About Garmack ScareyeGarmack Scareye
Background:
Garmack's shared heritage is the result of an orc clan's raid upon a nearby human settlement. Despite her best efforts, his mother could not manage to prevent childbirth and Garmack was born as a symbol of the hated race who had caused so much pain and suffering to these people. Growing up Garmack was a pariah of human society, he was given strenuous chores to do while other children played and was fed scraps of the table like an animal. As his more bestial traits began to surface in his adolescence, the men of the village started using him as a tracking hound when they went out hunting. It was during one of these outings that Garmack was attacked by a bear leaving great gashes near his eyes and mouth. His new appearance earned him the name of Scarface in the village. Despite many years of abuse and jeering about his intelligence and his appearance, Garmack remained silent in the face of it all. He contented himself with learning what he could about survival and the forests from observing the hunters and generally doing as he was told to avoid taking a beating.
Finally, a couple years before reaching adulthood, came the turning point in Garmack's life. It was mid autumn and the hunters were out hunting to celebrate the coming of the harvest time with their favourite hound Garmack. As he was walking ahead of the group scanning the surroundings, he came upon an injured wolf. Immediately his heart went out to the poor beast and he rushed to it's side to see what aid could be given... Until one of the hunters came upon them both. Reacting with fright and disgust, the hunter pulled an arrow from his quiver and shot the wolf down in Garmack's arms. "Better off dead the lot of 'em, dangers to civilized folk those filthy beasts are" he grumbled to himself as he went to retrieve his arrow. That was the last move he ever made. All the rage, fear, spite and murderous intent that Garmack had for so long kept bottled inside of himself suddenly burst out in a single murderous roar of outrage at the hunter's contempt for life. With muscles as hard as steel built from years of arduous work, Garmack grabbed the man by the hair and tore his head from his shoulders. The next few minutes were but a rush of flailing limbs, flying arrows and bloodcurdling cries as Garmack murdered the rest of the party in righteous fury fuelled by a river of rage. His task accomplished and on the brink of death, Garmack proceeded to wander the forest in a trance following his instincts until he could walk no more and collapsed in a warm sunny glade. However such was not to be his end, for it happened that he was found by another just as himself, an old half-orc named Karj Mooneye. So it was that Karj dragged his wounded body back to the Wolftooth clan's village. After having recuperated, Karj decided to take the emotionally traumatized youth under his care. He taught him more about the wonders of nature, the art of the stalker and to control and focus his hate of the human race so that he could live in harmony with the village and the nearby humans but never really manage to break his reclusive nature. His training complete many years later, Karj released Garmack from his care to do with his life as he would. So it was that he began his residence in Wolftooth and took up the name of Scareye in homage to his old master. He lived his life in relative peace for many years, going out for excursions into the forests to continue training on his own. He returns often to the village to rest and speak with friends and acquaintances. Despite his master's encouragement to the contrary, Garmack still reserves judgement upon humans as a whole and is wary of even those who come and go freely within the village. However he only preys upon those foolish enough to wander too far into his favourite part of the forest or lack sufficient respect for nature. However, while Garmack was returning from one of his usual outings in the forests, he spotted a large company of orcs outfitted for war advancing towards his new home. Anger rose in his belly as he prepared to trade his life for many more of theirs, but then his many years training under his mentor calmed his rage and he melted back into the foliage before sneaking around and back to village to raise the alarm. Having potentially saved many lives on his first encounter with the enemy, Garmack then proceeded to put his new talents to work protecting the only true home he ever knew against the Bearclaw clan. Over the course of the war he participated in many skirmishes and prowled the woods with other members of the clan slaying any intruders they found. As word of the deaths in the forest grew, the Bearclaws began to whisper of the ranger who fought like a demon, the one they named the 'Stalker'. So it was that Garmack became one of the villages heroes and accrued a certain respect and kindness from those who previously treated him with simple indifference. His duty to his home done, Garmack returned to is usual day to day way of life proud of what he had accomplished.
