About Grot Alouisious
Grot Alouisious grew up in the small community of Riverford, within the nation of Andoran.
While getting ready for bed one night, John and Meredith Alouisious heard a knock at their door. When they answered, all they found was a basket holding an infant half-orc soundly asleep. There was a scrap of paper with him that simply read "Grot. Please care." The truly strange thing about the babe was an odd blueish tinged birthmark upon his forehead that bore a striking resemblance to the holy symbol of Cayden Cailean, the god of freedom, bravery, and drink, whom Grot later aceepted as his patron deity. The human couple decided to take Grot in and care for him for the night, and try to determine where his parents were the next day. Days spent investigating turned into weeks, and with no answers to be found, even through magical means, John and Meredith decided to adopt the child as their own.
In addition to owning a farm, John and Meredith also ran a schoolhouse in town, and they took turns teaching several days a week. This afforded Grot a fair education, and instilled a curious mind in him from a young age. He quickly gained acceptance among the other children as a protector of the meak. While his parents disliked all the fights he would get in, they were also proud of his readiness to stand up to the town bullies for those who could not stand up for themselves.
At the age of thirteen, Grot began training to join the town's local militia, where once again he excelled. He quickly proved a potent fighter, and proudly served the militia for several years.
On the eve of his sixteenth birthday, however, Riverford was attacked by a werewolf and its dire wolf thralls. The attack was over quickly, the milita killing many wolves with few casualties of their own. The werewolf leader escaped however, along with several of its minions, dragging along several townspeople as well.
Grot lead the charge to follow the beasts and recover the stolen townspeople. After a short pursuit, they found the creatures. The townspeople had been bound by rope, and the lycanthrope seemed to be searching them for something. When Grot and the others arrived, Grot saw the werewolf leaning over the unconscious body of his betrothed, an elf maiden named Allestria. Seeing his love in danger, Grot charged the monster, leaving the lesser wolves for the other militiamen.
Enraged, Grot rushed in, slashing violently, taking a chunk of flesh, but far from killing the beast. The werewolf raked at Grot's eyes, and in the moment Grot raised his arm to protect them, it pounced and sank it's teeth deep into Grot's shoulder. Grot roared, and pulled a knife from his boot, plunging it into the werewolf's neck. The foul creature released it's hold on Grot, and fell back, clutching at the knife still embedded in it's throat. Grot took the opportunity to charge once more and, ignoring the agony in his arm, swung his greatsword at the thing's neck, slicing it's head off. Grot then fell unconscious.
He awoke the next day, back in town. He had been dragged back with the rescued townspeople. Miraculously, the town healers said that Grot had driven the lycanthropic disease from his body, and was well on his way to full recovery. Some said it was the divine grace of Cayden Cailean himself, in honor of Grot's bravery, that saved him from both death and the werewolf's curse.
To his dismay however, he was informed that among the dead was Allestria. And so, on the dawn of his sixteenth year, Grot felt true sorrow for the first time. Grot could not bear to stay in town after that. As much as it pained him to do so, Grot left his hometown, deciding to travel the world as a bodyguard for hire.
He had always wanted to see more of the world when he was a child, and this allowed him to do so, escorting many employers across Golaria for almost six years, seeing and learning much along the way.
Recently, Grot was hired on by a Pathfinder, a half-elf named Galanon, as additional security for a journey to Absalom. Along the way, the two struck up a friendship.
When Galanon asked Grot if he had ever thought about joining the Pathfinder Society, Grot admitted he had thought of it before, but had not pursued it. From what little he knew of the Society, Grot did not like the idea of taking orders from the mysterious Decemvirate. They were too secretive for him. He prefered to be a free man, helping those he could, rather than being an agent who must follow orders over doing what his heart knew was right.
Shocked at how much Grot seemed to know about the Society, and intrigued by his passion for freedom and honesty, Galanon confided in Grot that he felt the same way about the Decemvirate.
Galanon then told Grot of the different factions within the Society, and that he himself belonged to the Andoran faction, a group dedicated to doing good and bringing freedom and democracy to all.
It took many days of conversation, but eventually Galanon swayed Grot into joining the ranks of the Pathfinder Society. And so, Grot's life as a true adventurer begins.
