Garavaen watches Plik's display and winces, muttering, "I'm thinking the bolts be making him angry and not so much making him dead... anyone have some magic that could help?" Before anyone can respond, however, his hands finish their reloading trick and another bolt sails through the air at the dead thing.

Garavaen's hands do his reloading trick as he concentrates, keeping the line between him and his target in his mind's eye until he can bring the crossbow back in line and squeeze the trigger again.

Garavaen takes a deep breath, focusing on the bell ringer, seeing a straight line materializing between his raised hand and the center of the foul thing, equidistant from the flames licking it...and then he gently squeezes the trigger, releasing the bolt to fly that same line.

I'm assuming he's not got cover on me -- but if he does, I'll spend a grit to use Shooter's Resolve.

He concentrates for a moment, and causes four small torchlights to appear in the shadows in the fore of the ship, then wills them to move slightly, hoping to attract the crew's attention to make his climb back down to the water considerably less... stressful.

Or we send some of the new folk to bring her in as a prize." He shrugs, "I'm thinking that might be the best move, Captain. If we can't sail and fight her, we should at get the value of her hull."

He looks over then adds, "As for the devil-worshippers, I'm in agreement. Let them have a lifeboat, and wish them well. I'd even throw in a waterskin and a day's food, just to show we're not heartless. After all, if we've a reputation for showing mercy to those that surrender, then folk'll be more likely to do it... and that reduces the cost in blood we'd have to pay."

What's the range, Shathira -- trying to figure out if Garavaen would drop the boys and try to run and grapple to prevent it from escaping or just shoot it and hope that kills it.

Trying to use the cover of darkness... Sadly for you, some of us see well in starlight... and can make sure the others will you too.... Garavaen points at the figures, drawing on the power of his heritage and causing the figures to glow with a pale, flickering blue light as he raises his crossbow and begins to shout, "Awake and to arms! We've got boarders!"

We just left, we can't head back to sell the hull so soon -- especially without having enough to work as a prize crew.

It's probably also not worth ransoming the officers -- we're not well-equipped to deal with prisoners over a long time and unless we see signs of nobility or strong connections, it's not really cost-effective.

Besides, a reputation for sparing crews will lead to people being more likely to surrender rather than fight to the death

If we're doing prize, we'd need to lock up and drop off the crew who don't want to join us .. or kill them.

Not sure I like #2 with a surrendered crew
