Gyle is the natural son of a disgraced Irish landowner. His father was stripped of lands after accumulating massive debts. Subsequently, his family fled the Emerald Isle to escape the debts not covered by the lost properties and Gyle is all that remains of his line save one brother and two sisters he has not seen in three years. Gyle has wandered the British Isles for the last year, trying his hand at a few less than legal pursuits, but with the death of the king, he is headed for Edinburgh to try to carve out a place in the chaos of an upended court. With luck and his wits, using a poisoned tongue or blade, Gyle hopes to restore himself to a position of wealth and prominence.
