The continent of Adaras is crumbling. Within the Imperial City of Maraz, the scheming nobles, hungry for the long-vacant throne, have now been thrown into further Chaos as Lucian Dread, a powerful, charismatic and shadowy foreigner has seized the Throne for himself and even now, dreadful whispers permeate the land of assassinations, martial law and a new sect of Inquisitorial Hunters growing within the Imperial Capitol.
On top of this, orcs and bandits savage the country side, burning, looting and slaying all in their violent path. With no Knights stationed along the borders, they run freely where they wish, taking what they desire and fearing no reprisal. What is worse, far worse than even the prospect of civil war brewing within Maraz, there have been erratic sightings of Dragons loose in the mountains, destroying outlying villages and even sacking powerful keeps that had stood since the founding of the Imperial City.
These are dark days for the citizens, both Imperial and Hedonite, of Adaras, and if heroes will not soon rise up and fight for their homeland, it may soon be lost in the coming tide of war.
Into this world, the very heroes that may one day liberate these lands from oppression, tyranny and invasion have arrived. Many are their backgrounds, some human, some not, but all with a vested interest in preserving their age-old home from the forces of destruction that threaten to overrun it.
Far from the Imperial City, from which flock multitudes of frightened Imperial Citizens, near the Southern Border of the country, lies the small trading outpost of Stagholt, a border fortress turned fortifed village since the end of the Dragon Wars. The people of Stagholt, mostly human but with some elves, dwarves and halflings intermingled, hear of only whispers of the dark tidings of their land, and while the knock of war has not yet come upon their door, many fear it yet will, and soon. As it is, Orcs have ever been a threat since the death of Ironbrow many years ago, and the mayor, a Quinton Barrous by name, has begun looking for some brave and well-meaning men and women to patrol the town's borders.
