not the situation in Iordyne's case. His human blood has prevailed in terms of both his stature and his overall build, while his general physiognomy is enough of a blend between his two sides that it cancels out any benefit from either. Simply put, for a half-orc he is both short and soft, passing by 'fleshy' and going straight into 'pudgy'. His face has enough orc in it that he makes for a pug-ugly human, but enough human traits that he makes for a less than intimidating orc.
Compensating for his lackluster appearance, though, is his voice. Iordyne possesses a deep, rumbling bass that would be the envy of many an orator. Even without vocal training he can speak with a honeyed purr one moment and raise his voice into a pitch that is reminiscent of rocks thundering down a mountain the next. He'd make for an excellent singer if it weren't for the fact that he's tone deaf. He likes to sing along in a crowd, though.
BACKGROUND
The squalling infant that would come to be known as Iordyne was found in the burned-out wreck of an orc village along the edge of the Pomarj. Sacked during the routine and incessant back-and-forth border conflicts in that region, his clearly part-human ancestry moved the human militia doing the sacking to take pity on one of their own, and the baby was sent north to a small home for war orphans outside Greyhawk City.
The orphanage, dedicated to Mayaheine the Shield Maiden, was staffed by people with the best intentions, yet Iordyne never found happiness there while growing. His differences from his fellow (and predominantly human) wards left him an outsider from the start. Still, while his human peers isolated, belittled and mocked him, he lived and was healthy, which was more than a half-breed runt would have had to look forward to in an orc community. He gradually reconciled himself to this fact and used it to content him as he was passed over for adoption in favor of human children time and again. To keep himself company, he buried himself in the few books the orphanage had, rereading adventures and legends time and time again. Slowly he constructed an elaborate fantasy life inside his mind, making a world populated with bizarre and creative imaginary friends he could turn to in lieu of real ones.
