CLASS FEATURES Dark overlords frequently recruit their most bloodthirsty followers to serve as brutal bodyguards. These savage slaves feel little pain and exist only to rain terror down on the enemies of their pitiless masters. Weapon & Armour Proficiency:
A barbarian is proficient with all simple and martial weapons, light armor, medium armor, and shields (except tower shields). Intractable (Ex):
A combination of brainwashing and loyalty helps a fearsome defender resist pain and torture, enduring grueling combat or questioning without betraying her dark lord. A fearsome defender gains a +2 bonus on saving throws against pain effects, and the DCs of checks to coerce her or demoralize her with Diplomacy or Intimidate increase by 2. Both the bonus and the increase to DCs increase by 2 when she gains greater rage and again by 2 when she gains mighty rage. This ability replaces fast movement. Rage (Ex):
A barbarian can call upon inner reserves of strength and ferocity, granting her additional combat prowess. Starting at 1st level, a barbarian can rage for a number of rounds per day equal to 4 + her Constitution modifier. At each level after 1st, she can rage for 2 additional rounds. Temporary increases to Constitution, such as those gained from rage and spells like bear's endurance, do not increase the total number of rounds that a barbarian can rage per day. A barbarian can enter rage as a free action. The total number of rounds of rage per day is renewed after resting for 8 hours, although these hours do not need to be consecutive. While in rage, a barbarian gains a +4 morale bonus to her Strength and Constitution, as well as a +2 morale bonus on Will saves. In addition, she takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class. The increase to Constitution grants the barbarian 2 hit points per Hit Dice, but these disappear when the rage ends and are not lost first like temporary hit points. While in rage, a barbarian cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration. A barbarian can end her rage as a free action and is fatigued after rage for a number of rounds equal to 2 times the number of rounds spent in the rage. A barbarian cannot enter a new rage while fatigued or exhausted but can otherwise enter rage multiple times during a single encounter or combat. If a barbarian falls unconscious, her rage immediately ends, placing her in peril of death. FEATS Intimidating Prowess (Combat) - 1st Level Character Feat:
Your physical might is intimidating to others. Benefit: Add your Strength modifier to Intimidate skill checks in addition to your Charisma modifier. TRAITS Privileged Slave (Regional Trait):
You were enslaved but obeyed your masters dutifully, earning yourself additional benefits from your masters. Benefit: You gain a +1 trait bonus on Bluff checks, and Bluff becomes a class skill for you. Ruthless (Campaign Trait):
You never hesitate to strike a killing blow. Benefit: You gain a +1 trait bonus on attack rolls to confirm critical hits. Kin Guardian - House Vytharia (Combat Trait):
You are dedicated to defending members of your family (House Vytharia) Benefit: When you use the aid another action to give a member of your family a bonus to AC, increase the bonus by 2. This increase is a trait bonus (and therefore doesn't stack with increases granted by other family members using this trait). This trait has no effect when using the aid another action to increase a family member's next attack roll. CLASS SKILLS:
The barbarian's class skills are Acrobatics (Dex), Climb (Str), Craft (Int), Handle Animal (Cha), Intimidate (Cha), Knowledge (nature) (Int), Perception (Wis), Ride (Dex), Survival (Wis), and Swim (Str). APPEARANCE:
Pale narrowed eyes flash from the shadows before a hairy goblinoid brute slides forth from the dark. Jagged teeth flash in a wicked grin, as the dim light catches the numerous blades worn upon its person. The towering bugbear’s dark fur is marred with numerous brand marks and scars. The creatures large ears droop lankly from its wide head and brow furrowed in belligerence. Around its neck dangles a necklace of dried tongues. Moving in easy grace that belies its bulk, the bugbear draws forth a jagged-edged throwing axe. Wrinkling its blue tinged nose, the stooping hulk licks the air as if tasting a delicacy, then slowly and deliberately it flips the handle of the axe once; powerful muscles rippling under its hairy hide. In a rasping voice it speaks… the words of the Undercommon Tongue coming forth haltingly from its tooth'ed maw: ”Rhun.” ”Littel one.” ”Rhun.” Age: 7 years Height: 7'1 Weight: 393 lbs. PERSONALITY:
Hurk’kagg hates most things, and those things he does not he typically finds a reason to hate. As typical of his race, he revels in violence and cruelty; however when it is ordered by his Mistress, then it is so much the sweeter. Unlike most drow slaves the brute is both highly protective and fiercely loyal to his mistress (and ergo her kin). Hurk’kagg both fears and is in awe of the beguiling powers and abilities dokk olver (Goblin for Dark Elves) wield. BACKGROUND:
Hurk'kagg slept. His heavy skull a vessel for dreams and memories that dripped and pooled like draining lifeblood. The bugbear smiled unconsciously as he slumbered - jagged teeth exposed, nose snorting, floppy notched ears twitching before he fell back into the deep breathes of deeper sleep. Dreams. Dreams of a stout pup coveted by clawing geblins until he was claimed by a shadow with lavender hair. Nesting in a leather satchel, the smell of perfumed oil and steel and the taste of strips of raw lizard meat fed by delicate fingers were his world. Hushed words and whispered encouragement... as he grew. A happy time - a happy dream. Then iron collar, her branding touch and the smell of burned fur. Once again the fetid geblins danced and skulked shared his new life. Others too... Yapping little dragon-kin, broken little deep people who cried and prayed, even a proud, beardless dwur. All hated and feared Hurk'kagg. Still a pup, they slapped and poked and bit and hit - hurt until the shadow skin scattered them with a touch that seared their souls. Older. No more hurt. Hated and feared still, but for good reason. Big now. Bigger. Biggest. At her behest he breaks and snaps the little ones. The smell of their fear... Pounding hearts make a drum beat in his dreams. Warm piss and iron tang of blood a succulent feast. Whimpers and tears of the desperate, the forlorn, the afraid. Dreams drift... The unknown shadow protector no longer. A name: Siobhan of House Vytharia. His Mistress. Serve her well. Kill for her. Hunt for her. In her shadow there is life. In her hands she wields burning death. Hurk'kagg knows death, knows its taste, knows its scent. It smells right. The brute shifts again - snorting in his sleep. Wedge-like ears twitch and swivel as a words and booted impact drag him back. The voice, melodic in its hunger... both hard and soft at the same time. Familiar. "Come Hurk'kagg. It is a new day and I smell death on the air. Vengeance is ours." Drowsy he only hears "smell, death, and vengeance." It is enough. The brutes eyes roll open and he yawns, all fangs and indigo tongue. Then smiles... |
