“Being only one of a maybe a handful of your own kind is difficult at the best of times in a mostly human settlement. This is not one of those times. For now I am angry in a way I have never felt before, depressed, and truly, terrifyingly, all alone.”
“Allow me to digress a moment so that you might understand how I came to feel like I do. My name is Garin; well at least that is the name I took for myself, you see. I took it at the same time I picked up this, musket.” Garin lovingly and possessively strokes what appears to you to be a combination of both a musket and waraxe.”
“I never truly knew who my parents were. Oh, I have a few guesses as to my origin into this world but of course they are only guesses. Based on the region I found myself in as a teen, the wilds of Varisia, I was forced to learn to hunt, fish, cook, and care for myself. For if I did not then surely I would have died just the same as the man who had once carried this gun. Yes you heard right, it is a gun, or more precisely an Axe Musket or so that that is what was written in the dead man’s book.”
“It was not until I was twenty five that I came to reside in Korvosa in the part of the city known as Old Korvosa. There I met Tara, one of the only other half-orc’s I had ever come to know. We laughed, we loved, and we made a home together here in Old Korvosa. Granted it wasn’t much but it was ours.”
“Tara worked security for a local jeweler while I worked as a general laborer and sometimes guard for old man Teirney at his tonic shop. It was mind numbing work but it keep us fed and sheltered so it wasn’t all bad. Besides Teirney wasn’t keen on putting things away which gave me a chance to learn some basics of alchemical work whenever he would leave the shop for a bit. That bit of knowledge has come in handy a time or two especially in learning how to better work with the musket.”
“The jeweler where Tara worked is where I bought her engagement ring from. We were to betrothed to be married sometime within the next year. Around about a month or so ago is when she was found murdered in an alley. The Korvosan Guard brought me in to identify her body as she had been horribly mutilated in the attack that claimed her life. It was then that I noticed her engagement ring was missing. I howled with rage and anguish that night at her loss and made two vows to myself that I will see fulfilled before I take my last breath in this world. One I will get Tara’s ring back and two I will find and kill her murderer.”
“It took me two weeks and help from Tara’s former employer to track down her engagement ring. It is for sale in a pawn shop with a price tag of 500 gp. I can’t afford that price yet but I will. I did learn the name of the man who sold it is Gaedren Lamm. If that is that same man who brought my fiancée’s life to and end then I hope he is ready to meet Pharasma. For I will send him to the Boneyard no matter the personal cost to me.”
