About Havelock Iacton

To be born into relative privilege can be something of a problem, as it means you have more expectations placed upon you from birth, and also more scrutiny.

While rich merchants might not have the power and prestige of nobility, especially not on a feudal world like Havelock grew up on, it does mean that many of them desire to rise higher, through a marriage into nobility for example.

So, from a young age, Havelock was trained in many things, swordplay, poetry, literacy and more.
He was conspicuously NOT trained to be a merchant, but a brave warrior who could attract the attention of a noble patron, who might eventually help him secure a knighthood or a noble marriage.

Imagine how many dreams came crashing down when young Havelock was detected by and taken aboard the black ships.
On a more primitive world like his, he was immediately branded a witch, and his family persecuted for having such "unclean blood" as to bring forth such a "thing".

Upon holy terra, Havelock was tested, and his will proved strong enough that rather than be sacrificed or turned into an astropath, he was sanctioned and taken in by the Templar Calix, to further his education in combat.

He was also instilled with the spirit of a crusader, to atone for his own birth by taking down the enemies of the emperor.

Unfortunately, it did install a cognitive dissonance in the mind of the boy, now a man. He was tainted by the warp, but taught how to use his taint in the service of those who would condemn him.

In addition, in his mind, he found that an idea that he could only truly atone if he could somehow go back home to find his family and somehow restore them to a position of power.

If he was to atone, he needed to do it from the beginning and work his way up.

Being taken into the cadre of an Inquisitor was a death sentence for some, but for Havelock, it was the first time when his desires all came together.
If he died in the service of the holy inquisition, he would die a noble death, but if he lived, he might earn enough power and prestige to full fill his dream of home.

He would BECOME an Inquisitor!

Traits:

The Constant Threat: When the character or an ally
within 10 metres triggers a roll on Table 6–2: Psychic
Phenomenon (see page 196), the Adeptus Astra
Telepathica character can increase or decrease the
result by amount equal to his Willpower bonus.

Tested on Terra: If the character takes the Psyker
elite advance during character creation, he also
gains the Sanctioned trait (see page 138).

Sanctioned:
As part of the tithes every world owes the Imperium, each must
collect all who show any sign of psychic abilities for the Black
Ships to carry to Terra. There, the Adeptus Astra Telepathica
conduct fearsome testing known as sanctioning for power levels,
mental strength, and other factors that decide each psyker’s fate.
To survive is to have passed these tests, and gone on to serve the
Emperor as a Sanctioned Psyker. If a Sanctioned character gains
the Psyker elite advance, he does not gain the Corruption normally
inflicted with that advance and starts at psy rating of 2 instead of 1.

At Home in Armour: A feudal world character
ignores the maximum Agility value imposed
by any armour he is wearing.

Smite the Unholy: In addition to the normal uses of Fate
points (see page 293 of the Dark Heresy Core Rulebook), a
Crusader character can also spend a Fate Point to automatically
pass a Fear test with a number of degrees of success equal
to his Willpower bonus. In addition, whenever he inflicts a
hit with a melee attack against a target with the Fear (X)
trait, he inflicts X additional damage and counts his
weapon’s penetration as being X higher.
