![]() I'm all for Old Guy GM rolling initiatives and perception checks - I'm in other PbP's where the DM's do this, and it does speed things along. Gimble shares a concerned look with Torillan and Rogar, and then turns to Ameiko. "Are you sure you don't want at least one of us to stay here with you, or help you get to Father Zantus?" he asks her. Seeing the determined look on Ameiko's face, he relents. "Alright, we'll go. But we'll be back as quickly as we can," he adds before turning to hurry after his companions. ![]()
![]() Torillan Ellandilas wrote: Sheathing his sword, he back-tracks to Gimble, kneeling beside Ameiko's battered body. Looking her over, he turns to the gnome. "Is she alright?" he asks. "I don't know, I'm not much of a healer!" Gimble replies raspily as he continues to administer first aid. "I hope I'm doing this right, but she looks like she's in pretty bad shape. Rogar better get here soon!" BTW, I will be leaving for a week-long vacation tomorrow (July 10). The place where we're staying supposedly has internet access, but we'll find out for sure tomorrow. So if you don't hear from me for a week, please feel free to run Gimble. Thanks! ![]()
![]() "AMEIKO'S HERE!" Gimble yells as loudly as his ravaged throat will allow as he rushes to the innkeeper's bloody form. Worried that his companions won't hear, Gimble draws on his innate gnomish magic to cause a loud alarm-like sound to emanate from the doorway. Mentally activate Ghost Sound spell-like ability to generate alarm - noise volume equivalent to as much noise as eight normal humans shouting. Gimble then offers a silent prayer to Desna and attempts to administer first aid to prevent Ameiko from dying. Heal Check (untrained): 1d20 ⇒ 16 ![]()
![]() Just to re-post. Gimble Boddynock wrote:

![]() Old Guy GM wrote: There are two doors in this hall as well, 10' down from you and on either side of the hall. The aforementioned side passage is twenty feet down, at the end. Gimble pulls out a dagger and cuts the tripwire. Then he staggers a few steps down the hall and listens at the doorway to the right. Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 ![]()
![]() Gimble is ticked off at the goblins for wounding him (and at goblins in general for ruining his parchments during the festival), so he will coup de grace the goblins he knocked unconscious. "Did anyone see where that hooded archer went?" Gimble asks as he rises from his grim task. "I'll bet he could lead us to Ameiko." Note to self: Used Blinding Ray 2 times so far today. ![]()
![]() Round 7 Action, Revised: Gandel notes the hooded figure as Creed's arrow strikes, and sees the figure retreat into the shadows. The gnome keeps a wary eye out for the hooded figure as he delivers a coup de grace on one of the goblins knocked unconscious by his color spray. Coup de Grace: Automatically hit and score a critical hit. Damage 2d3 - 2 ⇒ (3, 1) - 2 = 2. (Well, that seems pretty ineffective!) If the goblin survives the damage, it must make a Fort save DC 10 + the damage dealt or die (so, DC 12). So the lesson learned from this little excercise is that a coup de grace with a Small dagger is not really worth doing! Looking at the rules for coup de grace, I now realize that I could have done it using a crossbow, but I posted upthread that Gimble was drawing his dagger for this action. Oh well, lesson learned!

![]() Round 7 Action:
Spoiler: Blinding Ray: A shimmering ray (ranged touch attack) within 30 feet that causes the target to be Blinded for 1 round. Creatures with more Hit Dice than Gimble's wizard level (2) are Dazzled for 1 round instead.
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 ![]()
![]() Perception Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 Gimble's expression becomes grim as he surveys the goblins knocked unconscious by his spell. "These goblins are getting totally out of hand..." he muses to himself as he draws a dagger and steps toward the unconscious goblins. Round 6 Action: Gimble takes a 5 ft step to square Z18 and bends down in preparation to coup de grace the unconscious goblin at AA 19. Since coup de grace requires a full round action, Gimble will not be able to actually deliver the coup de grace until Round 7. ![]()
![]() Gimble steps back a step, reaching into his spell component pouch to retrieve a packet of red, yellow, and blue powder. "Iiluqinnge!" he shouts as he tosses the powder toward the goblins with a mystical flourish. A vivid cone of clashing colors springs forth from his outstretched hand, washing over three of the goblins. Spoiler: Gimble steps back 5 feet to square Y18 and casts color spray. From square Y18, the spell's 15' cone will encompass the three goblins located in squares AA17, AA18, and AA19. Will DC 17 to negate; if the goblins fail the save and have 2 HD or less, they will be knocked unconscious, blinded, and stunned for 2d4 rounds, then blinded and stunned for 1d4 rounds, and then stunned for 1 round.
