My favorite character is a gray dwarf summoner and his mountain rock monster who has large khyber shards sticking out his back & corrosive acid breath. In eberron Khyber shards are pieces from the body of the Black Dragon God of the Underworld.Dwarves have a great bond with mountains & the underworld so I gave him a sort of elemental, ancient beast guardian of the gray dwarves. I used the miniature Mulg the Ancient from Hordes & a reaper blood gnome priest for the dwarf just added a beard. They look like a Mad Max Master/Blaster
Ok just the other night I posted on "summoners are to powerful" and tried to back up the halfway decent class it is. Yes I like & enjoy it but here me out it is limited to melee & depends on your build type. It sounds like you as a DM were unprepared, it happens next game plan out for the new edition in your group try & balance your NPC's to your group. I dont think you should quit. I believe the posts of people saying "here we go again" is because there is like SOOO many posts on Summoner good,Summoner bad no pun intended. I have a fighter in the group who does more damage & hits better so its how you build it. Good Luck and dont be to sensitive.
I like the title of this post. I think the game is great the way it is, of course anything can be improved. I really dont like fourth edition plays out more like a miniature game(just my opinion)but the one good thing they did was add House Rules which almost every gamer does. So if you think the game needs improvement House Rule it! I will say I am so tired of people arguing rules, ect. on the posts and straying away from the original posts. So happy gaming folks and yes I like the game.
Ive have in the past had this same problem. What weve done as a gaming group have is allowed the magebred template & horrid template for animal companions, and also allowed animals outside the norm, such as my goblins crocdile I used in my Eberron Sharn city campaign. My last Dwarf character had a stormlizard not to shabby.
I play 2 different summoners in 2 different campaigns, the parties I play in never seem to replace the fighter or barbarian with my eidolon hes just an added bonus to the party and makes a good combatant. I do really like the customizing for my summoned pet although I would like to see more stuff added to the eidolon class in future. I dont feel its to powerful at all afterall the summoner is still vulnerable and has to stay in range. If he is knocked out or sleeping he cant use the eidolon.I myself have not yet mastered the summoner class and would be very opened minded on tips to improve. So far everyone has pointed out some good stuff to help me build a better eidolon. This is a good class but could use some more work ,maybe in future book. Long live Pokemon/Digimon

Half aquan, is a good idea, water world isnt half bad either. I run an eberron campaign with our crew as merc/pirates for hire on a ship that would even work. Others have mentioned mounts some D&D creatures can fly and go in swim maybe an idea or just give the mount both capabilities, use the imagination, ask the party if rules seem fair
I think a Merfolk campaign is a cool idea or just having one with the party, I've always wanted to play a sea elf ranger & have a stingray or shark as companion. I would say they may be weaker on land but they could still be tougher than a regular character with some speed penalty.House rule it as you see fit I always say. look at Namor he is tough on land or water.
You can always choose a large dog like a mastiff like the one in Harry Potter. Remember this is fantasy many creatures could be domesticated in D&D & live in an urban setting. In Eberron I play a urban ranger whos a goblin and explores sewers & cogs under Sharn my companion is a crocodile.Check with your DM, but I dont see why you cant put a collar on a wolf and maybe dye his fur using diguise skill.
If you want to change or add to a game sure why not. Anyone of us can change a rule or some power of sort afterall its just a game. If you want to post on rules for suggestions sure why not or new ideas to change your game thats great. But I do think the general engine this system has is a good one & that is why it has survived so long. I am a very open minded gamer and that is why my games are not bogged down. I have played 4th edition & did not care for it(please do not respond my opinion of 4th ed thanks) The system played out like a little bit of tabletop meets warcraft & a card game. It does have its good stuff, all players can cast & each character class is somewhat equal to each other (again somewhat) Im getting away from the subject I do think Pathfinder has turned out great & spellcasters have gained some ground. Again feel free to make your own changes when needed, Nuff Said!
In response to you trying to convert your eidelon to have the right powers like pokemon, I suggest talk over something with the GM/DM. If your DM is fairy open minded you both can find an ability for taht specific attack or make one up. I really do love some of the early material for the summoner but unfortunely have not recieved my Advanced Players Guide from Amazon via snail mail. I can really see the Digimon/Pokemon/bakugan likeness & like it. I already have my figure picked out the Pathfinder mini Iconic Eldritch Knight(as Summoner)& the Privateer Press Pyre Troll as my eidelon.
It was mentioned by Privateer Press that some time in 2011 Iron Kingdoms may come back as RPG but unsure. I wonder if Pathfinder may possibly be interested in the campaign setting considering its so vast & Privateer Press basically keeps it on the back burner. There is a large interest from fans, via Iron Kingdom Forum in the game being completed ,many use Pathfinder material to expand there games. Many of the character classes have not been completed such as the Warlock, fans are dying for a general description. With a Universe of Warjacks,Warbeasts,& Steampunk technology this game would be AWESOME to add to the existing universe at Pathfinder. Well any out there interested??????
How bout this I played a Goblin Urban Ranger who had a crocdile as companion, and delved the sewers, cogs & lower city of Eberrons city Sharn. I liked it so much I painted a goblin mini, & Reaper dire croc mini(albino white. Of course the rest of the party didnt trust me but the croc kept them at arms length, lol
OK Illegal immagrants dont pay taxes hence the word illegal! Our economy is already having trouble coping with everything before the fall of the housing market, Illegal immagrants work off the books, hence they are not paying back into the system that supports them, there medical & schooling for there children is covered by OUR TAX PAYING PEOPLE, I dont have a problem with anyone who pays there taxes, they can stay if they pay the taxes or theyre back owed taxes,But they need to go through the proper legal channels to be a immagrant(my parents did after WWII & they were broke) if they dont have the money SEND EM BACK. IF I DONT PAY MY TAXES THE GOVERNMENT WOULD PUT ME IN JAIL. SEE Im for equal opportunity as long as its fair. |
