Finally, he winks and says something in orcish. orcish: This a trap? Give me a cut and I'll join you guys.

Hog leans in with the rest of the ears. "And of course, you will be rewarding us for the cleanup we have already done. ...Right?" He pulls out his ledger and begins speaking while flipping pages, writing, and tallying. "I'd say that your 10g per person offer is sufficient for services already rendered. Once that is paid, we can continue the investigation. We will return for our remaining 10 once the investigation is complete." He looks up from the ledger. "So, where is the Bursar? I'm sure your townsfolk are looking forward to having us clean this place up as soon as possible. I'd hate to see anyone else be injured or killed due to a simple accounting delay."

Hog laughs at this and tosses the large chains he was carrying for barter, and the ear loop, at his feet. "I thought you might have some sort of half cocked idea like that. Is this proof enough for you? That's a well worn chain they used to block the road, and the ears of the blockers themselves."

"Let's head to the town master. I'm sure he wants to see these ears. Laucian, you have 5 minutes to come up with a heroic song regarding our killing of these goblins to play for him. The town hall is right here."

"Aye, a bunk is plenty." Hog takes a bottom bunk, rolls his things into a rather large and bumpy pillow, and proceeds to fall straight to sleep. -------------
"Let's get rid of this steel and gather some supplies before we dig too deep into town." He offers up the 5 scimitars for sale/barter and puts on his best dumb half orc persona. "Got these swords we don't need no more. If yer willin' ta take em off me hands, I'm sure ma pals here would be spendin' ther gold here right away. That way you get some swords, get rid of some junk cluttering yer shelves, and may even take some of our gold by the end. Whaddya think?"

Hog walks up to the "warrior" in the corner and hands him his drink. First of you to tell me a story, gets the best they got...
He then returns to the scribes, cheery and red faced from drink. "Tomorrow night sirs, same place, same time. You are folk worth drinking with. Whaddaya say?"

Hog takes a glass and raises it to Rayford in cheers, then takes a swig. Once the cheers and commotion dies down a bit, he looks back to the scribes. "Something feels off here. What do you know about this town? Anyone/thing to watch out for? Anyone I should get to know? What's the beef with the Helionauts other than them being pompous asses?"

Hog does not have much interest in the cloaks and would leave them if it was up to him. The weapons, coins, and other goods he will offer to carry if others can not. As to Jeff's question. Hog only lays his pipe in the pink sea. No muddy pipe for him. Also before reaching town Hog pulls out a small ledger from his kit and starts marking down what was found. He goes, quite nosily, to each person and asks what they found then writes it down. He mutters as he does it. "Five scimitars, average quality. Five ugly cloaks that smell of piss..." He also investigates the note further.
"Looks like we have a total coin value of 43 gold, 1 silver and 4 copper. That comes to 8 gold, 6 silver and 2 copper each. I can carry some of the rest of this, then sell it and split the profits in town too if you'd like."
Hog is silent as the scribe and bugbear negotiate entry. "There ya go. Safe and sound. A drink and a rest wounds good. I'll visit the town master and shops in the morning."

Hog finishes threading his ears, including one that is threaded on like a kebab, and walks back to the group. "If you think the horses will be fine, that's good enough for me." Hog is ready to go, but no rush to the rest of you guys. He's not the most patient when it comes to people, but that is just the RP, not me.

Hog will investigate the chain and see if there is anything else hidden nearby while he is at it. investigation: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 Then he will use his thieves tools to disassemble it and coil the chains. If the younger scribe allows it, he loads the chain up on the back of the horse, securing it with bits of leather and cloth cut from the goblins clothes. Once he is content no one can use this trick again, he takes his knife back from the first goblin and begins collecting ears. "Squeamish may want to look away, but some places offer bounties on dead goblins. Worth a shot at some extra gold in my opinion." He then pokes a hole in each one, threads through a bit of wire from his kit, and hooks the ears on his belt. Finally, he drags the bodies off to the side of the road and piles them against a tree. "Any of you good at medicine? We may want to patch up these horses if we can."

Hog runs up to Laucian's goblin, drawing a sword while he does, and smashes it into its back.
"Get those horses moving boys, into the woods if you need to. Just run." He then points to the bottom right goblin and yells something in orcish: "YOU'RE NEXT!"

Hog stops dead in his tracks. In an instant, the quiet and cautious half orc's eyes go bright red. With a flash, the dagger hidden in his belt is not only visible, but flying towards a shape in the woods. As the dagger streaks out, he growls... "GOBLINS!" bonus action to rage
damage: 1d4 + 3 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 2 + (1) = 10 Empty handed but furious, he stares into the woods, seeming to dare others to show themselves.

As the men men gesture about his boot knife, he winks at them. He seems unsuprised that they noticed it and even chuckles to himself a bit at the uproar it causes. Once they are underway, Hog stays quiet. His eyes constantly scan back and forth for threats, poor road conditions, or more humorous posturing from the overcompensating "bringers of light." Once the trio of Richards leave, he looks to the scribes. "Keep your eyes open. Don't just look for people with swords or big scary half-orcs. Look for things that are out of place. Trust that feeling in your guy when something feels wrong. The way I see it, its hardly ever the knife in a boot, or greatsword across a shoulder that causes the biggest problem. Its the knife you cant see, the loose barstool leg tat becomes a club, or the crossbow under a cloak that gets you. Why don't you two put those back hidden and play the part of "helpless and unarmed." It could be a useful surprise if we get ambushed." Hogark then proceeds to take off every bit of armor he can, sparing the emblazoned sigil on the chest.
"S~$! armor like that gets in the way more than it helps if you know what you're doing. I don't see why they wont give me a big bloody amulet or something."

A 6'6" half-orc fidgets with his ill fitting armor against one wall. Muttering to himself, but not especially quietly, he rambles on.
About that time he notices the weapons being claimed and pops up quickly. After a quick scan of the wall, he selects two short swords, a hand axe, four daggers, and a quarterstaff. However, with the bundle of weapons in his arms and limited places to store such an arsenal, he puts back all but two short swords and two daggers. The swords get strapped to his heavy belt, along side an array of strange tools. Mirrors, files, pliers, tweezers, and even a small magnifying glass each fit in their own leather loop at his belt and bandolier. One of the daggers gets shoved in his boot, and the other seems to disappear under the folds of his shirt.
Once his various blades are settled, he looks up the the rest of the people and puts on an awkward smile. "Can never have too many knives. Anyway, I'm Hogark. You can call me Hog though. I work with the doors, hinges, and locks around here." Hog is fairly quiet and mostly keeps to himself. However, there was the "crooked door" incident. Long story short, a couple of guys were horsing around while installing a door. They managed to bend a hinge, and were in the process of trying to jimmy it back straight with a crowbar and a knife when Hog saw them. It was two weeks before either of them was seen outside the infirmary tent. Since then, most people keep clear of Hog and his metalwork. |
