"Aha so this is where the finger came from and the lantern, yet the arrow indicates the orange lantern. Any ideas? Should we light the orange one?"

Human Monk 1 HP:2/4 AC:8 [11] Save: 15

"Hmmm, " Koross mutters, "Look the sarcophagus is raised, on that pillar. Perhaps, the sarcophagus is the 'arrow', and we can turn it to the other colors as well...."

Poke

Looks back to the others...

"Can someone check this thing out? The only traps and things I have experience with are bear traps and other means of catching animals, and that is mostly avoiding them, while I am cutting wood."

Artemis gives it a closer look hoping to tell if maybe the thing rotates as Koross has suggested....

@Koross
"Let's not force it, yet."

Human Druid/1

Than clears his mind and thinks to himself. I wonder what I know about this?

A simple push or examination provides no information about the platform.

Are you putting your shoulder into it for a heavy push?

Male Human Fighter / 1 [HP:4/8] [S-Throws: 15] [+Hit: +2 / +Dmg: +2] [Parry: -1] [O-D1-4] [Dex +1 = AC:5/14] [Weight:85/105]

Erwin approaches the sacrophagus and looks at it as he thinks "Should I try to push it? If I use my shoulders, should be okey as long as I dont stress my hand"

Artemis looks concerned
"You lost some blood back there and if it is trapped you might end up far worse off."

"I think that either Gnobby or Koross, or both should check it for traps first."

DM will you roll for the two search for traps, I dropped a hint into the OOC thread and now in here?

Human Monk 1 HP:2/4 AC:8 [11] Save: 15

Koross holds his hand up to forstall the others, "They taught me somewhat about such things at the Monestary..."

He begins a careful examination of the sarcophagus...

Delicate Tasks:15%: 1d100 ⇒ 54

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

Gnobby looks. detect traps: 1d100 ⇒ 16

Human Druid/1

Than looks over the area as well.

Detect anything 1d100 ⇒ 13

Gnobby:

It will indeed rotate, but after some careful examination you realize the top can be removed. It takes a bit of time but you discover that there is indeed a hidden magical rune that traps the lid.

Let's assume that Gnobby informs the whole group about what he found and move forward from there since it has been sitting the entire weekend. Erwin is away these week so we are already a man down.

"So can we avoid the trap and open the lid?"

If gnobby says yes we will open it and see what's inside...

Human Monk 1 HP:2/4 AC:8 [11] Save: 15

Koross watches Gnobby examine the sarcophagus, trying to glean some idea of his process .

When the gnome finally straightens and explains that Koross' intuition had been correct but that a magical trap threatened further exploration, he nods at Artemis' observation, "Indeed, if it can be circumvated, the mechanism becomes available to us."

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

Dc trip, sorry for the lack of posting - now finding the rune is the easy part, avoiding problems the hard part.

"Yes, this lid comes off. Let us see if I can do this without any mishaps."

any disable: 1d100 ⇒ 94

Gnobby tries to work his skills against the rune, but is confident that he succeed in nothing. Stronger magic or another attempt after the group has rested are the only avenues to trying to disable the rune. However the rune is only at associated with opening the lid, not rotating the "arrow."

"A valiant effort, perhaps we should look at a defensible place to camp."

Human Monk 1 HP:2/4 AC:8 [11] Save: 15

Koross nods at Artemis' wise suggestion, "Indeed, I myself have a wound that some rest will benefit... one of these alcoves perhaps..."

Artemis was still staring at the trap mechanism and had studied the approaches that both Koross and Gnobby had taken, in case one day he himself faced such a task or had the time to pick up such an ability...

In a way it reminded him of judging the trees and knowing which tree had the proper timber in it before the first cut was made. It seemed to him to be similar, seeing the way the outside was and knowing the insides.

"Agreed, and Erwin gets a full rest no watch over night. We can watch two by two and get sleep."
Thinking that we can pair up and role-play through the watch time together ; )

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

"Let's tell scary stories first."

Gnobby is happy to make camp.

Human Druid/1

I will help with whatever needs to be done my friends. Than offers to the group.

"I had heard that sleep is important for recovering from wounds and also important for spell users, that I guess should dictate what we get comfortable with."

@Erwin
"Are you feeling tired?" Maybe he already went to sleep ; )

@ Gnobby
"I do not know any tales, but would like to hear them."

@Thantor
"Can you check Erwin he seems very pale and tired."

I assume based on the thread that camping is taking place. Given the lack of healing in the party at this level I am going to adjust the healing rule of 1 HP from a full day to an eight hour uninterrupted rest. 1 HP restored... If you want to do a bit of Role-Playing now then feel free... You probably want to wait to fiddle with the Sarcophagus until after resting but I will include some information about it here. I'll keep an eye on the thread if RP isn't happening we can move it to spoilers and move forward with the 8 hours.

The arrow platform can be turned toward any of the seven tunnels. Of the seven tunnels two of them appear to be missing their lanterns (Indigo and Red). The only lantern that appears to be lite is the green one. Starting from the Orange lantern which the arrow is currently pointing at the platform can be turned clockwise to Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violent, back towards the stairwell, and finally around to Red before it could be returned to Orange.

Just a link to a google sheet to give you an idea about the lay out.

Sarcophagus Room

Human Druid/1

Than gets to check on his patient. He moves his eyes over the wounds. [b] How are you feeling ?[/ooc] Than asks. He moves his hands in a small pouch that contains mundane herbs that may help with infection .

"Ho is that birch bark tea, Thantor?"

Human Monk 1 HP:2/4 AC:8 [11] Save: 15

Koross kneels at the edge of the light of the fire, remembering seeing a older initiate close a wound on his arm through the discipline of his mind.