Oh, by the way, Gimble still has mage armor active, so his AC is 17. ![]()
![]() Depending on the results of the Perception check, and if Sebastian and/or Yelena do not kill the remaining goblin, Gimble will fire a Blinding Ray at the remaining goblin. If it hits, the goblin will be blinded for 1 round unless it has more Hit Dice than Gimble's wizard level, in which case it will be dazzled for 1 round instead.
HOWEVER, if the Perception check reveals a greater threat, Gimble will turn his attention to that instead of the remaining goblin. ![]()
![]() Round Three Actions: Gimble steps up behind Torillan (to square Z18) and fires a Blinding Ray at one of the new goblins (square T18). A shimmering ray (ranged touch attack) within 30 feet that causes creatures to be blinded for 1 round. Creatures with more Hit Dice than Gimble's wizard level are dazzled for 1 round instead.
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 (includes +1 bonus for Hatred) ![]()
![]() I think everyone else has posted. I think Khalad is the only one who has moved through or into a glassy area, and he posted his Acrobatics check (plus his attack will take the -2 penalty for poorly lit conditions). Gimble, Torillan, and Rogar all have either low-light vision or darkvision, and Yelena's spell doesn't require a to-hit roll. ![]()
![]() Gimble's Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 Surprise Round: Gimble retrieves a bit of fleece from his component pouch. "Gwiilb-iimarii," he intones while making a mystical gesture. Within the furnace area, the flames from the furnaces seem to coalesce into a huge, vaguely draconic shape which looms threateningly above the scurrying goblins, swiping at the puny creatures with its flaming claws. Gimble casts Silent Image to further distract and sow chaos among the goblins: Will Save DC 17 to disbelieve if interacted with. The illusion is a visual figment that cannot extend beyond six 10-ft cubes. Duration = Concentration plus 1 round (the spell is extended by 1 round after concentration ends due to the Illusion school power of Extended Illusion). ![]()
![]() Gimble retrieves a piece of cured leather from his spell component pouch. ”Curu-rynii,” he intones as he makes a mystical gesture. Just for an instant, the air around his body wavers, like heat shimmers on a summer’s day. Cast mage armor – Gimble now has AC 17 for the next hour. After casting his spells, Gimble follows the others into the depths of the Glassworks. ![]()

For Old Guy GM Spoiler:
Gimble's eyes grow as large as saucers as he listens in fascination to Brodert Quink's stories. The gnome wizard spends much of his time for the two days visiting with Quink to learn more about ancient Thassilon, and spends several hours sketching pictures of the Old Light as it might have been according to Quink's descriptions. Old Guy GM wrote: 'Ameiko's gone missing.' "Missing?" Gimble asks as he peers around the common room, even glancing under several tables. "How could she lose herself?" he asks with fey logic. "Surely she couldn't have left town, what with the routes in and out being heavily guarded and all. Did she leave a note saying where she was going?" ![]()
![]() As stated previously, here's what Gimble plans to do for the next couple of weeks:
Gimble Boddynock wrote: For the next couple of weeks, Gimble will take in the sights and try to meet some of the interesting people of Sandpoint (talk to Brodert Quink to learn more about the regional history, visit the Old Light, take in the show at the Sandpoint Theater, etc.). If nothing major happens in the next four days, Gimble will take the fifth day to scribe a scroll of Shield (Gimble needs four days' worth of stipend (12 gp) to have enough money to buy the materials to scribe the scroll). After he collects another five days' worth of stipend (15 gp), he will purchase a leather-bound journal.

