Background

Gayle is a long-time servant of the church of Torag. An orphan found in the woods by a dwarf ranger in Taldan, he was dropped of on the doorstep of a Temple of Torag as the ranger carried on his way. Gayle was trained and schooled in the church an eventually employed as a blacksmith, albeit not a very good one. His formative years were spend scribing and forging and he carried this simple life on, dedicated to the church, but content. He married a baker named Becca, had a couple children, Trauna and Jamison, and lived the villager's life for a couple decades before tragedy struck.

A wayward succubus, disguised as a nun, seduced a neighbor and coerced him to slowly subvert the happy little hamlet, sowing discontent and increasing chaos in their town. Eventually crime escalated and a wholesale riot started when the veil was lifted from over everyone's eyes. Multiple people had been seduced or coerced and the town turned into a bloodbath with the demon leading her small cabal of protectors against their former friends and family. Powerless to help, Gayle hid in the church with his family. The demon found them, locked them in, and burned the church around them. Gayle's hearty conditioning from years in the forge and his strange origin enabled him to survive the ordeal, but barely. His family, however, did not.

Overcome with anguish, Gayle swore an Oath against the demons and vowed vengeance for what had happened to family, dedicating his life to continued service to his God and picked up his hammer, heading north to take the fight straight to the fiends.

Personality

Gayle is a salt-and-pepper-haired man approaching fifty, mild-mannered but filled with a quiet rage from the tragedy that still strikes a raw nerve with him.

Gayle is an uneducated man ... his knowledge resting in forging and the basic politics of his tiny, now destroyed village. He's able to read, but hasn't done much of it, and makes some adbsurd assumptions about things that only a hayseed villager would. However, he has a winning way about him, and his ignorance can be charming for some.