Clearning his thoughts, Koross allowed his breathing to calm and his thoughts to drift inward, his muscles relaxing....

After several minutes he realized that he did not have the mastery of his own mind and body necessary to duplicate what he had seen.

Resigning himself to the natural healing of his body, he stood and returned to the light of the fire, helping to prepare the basic meal they all shared.

Human Druid/1

As Than pulls out the tea from his old pouch. Why yes it is. It grows in the grove where I used to live. This leaf is said to mystic healing. The story goes a wood nymph found a young knight once and fell in love. The Knight blinded, could not see the person who was helping him. And that's all I know of the story my teacher got mad me for falling a sleep in plant training. The tea is helpful and very calming. Than hands the tea & his infuser over to the monk. He then sits down and yet keeping his sickle out.

Male Human Fighter / 1 [HP:4/8] [S-Throws: 15] [+Hit: +2 / +Dmg: +2] [Parry: -1] [O-D1-4] [Dex +1 = AC:5/14] [Weight:85/105]

Finally back from holidays :)

"Ah, thanks for the help. I do feel much better now" Erwin comments as he slowly moves his hand a bit more and stretches it "Well, it seems like it will work although with not so much efficience for a while as before. Anyway, what should be our next plan? Seems like we have to light up one of those candles or turn this platform or at least thats how I understand it" Erwin speaks as his healthy hand scratches his head

"Well that is the long and the short of it, but we have no idea if it must be turned in a certain order or back and forth to different colors, I find the color scheme interesting but have not yet grasped what the solution might be."

Artemis runs a whetstone along the edge of one of his hand axes.....

"A night of rest agrees with you Erwin."

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

Gnobby huddled and whimpered when he slept. Bad dreams seemed to follow him. As they awoke:

"Ready to go. Let's find some loot!!"

Human Druid/1

Than feeling rested after his sleeps ayes I agree with the Gnome

"I guess we need to go ahead and either push or pull this sarcophagus thing one way or another and see what if anything happens."

"But first the lamp in the hallway continues to burn I am going to find out how that is the case, when no other light is here."

Re-read the descriptions DM posted and the light is out of place...

"Be ready in case it suddenly becomes darker."

Human Druid/1

Than looks over at Artemis I will go with you. he says as he adjust his robes and pack. He pulls out his sickle and moves next Artemis.

The green lantern seems to host a torch that burns continuously without destroying the torch.

"Thantor, is this druid's magic?"

Pulls the torch out of the lantern....

"Should we try placing this in the other lanterns, perhaps the colored light will reveal more to us."

Looks at the weird flame again....
"This will save our oil supplies!"

Human Druid/1

Than checks the torch I agree lets take this with us.

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

Gnobby looks around for any wood that can be used as improvised torches.

There isn't much wood debris in the cairn, not that would be useful, but you might be able to find some outside of the Cairn in the wilderness around it. Thantor can't determine anything about the torch mundanely... educated guess is... it LOOKS magical since it burns without a fuel source. And lastly when it comes down to rotating the Sarcophagus it just requires a bit of pushing, but otherwise just pick a color and rotate it in your post for whoever does it.

Atremis tries the torch in other lanterns hoping that maybe the changing colors will reveal something that was hidden Assuming by DM post that nothing appears in the changes to lighting...

"I guess now it is just a matter of pushing."

Artemis gets on the side and decides to push the thing over one lantern clockwise to the current location.

"Let's not do too much now."

Male Human Fighter / 1 [HP:4/8] [S-Throws: 15] [+Hit: +2 / +Dmg: +2] [Parry: -1] [O-D1-4] [Dex +1 = AC:5/14] [Weight:85/105]

Looking curiously at the ongoing activities Erwin slowly approaches Artemis as he begins to push the Sarcophagus "Oh, I do wonder what will happen now?" while clearly holding his hurt hand on his left side comfortably but with a hint of pain

Human Monk 1 HP:2/4 AC:8 [11] Save: 15

Koross , more stoic about his injury, comes up beside Erwin and observes the surrounding area for evidence of the machine's purpose.

Erwin...you should update your status line :)

A yellow lantern hangs from the chain at the end of this tunnel. When the arrow platform at the center of the chamber points at this tunnel, a great rumbling from below the chamber can be heard.

Human Druid/1

Than readies his blade and looks ahead.

Artemis remembers the collapsed passage.....

"Anyone think that these passageways are rigged to collapse, that one was where the wolves were, but it seemed natural at the time. I guess that rumbling has made me wonder which way the tree is going to fall."

"Maybe we should look around before we turn this any more."

Artemis does a quick check around the tunnels to see if anything has changed.....

A moment passes as Artemis moves to leave the room to check upon the tunnels outside when a circular stone at the end of the yellow lantern tunnel rises eight feet into the air, pushed up by a 5-foot-diameter metal cylinder that seems to have arisen from the ground itself. Seconds after it comes to a rest, two thin doors slide into the sides of the cylinder, revealing a small empty chamber that could fit a single person.

Human Monk 1 HP:2/4 AC:8 [11] Save: 15

Koross cocks his head as the sound emanates from below his feet.

He looks up to see Artemis scurry around, then notices the rising column.

Walking over to the opened cylinder, he gives it a Tao with the blade if his polearm, calling to the others "Look here. The machine has produced.... something"

-Posted with Wayfinder

"Is it a casket or a tube that goes down to a lower level?"

peeks inside the tube.....

Gnome (hp=5/5) AC=6 THAC0=20 Illusionist/Thief 1/1 xp 0/0

"Behind you or in front of you big people. Just don't want to be in front and close to noise."