![]() Yelena Shukhov wrote: "Every traveler coming in or out needs to be questioned and reasonably searched, with suspicious activity relayed to the Sheriff and approved before they are allowed to enter or leave." "So with the Sheriff out of town for the next two weeks, does that mean that suspicious travelers should be reported to US before they are allowed to enter?" Gimble asks querulously. ![]() Gimble gets very excited when introduced to Shalelu. "Shalelu Andosana!? I've heard A LOT about you. Boy, are we lucky you showed up today!" The excited young gnome whips out a piece of parchment and hastily sketches a picture of Shalelu, then begins taking notes as Yelena fires off questions, waiting to note down Shalelu's responses. ![]()
![]() Irritated by Foxglove’s apparent obliviousness to his surreptitious shenanigans, Gimble turns to Rogar, Khalad, and Torillan and asks with a fey-like pique, “So, fellas! How’s about a greasy pork sandwich served in a dirty ashtray?” If Gandel can’t get a rise out of Foxglove the subtle way, he’ll see if he can disrupt the noble’s dinner in a more visceral way by trying to get the obviously-distressed Warriors Three to throw up all over the place. Ten million XP if you recognize the movie reference! ![]()
![]() Old Guy GM wrote: 1. Is the pace ok? I am generally trying to wait at certain junctures for everyone to chime in, but at other times I am moving forward without posts from everyone. Make sure to tell me if you are feeling left out. The pace is good. It's progressing much quicker than some other PbP's I'm in! Old Guy GM wrote: 2. Combat/maps working ok? Working great. Love the maps! Old Guy GM wrote:
*Facepalm* You are right! I guess we've all been so caught up in the moment that we forgot to check for treasure. Actually, I think that's a good sign that we're hooked on the action! ![]()
![]() Gimble barely touches his food, distractedly picking at it with his fork. He watches Foxglove intently, a look of confused consternation passing over his face as he studies the human's behavior. for Old Guy GM: Gimble will let things progress for a few more minutes, and then do the barking/howling dog bit with his ghost sound spell-like ability, which is activated mentally. He will be watching very intently for any reaction from Foxglove - this guy is beginning to creep him out! ![]()
![]() Yelena Shukhov wrote: ”What brings you to the Hinterlands?” ”Looking for another dog to get slaughtered?” Gimble asks quietly under his breath. The normally verbose gnome sits uncharacteristically quietly at a corner of the table, as far as he can possibly get from Lord Foxglove (although no more than 10 feet away, Old Guy GM please see spoiler below). for Old Guy GM’s eyes: Gimble strongly disapproves of the way Foxglove totally ignored the sacrifice that the dog made defending the noble from the goblins during the raid. In retaliation, the gnome wizard will use his spell-like ability of prestidigitation throughout the dinner to cause Foxglove’s food to taste like ashes and his drinks to taste like blood. Since a spell-like ability has no verbal, somatic, or material component, and is activated mentally, there should be no indication that Gimble is the one causing the effects. The range for prestidigitation is 10 feet, and it allows you to perform simple magical effects for 1 hour.
After several minutes, if Foxglove starts to appear distraught wondering what is wrong with the meal, Gimble will use his spell-like ability of ghost sound to create the haunting sound of a dog barking in the distance for a few seconds, with the barking trailing away into a mournful, pained howl. ![]()
![]() Gimble looks quizzically at Jargie, the fish tank, Rogar, Khalad, Torillan, and back at the fish tank. Then he glances toward Yelena sitting at the back of the tavern. ”Um, I think I’ll have what she’s having,” the worried-looking gnome says slowly. Then his expression brightens as he adds, ”Oh, by the way, do you happen to still have any of that lobster chowder that you were serving at the festival?” ![]()
![]() Gimble thanks Chask Haladan for letting the scholarly gnome spend the day perusing various texts, then heads out to meet his companions at the Hagfish. When he runs into the others at the Hagfish, the gnome spouts excitedly, "Did you know that there are five tribes of goblins living within the general environs of Sandpoint? But they've never worked together before! So what would lead these various tribes to work together now, and steal Father Tobyn's remains?" The excited young gnome looks thoughtful for an instant, and then pulls out a parchment and quill to write down the question. "Oh, but there's someone who might be able to shed some light on our mystery!" Gimble adds. "There's a ranger named Shalelu Andosana who supposedly knows A LOT about the local goblin tribes. The only problem is no one knows when or where she'll show up!" "By the way, do any of you local folks know a Brodert Quink?"
