Nice to see you Tarmin — the illusionist thief was an awesome multi class!!

Prismatic wall was an epic spell and my favorite use for wand charge.

After playing pathfinder casters it is hard going back to 1d4 Hps and no cantrips and one spell a day. I will share an old school story from the one liners forum.

GM Tribute wrote:

I need to throw an old school story in. In a high level campaign the fighters and clerics had moved around a wall to engage a mess of demons. As the wizard, I cast a spell, glassee, the turned it into one-way glass and proceeded to target the demons and devils with magic. For protection, I never went anywhere without my friend, the thief, so I asked him to hide in the shadows near me for protection.

One incredibly powerful demon is tired of all the nasty magic laying waste to his buddies that he can't see, and teleports to the other side of the wall with his four arms full of nasty swords to teach my wizard a lesson. Of course the prepared thief is able to jump out and get in a backstab with his trusty magic longsword and dagger, and hit with both.

The longsword rolls like 70+ damage because the thief did quintuple damage. And our DM has had not had much to cheer about because we were mopping up the final battle, and he wanted to make it exciting. After checking the creature's stats, he starts jumping up and down, "He has 5 hp left!!" He starts planning on what nasty things the demon is going to do to my poor wizard.

Rich, the thief player, turns to us quietly and says, "When should I ask to roll for the dagger? I don't want to ruin his moment."

And, as for a rolling system, I was hoping to have a classic monk or paladin. It seems only fair the system require me to do my best to satisfy the tough entry requirments for example put the best roll in charisma if no 17 is available and convert to 17,

And, I echo the gold and glory suggestion. DM needs to like the system!!

In my Keep on the Bordarlands campaign I tried to speed things along as much as possible and avoid what i refer to as doors, mandatory stops in the action that require everyone to post that are not exciting. I linked as much of the reference materials in the main thread as possible to make it move.

I think we tried a Hommlett campaign as players together that seemed to be progressing well. I think I used this guy. Our group chemistry was pretty good and I learned how awesome old school rangers were.

Anyway, here is a link to what was my attempt to push things along at max speed for Keep on the Borderlands.

Gnobby stays away. He tries to find a way around that is warm.

Gnobby returns from a quick sneak ahead.

"I saw Curious carvings that seemed to represent a stirring tempest covering the walls of a ten-foot-wide passage. At ten-foot intervals, small alcoves flanked the passage, and each alcove contained an androgynous humanoid figure with cupped hands. The figures stand roughly seven feet tall. A faint wind seems to play within the passage, but it's difficult to tell where it's coming from."

He adds.
"Let's move the stone slab so we can all stay together."

"Yes, let's do that. But I will pop through and scout a bit."

Gnobby ties a rope to his waist and goes on a bit, giving the other end to Art.

Gnobby keeps his place, holding his two weapons in a loose grip.

He prepares to pounce when he can strike from a favorable position.

No move, waiting to pounce--hoping for a backstab

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

Gnobby moves along and his eyes get big, but he says nothing.

Put together a retro AD&D campaign and I'm in.

I would think the A slavers series (or classic Hommlett series) could run into the G series if someone had them. Not it as DM!!

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

Gnobby follows behind the leader. It seemed a nice place to explore.

"Young man, let me know if you need any help up front."

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

"I guess we are going noisy and strong over quiet and sneaky. I can work from the middle."

Gnobby pulls out a longsword and dagger.

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

Gnobby stretches the kinks from many hours waiting, and then adds:
"Yep, we might as well go on our own. It can't hurt to take a peek. We can use this as a base of operations."

Gnobby turns and begins to head outside.
"Besides peachfuzz, is anyone else coming?"

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

Then, with a shrug, the gnome moves from his hiding spot and joins the group.

He moves in quietly, gives everyone a nod and speaks with a quiet voice:
"Gnobnac Fullmeasure, I go by Gnobby. Who is running this show?"

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

Gnobby waits, he wants to be the last one in.

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

Gnobby moved, or rather slinked, through the cover and shadows afforded by the predawn to get into a position to observe the surroundings, and the building where the meeting was supposed to take place.

Not a trusting one, Gnobby always got to any suspect meeting early to scout out the approaches and watch everyone approach. Hidden in his blind, he watched the humans approach.

Once again, it appeared Gnobby was involved in another dispute over property. Yes, the miners seemed quite offended when Gnobby had found some of their missing gems. Always looking for a convenient scapegoat, and yes, lockpicks are common tools. You never know when you need to help someone repair a hooded lantern.

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

Gnobby was created to be on a work release program to help the village of hommlett.

Maybe he can be earning his freedom to help the mining town after a property mixup.

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

I will put Gnobby back to 1/1.

Thanks for the invite.

3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 1) = 123d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 4) = 113d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2) = 123d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 5) = 153d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 1) = 63d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 2) = 10

Not thrilled with stats, but if Spazmodeus is making a character after his rolls, I may have to take the challenge.

Doesn't even qualify for illusionist by 2E rules. But running around with 4hp as a mage would be a thrill ride!!

Count me in for AD&D -- this gnome tried to go through the village of hommlett when the game fell apart. I am sure you could message some of the crew and see if they were around after following this alias a bit.

For your information I ran the following old school modules adapted to Pathfinder:
I ran N1 adapted to Pathfinder and the group finished the module and killed the BBEG.
I am currently running a group through B2 Keep on the Borderlands that happens to be adjacent to Rahasia (B7). The group is near the end of B7 at level 3. The party often grumbles that the challenges are hard (having met Gary and Tracy -- that it is how they intended them to be).
I also ran the fabled Forgotten City, but the party insisted on resting while being scryed by a magic - user, and found that ended badly (TPK).
I ran the Karameikos open ended campaign with the B modules chained together like an AP and the posting dried up and the game died due to lack of interest.

My wisdom is that you want to be clear we are going after a retro feel. All hopes for Wealth by Level, no death traps, and the idea that every encounter can be defeated because they all must be CR appropriate and we don't have to run should be checked at the door. My personal favorite: I can take damage because it is just charges off one of our many CLWs (almost forgot about that one). Just my 2cp.

I miss eating pies with my buddies and stealing from ill tempered shop keepers. If anyone wants to run an adventure for Gnobby, let me know.

Gnobby also misses his paladin friend. He had a holy symbol and everything and offered him some credibility.
